P3D v 6.1 is now available

Featured Replies

I tried MSFS, twice, and finally went back to and have stayed with P3D. It checks all the boxes and works perfectly, outdated and all. I would consider V6 once the Lear becomes available. BTW, if you think about it, read 'The Learjet Diaries' by Greg Madonna. Man, that was a serious jet back in the day and many pilots and passengers paid the price.

His charters to South America back in the day will raise the hairs on your neck. I have a far greater understanding of why this jet behaves and acts like it does. After I bought the Lear set, I submitted a ticket to Alain regarding the aircraft being out of control on takeoff. He explained a few things and after many hours a takeoff with a vs takeoff climbing at 4000fpm is the norm. A sweet bird.

I think it's just more in my head than anything.

I agree and it’s something you need to rethink because there’s nothing really wrong with v5.x. You have all your favourite aircraft and scenery with potentially more to come.

Do you apply the same logic to life in general? If your toaster is working fine but a newer but not necessarily better one becomes available do you buy something you don’t really need just to have the latest model? 😉

I am not even talking about the Concorde in MSFS. That sim has so many problems...

I’m not surprised given it was released with accepted limitations but the price reflected that. On the other hand the FS Labs Concorde is superb but only currently available for v5. The price is pretty reasonable too.

But I do miss my v5 install. To go back to it requires accepting that I am going to be on an outdated version of a sim that has lost support anyway.

Then reinstall it! Unless you had the Professional licence you never had support anyway. Forget “outdated”. It’s a version that supports all your aircraft and it’s stable. The most important criteria.

The downside is that while the environment got better (volumetric clouds, etc), now everything is pitch black in cockpits even during the day unless the sun is shining directly onto it. I HAVE given thought to installing v5 again... cause that to me, was the version I got the most enjoyment from.

That can be adjusted with Live Graphics. I didn’t like it originally but I’ve grown to prefer it and the lighting effects are excellent.

What are you waiting for? 😉

You know what... I think I just reached the solution... I am downloading both 6.1 and 5.4. I am gonna keep 6.1 and see where it goes from here, and I will install all of my aircraft into v5 and get the MAX and Concorde... I don't know what you mean by Live Graphics.

It's an option allowing you to adjust Brightness, Bloom and Saturation and see the results as you change the sliders. Don't select Auto Exposure. It's grim.

Wait until you see Concorde. 😮

Autoexposure is helpful on dark days which I have occasionally.

If exterior/interior lighting is not to you liking under those conditions, it case be adjusted in the cfg and saved. Directions are in the SDK under lighting.

Even though I run the final v4.5 release, I do have Live Graphics available via reshade.

e.g Auto Contrast, auto bloom, colour temp, luma sharpen, ambient occlusion, colour levels and various types of AA , plus plenty more to trial and all accesable and adjustable in realtime while P3D is live.

Reshade is easy to setup and keep updated, does need the user interface hardware acceleration disabled where LM placed for the following cfg setting for just this type of use.

[USERINTERFACE]
// Set UIHardwareAcceleration from True (the default) to False to enable reshade use.
UIHardwareAcceleration=False

Here's one type of effect - tiltshift for that minature look.

@BostonJeremy77, don’t forget this important setting only accessible in the cfg file.

Interesting. I haven't seen that issue, but that's likely because I never bought a single airport for P3D. I MAY get a couple once I dive into P3D again, just cause that's the sim that needs better airports the most. ALL the Orbx, but no airports on my v5 setup. 😉 Never bought one for XP either, because the default ones are great due to Scenery Gateway system. MSFS? I bought a bunch but don't have them installed anymore and it's starting to get stupid in that sim with what people are asking devs for. Somehow it's becoming a thing to have the insides of terminals modeled to great detail, and now people are looking to have passengers in them. The result is that your performance suffers because all of this useless s*** is being rendered. I don't need a passenger or scenery simulator. I just want to fly procedures and if the world looks great, that's a plus. But I could not care any less to see my house looking like it does. As long as it's believable buildings, it's good enough for me.

First, RTFM

Next, in a nutshell, everything happens very, very fast on takeoff. Coming from the A2A Bonanza that I'd been flying for a long time, this was a real eye opener. Another complaint solved was I couldn't get the aircraft to slow down at 70% power without spoilers while descending. The trick here which more experienced pilots know is you have to be right on the money at your descent waypoints, not above and still descending.

This aircraft is very sensitive to takeoff trim as well. An adjustment to that helped tremendously. I've also redone my flaps, trim button, gear button, spoiler and thrust reversers where I can operate them by feel eliminating the two second look when the aircraft can get away from you. The more I fly this aircraft, the more I like it. The work that has gone into this creation I'm still uncovering which makes me want to stick with it. I told Alain you really need to upgrade your marketing plan as I don't think that many people know about this thing (maybe they do and I don't know it). He said they were when the set hits MSFS which will be shortly. I think there's a V4 version available if you're interested.

Live Graphics is actually very useful. I got the settings tweaked for things to look much better in terms of dark cockpits, etc.. Thanks, Ray!

Well, I gave up on 5.4 for now, and will wait for 6 to stabilize and really hope that they can eventually get the right addons for it...

5.4 I had bought a 6 month Professional License that will end by the end of February so, I don't really want to buy a new one, I bought the full Private License of v6, and I will patiently wait for it to progress... Same applies to X-Plane 12...

Until then it's going to be mostly MFS 2020 again 🙂 and Airlinetools A32x

The 'trick' is to descend at idle thrust, not 70% power! No speedbrakes of course. Most jets usually descend at idle.

Hi Bernt- I've since figured this out, along with silencing the gear warning horn that starts at 70% thrust.

Your art has captured the beauty of this aircraft. A timeless design.

Mark

Ah! The gear warning. Just checked the series 30 manual and the warning shouldn't come on below 15000ft at all. Below that at ~55% N1, which is a pretty low thrust setting. Well below 50%, let alone 70%.

And thank you for your kind words of course 🙂
