and the slow download speeds

Yesterday's update was not slow for me at all. Didn't stare at the screen the whole time, but speed was in the 100-200 mbps range when I watched it, as opposed to the 1-2 mbps we saw at SU15. No observed stalling, either.

Hmm, how is TNCM and TJSJ looking? wondering if it is worth 12GB of download for me since this is the areas I fly the most..

R.

TNCM looked good before this world update. Gaya Simulations built a hand crafted version of the airport for the 40th Anniversary Edition.

What would be the marketing benefit of that?

Pushing a release on schedule despite it being a complete mess is a marketing decision. Albeit  a bad one IMHO.

BTW did anybody check if the watermasks we had before come back when you uninstall WU16?

I believe they were there but now you can't get them back.  I uninstalled WU16 as I'd rather fly in the area with them there and they didn't reappear. Looks like we're stuck with this until they restore the masks (and hopefully fully implement them for the region).  Don't release a region and not fully implement it's most key feature.  The Caribbean without reefs is like a cruise ship without water to sail on.🧐

Mocosobo is a disaster group of people that don't check things before release. But don't worry we have the trailer to enjoy watermasks

Don't the water masks get added bit by bit at the server level?

Yes, but it seems that with this update:

1) water masks are broken worldwide, even in regions not involved by the WU

2) water masks appear in the trailer released yesterday but not in the game, deceiving false advertising!

Not if this is some sort of error.

False advertising is intentional.

and you can still see the masks on the world map. So I think it’s just a bug preventing them from loading properly while in flight.

That's why I figure it was a conscious 'marketing' decision

How is making the sim look worse a marketing decision? That makes no darn sense.

Plus as others have said some places do have new water masks. So it’s more likely some sort of bug in the code. You can still see the missing masks on the world map, so something is preventing them from loading in flight.

I think they are coming and will start appearing out of the blue. Didn't this happen before in one of the earlier updates?

It's not only the water mask that went haywire.

I use a version of no toolbar handle and there were 3 emty options added.

After switching over to anothery one available at FS.to  that got it solved.

Good grief, they don’t do themselves any favours. I mean, forgetting / borking the water masks in an island update…

Yeah, one of the reasons i won’t be upgrading to 2024 when released. So many things will most likely be broken. Hey, this is a very big and complex application, so i get it. I am just not willing to do a rerun of 2020 again.

Remember pre release they showed us all those videos with water masks, when we got the Sim there weren't there...

Add it to the list of many things they struggle with.
