November 8, 200718 yr It doesn't fix the desert texture issue (it wasn't meant to). But it is VERY good and I highly recommend it if you are a VFR flyer. November 8, 200718 yr Geoff, I just checked out a couple of places in SE Michigan and it looks even worse than the Nashua area. I just can't abide by this monotomic sand color applied to non-summer textures. It's everywhere! The world is much more colorful than this, as noted by the pics you showed.Don't get me wrong, I love FSX. I just can't abide by this texture coloring in the non-summer months. Hopefully Andre will be able to fix this. The two he showed below look awesome.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
November 8, 200718 yr Author Well here is a compare of the Thomsonville, Mi. shot from above (and then I am out of here for Toronto). The "sand" bothers me much less than the fact that there is not enough resemblance to reality between the sim and real shot! The trees are wrong, the stream is way too present, the runway is the wrong color, and there are houses/roads where there should not be any. I find these things more of an problem for reality than the sand. There is a whole world out there relying this way on database computer recreations of reality that never quite matches. Why I believe the future is with photo real streaming like Tileproxy-though as of now the coverage is not there for this remote area! Where it is though-it takes care not only of the sand-but everything. http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpgForum Moderatorhttp://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/180119.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/180120.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
November 8, 200718 yr Any idea how to save this file as an excel file? It's stored as a text file. If I try to cut and paste the contents into a text file, then rename it, excel says it can't open it. You might have better luck telling avsim that it's a jpg file. Then, at least it will ask to save the file instead of opening it.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
November 8, 200718 yr Hello Thomas,Simply download the text file, then change the extension to whatever version of Excel you use (for example, "xls") and that will work fine.Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
November 8, 200718 yr I installed Cloud9 Xclass for the whole world and haven't seen a sand patch since. Best landclass out there I reckon. Regards, Max (YSSY) i7-12700K | Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB 3600MHz DDR4 | Gigabyte RTX4090 24Gb | Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE DDR4 | Corsair HX1200 PSU
November 8, 200718 yr yes, but you get green trees in wintertime instead (at least in the cloud9 Landclass for Europe that I have). Not really realistic in my opinion. You can disable this "fix" but then the desert-like textures reappear.Jan
November 8, 200718 yr Hi Geof,Thanks for the pictures, but I have to say if the sand textures were more in line with those I would be happy! It's that bright yellow tinge to FSX textures which seem to look so wrong. As for the real flying, I am just over 6 hours logged spread over two Cessna 150's (C-GHWR and C-GBMD)with an hour on a 172 (C-GNKJ) thrown in for good measure!I started in the circuit last week and it wasn't too eventful. Circuits seem to suddenly need a lot more mental capacity as there are many more things to do than in the 'build up' lessons! The week before I was learning to recover from spins and spiral dives.....wow! That first spin was a real rollercoaster ride. I didn't even know where I was for a minute and my instructor had to recover. Managed to get it second time around though and got better after a few more attempts. The simulator has more than helped in my opinion. It all feels very comfortable. I will post some more stories as my training progresses!Glenn Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
November 8, 200718 yr It doesn't ask if I want to download it. It just opens up into a browser window automatically :-(I suppose I could view source and save that?As I noted, when I tried to cut and paste it into a notepad file - no go. Or, as Chevy put it, Nova.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
November 8, 200718 yr Moderator In Netscape, I simply clicked on the link and a box popped up asking if I wanted to Open or Save. I saved as using the default name with an .xls extension. Works just fine!If there's a way to use Internet Exploder, I haven't found it... :( Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
November 8, 200718 yr While what Holger wrote is true to a limit, this isn't the problem. The problem is that MS completely changed the textures themselves. The new sand texture everyone is seeing is in fact 'Shrubs and Grasses'. In previous versions this texture is a lot greener. This isn't the only change though, overall the textures have a been dried up a lot by MS. No matter how much you change the landclass it's not going to fix the problem. Not sure why MS decided to give FSX a much drier look. Maybe their contribution to global warming?Trust me on this Geofa, I've spent several hours looking into this problem and I'm working on a texture set that makes the world green again, because this bugs me the most in FSX...Holger has done the same for Vancouver+.Cheers,Christian
November 9, 200718 yr I was reading the posts and thought about you doing some magic in all this. PM about beta testing.Jos
November 9, 200718 yr Hello Thomas,Please right-click on the link:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/180208.jpgThis should work with any browser. And perhaps Dick could zip up the file and attach it that way as well - thank you, Dick.Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
November 9, 200718 yr Nope, that doesn't work in Explorer.I didn't think to try it in Firefox. That worked. Thanks Bill! And thank you for the excel file Luis!Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
