Refresh rate with triple monitors

Featured Replies

Do we have any idea if Asobo will ever add support for proper triple screen support? Currently, only the main(middle) monitor has full refresh rate

Wondering the same thing here as FG only works on the main monitor.

So with FF on the main monitor will have twice the fps than the side monitors.

I'm using 2 1440p 32" 16x9 monitors. With FG on or off the fps is identical on both screens. But I'm not using the Experimental setup in MSFS options for multi monitors. I'm using Nvidia Control Panel Surround instead.

Proper multi monitor support is something I pray for in MSFS 2024. I doubt we get it, however.

word not allowed I hope they make some improvements here...at the very least allow FG to work on all windows not just the main one..... But I also don't hold out much hope

Are your two screens identical then?  I'm having a terrible time enjoying the benefits of FG (RTX4090) w/o having artifacts appear in the MSFS screen, so I've turned FG off.  What happens is this:  let's say i set the FG frame rate to 60 or 70 (30 or 35 native).  I will get panning and motion artifacts in the MSFS display including strobing out the side window looking at the tarmac in certain kinds of lighting, and also some aberration in the glass cockpit displays when panning.  It's bad enough to be a serious distraction hence I've turned it off.  If my main screen rate is say 70, and I click on my 2nd display (it's a 1080p display, whereas MSFS is on a 3440x1440 display), the rate on the main display will drop to around 50 or so and here's the weird part:  all the FG related artifact on the main screen disappears!  Problem is I lose some smoothness when doing this even though the rate is still pretty high.

I'm using Win 11's display controls setting up the two screens as extended displays.  Are you getting any of the artifacts I described?

You can run in windowed mode and just drag the screen over all the monitors you have, and FG should work fine.

AMD Ryzen R9 9950X3D | Asus Astral RTX 5080 OC | 32 GB DDR5 6000 CL30 | 3440x1440 G-Sync | Logitech Pro Throttles Rudder Yoke Panels | Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS | TrackIR 5 | Oculus Rift S

My monitors are identical. And they are not extended. Instead they are joined together with Nvidia Surround which as you know is a menu item in Nvidia Control Panel. 2x 2560 x 1440 = 5120 x 1440. But Surround has a "bezel correction" feature that allows adding horizontal pixels behind the bezel which aren't seen because the bezel covers them. So my windows display is 5162 x 1440 (42 wide pixels hidden behind the bezel). This means that if the bezel is partially covering a round gauge, then the gauge will still look round, not oval.

So, here's the thing: as soon as Surround is used to join 2 monitors, then MSFS will suddenly give as an option choice, twice the previous highest choice. And plus the correction if bezel correction is being used.

Without surround, the maximum resolution that MSFS offers me is 2510 x 1440. As soon as I turn on Surround in NCP and set a bezel correction there, then MSFS now offers two maximums: 5120 x 1440 and 5162 x 1440. MSFS sees my two monitors as being one monitor, instead of 2 monitors with an extended desktop across them.

When I choose full screen in MSFS, the cockpit view is almost five feet wide (two conventional 32" 16:9 monitors). Or instead I can choose windowed view and drag the MSFS window any width I want it to be. Like for instance 1 and 3/4 wide instead of double wide. And run other programs in the 1/4 wide remaining. This will increase fps in MSFS. 1-1/2 wide will increase fps further, and would then be about only 10% less than single wide.

I'm testing MSFS right now using Nvidia surround plus one 16" touch panel. Windows sees these 3 mointors as two monitors. One double wide and one smaller single wide. To see if I can see anything like what Noel is reporting. I have not noticed it before.

"

I switched to using the top right square icon for full screen over one monitor instead of two monitors wide view.

I'm sitting at the default runway London City payware airport. 80 fps (40 native, FG on). Panning in cockpit or outside view is smooth. No artifacts.

Now flying over the skyscrapers of London all is smooth when panning in cockpit and outside view. No stutters, no hesitations, no flashes of light at all. FPS is up to 95 now. I'm using DLSS Quality, Ultra preset for rendering . LODs of 170 and 200.

