If you are running a lot of others apps in parallel with MSFS then I would say the 7900X3D, otherwise stick with the 7800X3D.

The biggest leap in game/sim performance was from 5900X to 5800X3D, believe it or not. 

So I would say the 5800X3D is worth it if you're on AM4 and want a relatively cheap upgrade.

Have you ever seen the need for more than your 16Gb of VRAM w/ your 3440x1440 display?

The % difference in gaming is tiny but the desktop performance is a big % gain over the 7800x3d.  If you are just MSFS then get the 7800x3d and save a few$$ for other stuff.

I upgraded to a 7800X3D + 4090 last summer coming from an 8-9 year old rig and WOW!  Still blows my mind today - even more so I made this video which also kickstarted a mini YouTube channel for me 😉

Wow 3.5K pounds for just 45fps with Fgen, not worth the $$$$ investment in my opinion.There's definitely a need for performance improvements in the eye-candy department.

To be honest, it has maxed out sometimes, but I've not seen any negative effects because of it. No stutter or any type of lag going on when it's at 15-16GB VRAM.

With a typical complexity scenery and a light complexity aircraft it will be at 8-10GB VRAM usage.

I did some tests by going to windowed mode and spanning the sim over three monitors at more than 8000x1440, and that shot the VRAM to the max and there was some stutter on panning.

But on 3440x1440, no issues even when you reach 16 GB. And I would like to add that I have a 2nd monitor with 2560x1440p running maps and such. I've never noticed any impact. 
That's with everything on Ultra and TAA. Just smooth flying. 😎

Well, I fixed my Windows problem after the Bios update without having to re install.

Got the new CPU chip Ryzen 7 5800X3D to go with my new Asus 4070ti GPU

Frame rate is much better, but now the stutters are so bad, the sim is unplayable.

Not sure what is going on. Testing and testing with no solution in sight.

Very disappointing so far.

I just built my dream computer specifically for flight sim this past weekend. Went from an i5-8600 + 1070 to a 7800x3D + 4090 and I can tear myself away from the sim unless work forces me to. I can't believe the difference. It's only a matter of time before I start looking at VR sets

That's what my hunch was given I only rarely get into needing more than 12Gb and that is in the very most complex scenery and aircraft.  I have no plans for 4K or more screen but I use a 2nd screen but it's connected to Intel graphics via the motherboard so puts no load on my 12Gb of VRAM.  Ok I will pick up RTX 4080 which should be more than ample.  I will likely build or buy a new machine w/ 7800x3D or latter version, and that GPU.

That certainly doesn't sound right. Did you ensure you are running the latest chipset drivers? Are you monitoring the temps to check the heatsink and TIM are proper?

I too rebuilt my PC about six months ago with the same CPU and all I can say is     being 'untech build savvy' I am super pleased to not have to mess around with the any overclock and see it run at 5Ghz on liquid cooling.

Check your VRAM usage when it stutters.

Hi all,

Its early, but it would seem that <A Pilots life> software is the culprit for my stutters when in windows mode.

Could be a problem with DSR being on.

Flew CYYZ to KJFK with no problems.

Hard to tell yet how much better the new CPU is making things, but it was very smooth.

Hopefully that really is the problem. Will have to try it with DSR to see.

Took off DSR and everything is running smoothly.

Great frame rate. Almost everything to ultra. Very Smooth.

Very happy with my purchase, despite the problems.

Going to miss DSR. Great for the clarity of the panels.

glad to read this as I am just about to move from my I9-9900k to a system very similar to your one with a 7800x3d. Just a couple of questions:

1) are you using the stock frequency and default bios settings for the CPU or are you using any kind of overclocking ?

2) I have always used Intel CPUs, where I had a “turbo boost” option in the bios to increase the CPU clock (not the manual overclocking, but just the turbo frequency boost which needed to be enabled in the bios to have the CPU max clock increase), but with the 7800 my understanding is that the increase from the base 4.4 Ghz clock to the boost 5.0 Ghz is enabled by default… is my understanding correct ?
