Would like to report MSFS 2020 freezing while in VR with the latest build (test10).  It freeze since about 1 week.   Before that, 2020 was really stable and i'm able to do long run (with autofps) without issue.  Sorry, did not had time to do more extensive testing for now.    Basically, no autofps = no freeze.

During the last week, I did several IFR flight with PMDG 737 and if autofps running, the sim freeze periodically.   after 1-2 min it comes back most of the time.

This morning, I reinstalled to get a new config file and same thing with 737.   The log show my last flight with the Hawk T1 just having fun and same thing, freeze.

If you want more info, contact via this thread or direct via PM.

(Log sent via PM)

Other than changing the compatibility test recently, which is now more robust but still results in the same simple pass or fail, there have been no changes that should have effected how the app automates settings and interacts with MSFS (either version). Nonetheless, seemingly unrelated changes can have an impact on other functionality so it is possible I have stepped on something that I shouldn't have. I did a 3 hour flight in 2020 a couple of days ago with the latest test version at the time and experienced no issues myself.

I received your log file and will look into it in the next couple of days after Xmas festivities have finished up in my house.  In the meantime, if you experience this again, please take a screenshot of AutoFPS at the exact moment of the freeze and message me it and the last few lines of your log file associated with the freeze and I'll have a much better chance of uncovering the issue.

Very simple question I have about the app: how much better performance should I expect during take off, during landing and in the air? Second question, can I mess something up if I don’t use this app correctly. I used DLLS (quality) and I get good visuals and semi decent performance. With this app installed, what should I expect in terms of performance?

You only need the answer to your second question, which is no. The rest of them depends on what your visual quality versus performance expectations vs your system's capabilities are, so the only way to find out is to try it out for yourself.

Hello, I want to try out this App since I am always limited by CPU. I am a bit confused though. In the readme it says that the app (in the eyes of Microsoft) is regarded as Messing with licensed data. I don’t want to risk a steam ban or something similar for using an app which (in the eyes of steam/microsoft) is not allowed.

Is it safe to use in this regard?

This app, and its descendant apps, have carried that warning for around one year and, to my knowledge, no one has received such a ban, including me being the author of two of them. The data it accesses is just settings that the user could otherwise manipulate exactly the same themself if they could be bothered going to the settings menu every second, so pretty much harmless. If that is not comforting enough, then I suggest you don't use it.

I will just because I dislike coming in for a landing on final and my sim becoming a PowerPoint presentation. The airports are very heavy on frames. Based on the reviews thus far, you have developed a good solution to a multi decade problem. Irrespective of the computer hardware, you will have stutters in many of these mega airports. Looking forward to trying it. If this become “the thing” I hope you get compensated for your work.

I've tinkered a bit after my Xmas festivities and have come up with what I think is a viable way for users to choose, during the installation process, the old way the app used to close to the system tray when the window close button is clicked. It is in test 12 which you can download here. https://github.com/ResetXPDR/MSFS_AutoFPS/releases/tag/v0.4.4.2-test

If that is satisfactory to those who wanted its return and there are no further issues to report with this latest test build (it has been silent for the last few days but it is the holiday break with family for a lot of users), I should be good to go with formally releasing this new robustness improvement version in the next few days. If you do have an issue, please let me know beforehand so I can address it before formal release.

Here's what the new option, which defaults to unchecked, looks like in the installer window:

Great! I'll give it a try after work today.

Hello

Is it possible with your Code to switch Frame Generation ON and OFF?

Thanks for your Answer.

No, because this is something users wish to choose for themselves and normally stays set that way so there is nothing to automate anyway. The app will detect which FG choice you have made at the start of each session or manually by pressing the app's Reset button if you change it after starting the session.

Qiestion ; when climbing from Alt TLOD base Will TLOD then gradually go up or is it free to go to the max TLOD If the FPS are good enough ?

eg : Alt LOD Base is 1000 ft.

Up to now I used the default 1000 ff for Alt TLOD Base icw TLOD Min at 50.

The reason is that I am using a Left View client and sometimes at a liower altitude ( below 6000 ff ) and a large AG batch is apoearing at the right ( going from right to left quickly ) I see a short stutter for 1-3 seconds.

It's working - thanks for the option to close to systray.

Unrelated:

I've been switching between FPS sensitivity and Auto TLOD lately. The latter is great for being able to lock FPS (better frame time consistency = smoothness) - I think I'll stay with this for a while. The only weakness I can think of (which is of course related to the functionality), is that when flying over high mountains, TLOD reduces as AGL decreases. This can lead to significant changes in TLOD e.g. when overflying Mont Blanc at a few thousand feet AGL.

Okay.

Now the app wont show on deaktop when I select show from the systray. It shows the first time after install.

1. Install -> Start -> Configure -> Close -> It dont show when I select show

2. Install -> Start -> Configure -> Close -> Exit -> Start -> Show -> It dont show when I select show

It did show on desktop before and I could reconfigure without starting MSFS.

Edit: Well, sometimes it shows on desktop and sometimes it dont.

Is this stutter a new thing? If so, since what version? Also, what is a large "AG" batch?

I am assuming you are using one of the FPS automation methods. If so, then the Average Descent Rate determines what the altitude band is above Alt TLOD base is before TLOD Max is allowed, as follows:

  • Avg Descent Rate- Used in combination with FPS sensitivity to determine the altitude band in which TLOD will be interpolated between TLOD Min at the Alt TLOD base starting point and the lower of TLOD Max and the maximum TLOD your system can achieve while achieving at least your desired FPS target at a calculated top altitude. (200fpm - 10000fpm allowable)
    • This band ensures that, if you descend at your set Avg Descent Rate or less, that the app can decrement TLOD from TLOD Max to TLOD Min by the Alt TLOD Base without exceeding the LOD Step rate associated with the FPS sensitivity level you have set.

With a multiple view setup running on different computers, it would be hard to get consistent results unless the computer specs and your AutoFPS settings are exactly the same. Is this the case?
