How to wreck performance in MSFS with a decent rig

Wow, 153 FPS at a major hub! Is this a handcrafted airport? 153 FPS, without AI, at a handcrafted airport (even an Asobo handcrafted airport) at 4K Ultra is still very, very, good FPS.

It's FlyTampa's Toronto Pearson International. Nearby Toronto CBD is photogrammetry I think. Also Billy Bishop Toronto City (CYTZ) by FSimStudios is quite close. Not sure how much of that is loaded into the sim at low TLOD though.

With AI traffic (FSLTL) I'd guess FPS loss is 10-20 (depending on how many AI aircraft you set of course).

Wow, that's very good FPS, for a handcrafted airport like FlyTampa Toronto Pearson!  And Toronto with photogrammetry on is probably not that friendly for FPS either.  That's very good!

t's not quite FPS 200 (who needs that anyway?), but 153 at a major 3rd party hub should be good enough!

(4K DLSS ultra quality, most settings ultra/max, Classic C172 parked at gate, no AI traffic, on latest AutoFPS test version with new Auto Target FPS feature):

could you please repeat the same scenario without AutoFPS at CYYZ in the C172 classic and report fps using the default developer mode FPS display. I am getting only 95 fps @ 4K (without AutoFPS that is). I may have to try this in VR.

I was just gonna explore the spectacular Lofoten Islands with TLOD 600, but for you turbo I'll take a detour to CYYZ - I'll report back imminently!

You absolutely should. Some happy VR users have reported in the AutoFPS thread recently.

not Lofoten, but Menufoten: 552 fps @ 4K, can you do that without AutoFPS?

the best I ever had without AutoFPS and all that were only true but honest 140 fps

The thing is, max FPS would of course highly depend on TLOD. But anyway here's CYYZ in the classic 172, no AI traffic.

TLOD 600 OLOD 200, no AutoFPS:

TLOD 100 OLOD 1000 using AutoFPS. AutoFPS reports 150 FPS while RTSS OSD reports 120 (the discrepancy is probably due to RTSS won't display higher FPS than monitor's max refresh rate).

will be interesting to see how and what Asobo will implement of those intelligent dynamic optimization techniques in MSFS 2024 now that the community has come up with some clever suggestions..

I'm afraid they won't touch these freeware apps with a 10 foot pole. They might however secretly implement some dynamic optimization techniques using the developer of AutoFPS's open source code and take credit for this without mentioning who the real genius is 😉

Btw I edited my post from CYYZ. Decided to run AutoFPS in 2nd image which is TLOD 100 OLOD 1000.

If you push that TLOD any higher, the game will start rendering terrain on other planets in the Solar System.

Don’t worry, I’m not too serious about this. Just experimenting.

Btw I’d appreciate it if we could avoid the derogatory name calling. Cheers 😉

“Everyone” should go grab the latest AutoFPS build. It has a much improved full-auto mode that will carefully balance between “reasonable” FPS and TLOD. Especially those who favor scenic flights in remote locations. No need for any tweaking to obtain “stupid” TLODs. Only stupid people will do that (I really don’t like being called stupid!) Just load up a flight, AutoFPS and it’s pretty much “set and forget”.
