MSFS Auto FPS App

Please let me know if this is suitable, noting what is written needs to strike a balance between being succinct and still providing enough information for someone with a reasonable grasp of what the app can do but is unfamiliar with a specific feature.

As someone who has spent a lot of time experimenting with FPS Cap, I’d say you’ve included the necessary details whilst at the same time making it legible. But it’d probably be more useful getting input from people less familiar with the latest changes.

I'm struggling with stutters after the 4.4.2 updates. I'm trying with FPS cap and Lossless Scalling FG and I don't know what's exactly happening. One configuration give me heavy stutters, other screen tearing, other poor graphics. So I usually get tired of messing with the configurations and go back to the non expert and everything works better.

It's very hard to pinpoint whats doing what.

In anticipation of 0.4.4.3 formal release, likely tomorrow morning my time (Australia), I have created draft release notes and have updated the readme with the new or changed features. Of particular note are the new sections on FPS Cap Mode, FG limitations, FPS cap detection in non-expert mode and the new Check for Updates option

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!  Clear, concise, and all in one place.  Thank you!

OK, fair enough. FPS Sensitivity mode does seem more suitable for you.

FYI, I did more testing. I just realized that I in "FPS Caps" mode, I had left the Target FPS to 40, assuming that the target was FPS before LSFGx3. But no, I had to set it to 120 to match my 40 caps x3 . So now, it doesn't inflate the TLOD that I was 'asking it ' to do. With a Target FPS 120 is is ok. This is testing on ground. I will do some actual flying in "Fps caps" mode this weekend and report back.

Somewhat related question: How do you lock your frames? I've lock it inside MSFS2024 since the Nvidia app causnig the "6% Loading Language" problem. Do you guys have a workaroung?

Those sort of issues are usually caused by having too aggressive settings. If non-expert mode is working fine then use your MSFS default TLOD as your starting point for expert settings, then adjust from there. For example, when configuring FPS Cap mode, try initially setting your TLOD Base and Top to what non-expert would have set them as covered in the updated readme, then change from there eg.

  • LOD Step - 5
  • Alt TLOD Top - VFR 3000 ft, IFR 5000 ft
  • TLOD Base - VFR 50% of your current MSFS TLOD setting, IFR 25%
  • TLOD Top - VFR 150% of your current MSFS TLOD setting, IFR 100%
  • Headroom + - enabled
  • TLOD Top - - enabled

For VR I use the Meta Virtual Desktop app to set SSW to always on with a target of 80 FPS, which gives me a 40 FPS lock in VR. In 2D, I use either vsync in MSFS at 50% monitor refresh for a 30 FPS cap or RTSS set to 20 FPS for cruise phases with a hotkey to toggle it on and off. In nVidia CP, I also set a global 60 FPS cap as that is what my main monitor (TV) maxes out at and in VR it will never get there anyway.

MSFS_AutoFPS version 0.4.4.3 has now been formally released and is now available for download here. The readme has also been updated with the changes and new features. Thanks to everyone who participated in the test phase and provided invaluable feedback that shaped the final product.

Summary of changes:

  • Added a new TLOD FPS Cap automation method to work within the constraint of an FPS Cap (PC or VR).
  • Added automatic FPS Cap detection in non-expert mode, which will use the new FPS Cap automation method if an FPS Cap is detected.
  • Improved LSFG multiplier detection to work with the new LSFG 3.0 (including custom multipliers) and existing 2.3 and 1.1 formats.
  • Implemented various app optimisations, bug fixes and UI refinements.

Example screenshots of new features follow.

I've been out of simming for awhile, and it looks like this program has changed a lot. I'm not using 2024 because, well, yeah. Can someone with my specs give me a place to start in setting this up with the new features please? Sifting through 80+ pages ain't doing the trick. TIA

The release notes, which summarises everything that has transpired recently, should give you what you want.

In any case, the actual functionality and UI changes in the last couple of versions have been pretty minimal, with the latest one being the most notable with the introductionof FPS Cap automation method (which is actually not really new as it is just a preset of an existing method). Most changes are spit and polish, robustness improvements and bug fixes under the hood.

We have very similar specs. I'm using these settings, which work really well. I use RTSS to lock FPS in front-edge sync. I've set TLOD in the sim menu to 200. Just ask or pm me if you have any questions. That goes for everyone I guess - I'm happy to help.
