Frame Generation Question

I don't see what you mean by using a 2nd monitor as a solution for ghosting 2D windows--I still have ghosting, but I turned off Shiftz-stats and also minimized the ATC window, that is what reduced the significance of ghosting for me since both are off to the side of my main display.  I guess what you are saying is because I'm running the other display off a different GPU w/o the FG mod all's well on the 2nd screen.

I completely agree with this. I think performance is going to remarkably better.  This is 20-year old code. What GPU do you have again? I have a 3080ti and I think it’s the sweet spot for price and performance. I’m really looking forward to 2024.

The few things that make things much different for you and I as far as the ghosting goes is that I fly on Vatsim, so no open menus on screen ever, save for Sim Brief panel briefly when I’m I putting my flight plan; and I have no second screen, I use an iPad for Vatscope, Navigraph, etc.

Even pre FG mod I had little need to upgrade and told myself def wait til 2024 release and see.  That being said I have FSLTL pretty sparse, but TBH completely fine for my needs.   I don't like crowded airports in the real world so am not bothered when there are only 10 planes in the vicinity it makes it easier to find a good gate ;o).  My current CPU is faltering very slightly w/ needs for more voltage or lower clock speed, but it's got some life in it I'm sure.  If it looks like there is still a need for VRAM when it's time to consider a new build, I'll just dive into 4090 and grab the bandwidth as well as VRAM.  Sounds like if I ever go VR 24Gb of VRAM can't hurt. But no plans for the foreseeable for VR.

Yes, the FG mod has real value for me, especially when one can dial back the native rate to 20 and have that translate to 40, or 25/50 etc.  Even with ultra smooth animation now at higher frame rates I can still get the odd but rare brief stutter.  I think it's VRAM memory bus related because when this happens, and it's rare and has been for a while now, it will be when there is good CPU and GPU and even VRAM headroom, so I wonder if it isn't their bus bandwidth that comes into play.  RTX 4090 has an effective bandwidth 26% greater than 3080Ti, but yes 3080Ti is no slouch for bandwidth.  Still, so much might change well worth holding pat for now, especially w/ the boosts from DynamicLOD and FG mod.

That's a helluva claim there Noel, care to share this on the board so all can benefit?

No, what I meant was that I avoid the issues involved with using a second screen (I’m assuming you mean a second monitor screen) by using an iPad for my other programs like Vatscope, charts, etc. I’ve read of a lot of people having issues using two monitors (or more) with the FG mod.

My bad, I forgot to quote who I was responding to--@petejohno1. I followed what you meant re using a separate device, an iPad.  Anyway, I wonder if these same issues happen w/ NV FG in the RTX 4x GPUs, issues w/ 2nd screens.  I have to guess not.  It is problematic here because I am back and forth between the two screen very frequently.

I will help you get to perfectly smooth flight with all Ultra settings.

Quiet the statement considering that using «all Ultra settings» also means TLOD and OLOD at 200 each... I anyway dont really understand this run for «all ultra settings», reduce some specific settings a notch down from ultra and most probably you wint realize it anyway, but the smoothness will thank you 🤣

For you it does.  All of the sliders and controls combined pale in comparison to the impact of TLOD--that is why people with the most capable hardware were happy to see DynamicLOD appear.  Because of this, the unique issue with TLOD, I've never lumped it into the category of Ultra, and it's not even called Ultra, it's just a number.  I agree there is often very little visual difference with the other settings reducing down a notch, but there is also no meaningful impact in do that either.

Try it with the video I just posted. I have a 3080ti and with that method and frame gen it’s as smooth as it could possibly be.

It was your (Islandsim) video I watched and set it up from. 😄

The results may be acceptable for some. But for me, using TrackIR, with high speed, multi-directional panning, it was just no good.

I use TrackIR and I use an Xbox controller for panning outside views and the drone camera and I don’t have any problems with FG at all.
If anything, TrackIR has been enhanced on my system because it’s so smooth. No tearing, no stuttering.

MSFS seems to have one constant; every one gets inconsistent results🙃