Now I switch to DLAA. I'm still over 90 fps and flying above the city buildings. I can pan in the outside view by just moving a hat switch left or right and the plane stays put but the scenery behind it (outside view) spins round and round as long as I hold the hat switch. All is smooth. No aritfacts. Inside cockpit now flashing light looking out right window downward.

The  only thing in the glass screens is a slight blur if I am panning around (MSFS calls this looking around). The blur ends instantly as soon as I stop panning. I see absolutely nothing  of concern. Nothing bothers me in the graphics.

I do not use  TAA nor DLAA and prefer DLSS. But I just now switched to DLAA. And the result is the same: smoothness panning. The glass screens are a little sharper, not much however. Nothing bothering on the screens while panning except the normal blur with any graphics while panning. It stops instantly as soon as I release the panning hatswitch.

FG has been on all this time. If I move the mouse curser over to the small touch screen, then FG goes away and fps falls in half (right now from 78 to about 38). But with curser on small screen and FG off, panning outside view still is smooth as can be.

By the way, I'm using the latest DLSS 3.7 .dll files and presets all at E as shown on Youtube by IslandSimPilot channel. These 2 .dll files (one of them is a FG .dll file) are supposed to help smoothness and reduce stutters, according to him.

EDIT: He uploaded how use presets E but the method was for non native FG artificially modded in. The next day he uploaded a version for 4000 cards (I  have 4070). I used that second version he uploaded which is easier to set up and only works with 4000 series cards. His first  method works for 2000 and 3000 series cards.

Also, before using the new latest .dll files and presets E, I would not use DLAA at all (it reduced fps too much and caused stuttering compared to DLSS). But now there is only a little drop in fps when I switch from DLSS to DLAA. And only 10 fps when using TAA (just now it  went from DLSS 69 fps to 59 using TAA). Panning  was  smotth using either. Panning was not smooth when using the normal .dll files using TAA for the same settings in MSFS, which are pretty high.

Bless and thank you for the detailed description but I'm not sure how to interpret it.   Perhaps this is something related to TAA.  Of note, others in other threads mention this very same issue as I describe it with Nvidia FG.  I have zero issues "panning" per se, it's the artifacts that are the show stoppers here.  And as said, if I park my mouse pointer on the little screen those go away on the main screen.

Perhaps you might be willing to duplicate my test settings, only w/ regard to this issue.  If so, try this:

  • Use TAA
  • Use one 1440p and the other small screen as I have here.
  • Use Windows extended displays for your two screens
  • Report if you're getting any of these artifacts as I describe them.  Do you happen to have Orbx's KSBA?  If so, park at gate A2 and you will have a fence in front of you.  Pan side to side and you can see the strobing I refer to, which I notice normally when looking out the side to tarmac under certain lighting conditions.  This fence though makes it very clear here, the difference when FG is on and the mouse is active on the main screen, then the aberration vanishes when the 2nd screen is active.

That's a lot and if you don't want to I understand!  I don't know if a video can show this but I will try in a few minutes...

No luck same issue here in windowed mode w/ regard to artifacts associated w/ FG when a 2nd screen is used as an extended display in Win 11.

Back from lunch.

This was with Asobo stock default KSBA Parking 2A (I  don't have  ORBS version).

I reset resolution in msfs to 2510 x 1440p. msfs displayed on one screen only.

FG on TAA fps 122 mouse parked main screen.

FG on TAA fps 94 mouse  parked on 2nd screen (set at 1440p).

FG on TAA fps 94 mouse parked on 3rd screen (720p screen 16").

FG off TAA fps 94 regardless where the mouse is  parked.

Looking through the chain link fence ahead I see nothing unusual and nothing different in the fence in any of my tests regardless where mouse is parked. (I'm not sure what strobing is but I see nothing).

Nothing different in the fence even if zoomed in or in outside or cockpit views. In all tests above the fence looks exactly the same in stationary views or when panning.
