WU16 new water masks : where?

Recommended Posts

Considering the fact that there was quiet some shouting going on because the trailers showed watermask we did never get (for some regions), it is a blunt idiocracy to repeat this four years later with a world update. End of the story, hopefully it is a bug that can be fixed on the serverside, otherwise we will have another bug on the useless feedback snapshot table moving up with votes, getting the mark "under investigation" and potentially solved with SU35 or WU86...

Wow, I hope they don't go this route (unacceptable)?🥴🥺

This needs a hotfix sooner than later for no more than the fact water masks were there before someone on the Asobo team (not knowing what they were doing) decided to monkey with them.😐

I don't know folks we've seen MS/Asobo's pace with the simple sky color tweak improvement patch.

That took a whole 2 SUs later to happen. I'd hope MS/Asobo would treat this water mask issue as a priority hotfix and not with the oh so common neglectful "to add in later" sort of work pace.

We shall see....🥱

Wait a sec. I don't really know what are water masks and how they work. So the question is can I still use third party programs like MSFS2020 Map Enhancement and see these dаmn water masks?

Not entirely sure, but as far as I know no. Just compare the shallow waters around Nassau vs. what you get in you sim and you certainly KNOW what water masks are 😉

I believe water masks are not just textures. Before WU16 (at least) msfs considered water as water and did not let to place any textures on it apart of generic ones. Now they decided to mark colorful water areas as something else and let textures on it. So it doesn't matter do you use official msfs textures or others like Google or  Apple maps. They all have shallow waters tiles. Am I right?

Water masks are still showing at St. Barts. I don't know if they look any different from before the update or not. I don't have a great memory for those details.

Maybe the masks are a server-side issue that MS/Asobo can (or have?) done in the last couple of hours?

I won't be able to check any areas until this evening (it's noon here).

I didn't install the mess WU16 yet, just the mandatory Steam Update patch before loading the sim.

Not touching that word not allowed until they fix everything.😒

Just sharing my experience - I've flown low and slow from Antigua all the way down to St. Vincent now, and it is nothing but stunningly beautiful the whole way. All the watermasks are there. Not saying the issue doesn't exist, but I haven't seen it yet. Then again I haven't flown where the issue supposedly is.

Pushing a release on schedule despite it being a complete mess is a marketing decision. Albeit  a bad one IMHO.

Oh, right. I’m not sure they actually knew it was such a mess as they’ve happily delayed updates before.

Then maybe you should fly in the places that were reported as missing them now. The Bahamas for example. I just checked and they are indeed gone. As reported.

For the umpteenth time, it can be just as useful to know where things are working as where they're not.

Given that was reported and confirmed we probably didn’t need it reported again. What I did was report what I had seen elsewhere in the region which hadn’t been mentioned.
