ATC: A quick comparison test

Kevin, as always, you're teasing a great product! Looking forward to seeing it revealed.

Will it work with time compression?

Also, there was a question about a week ago (maybe on Discord) about whether there would be a button interface for those that prefer not to, or can't, use the voice interface. Were you able to ask the developer about that?

Thanks again.

Actually I haven't tested with time compression, it's a sim feature I've never ever used.  Should test that really.  Problem is that as you are handed over from one sector to another you need to acknowledge those calls and change freqs.  I don't know whether it's possible have the app do that automatically when it's set to time= more than 1x.  Have to ask...

Button version, probably (don't hold me to that), but not at initial release.

Thanks. Hopefully it works with time compression, if it's used from time to time.

I also hope that the button interface is something that is mentioned (even if it's projected farther down the road) when it releases.

Then again we don't know yet what voices VoxATC will have (or I missed it). Will it be limited to TTS-voices you have to purchase one by one by yourself like it was before?

And finally we don't know when VoxATC will be available. Maybe by the time of the VoxATC release one or several of the other addons also will have made significant progress on their way to a true full ATC environment.

There will be some.new voices I think in some form, and release will be when it's ready, but that won't be that long I feel.  When we feel we have a RC I'll be looking for a small group of new testers to approach it with fresh eyes.  I've PM'ed a couple of notable people here already in preparation 😉

Nice in-game panel... Something that is giving many BATC EA purchasers issues.

Given what is shown, it does seem like a button interface would be rather far away, if at all.

How does the First Officer work? Simple frequency changes, read backs and check ins?

Not necessarily, I don't think it would be that difficult compared to actually getting the ATC ops right.

You can see the in sim UI already incorporates buttons.  Extending this to enable response by button shouldn't be technically difficult, but I'll be up front it isn't likely to be in the initial release.

FO yes as described.

This flight was Bournemouth to Exeter VFR, making a MATZ penetration at Yeovilton, then receiving radar traffic service until handover to Exeter Approach and tower 😄

Forensic experts will note the matchup of traffic notifications, with those on the GTN650 😉

A button interface would be a must for me. I don't want to be forced to wear a headset and talk to my computer all the time. Imho it should be essential for every "ATC-addon" to provide both options: voice control and button control.

Duly noted. FWIW I'm of the same opinion, even though I would never use a button interface.  Fortunately you can see the in game UI panel utilises buttons already so technically isn't likely to be a showstopper 🙂

Nice. I get those with P2ATC as well, but it will be great if the traffic is generated by VoxATC (I'm currently injecting PSXT traffic).

I think I saw you say somewhere that it'll be generated by AIG flight plans?

Yes the AI traffic in the shots above is all injected and controlled by VoxATC.

AIG flightplans can be used for Vox to generate AI from yes.  And that won't just be scheduled airline traffic.....

Hmm, a few different options here. Heuristic GA traffic, real time GA traffic (possibly even fromFR24?), randomized schedule changes due to weather/mechanical issues, military aircraft...

Here's a little bit of background about Lower Airspace Radar Services in the UK...

What is a Lower Airspace Radar Service? - NATS Blog

Here's a closeup of the Vox UI together with the GTN650 display at the same time, giving me a traffic service from a radar Air Traffic Service Unit (ATSU).

Note the VoxATC traffic advisories at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock match up to the display 😄

From your description it seems, VOX ATC has made very, very big steps since several month ago after the developer has thrown me out of the beta (silently, without any comment) as I repeatetly pronounced which aspects I see as showstopper (weird installation process, decluttered into several single programs, very difficult setup, forced to have a microphone plugged-in, 1990s interface, several CTDs and freezes, no reliable button inputs, not to use without voice (no button only usage).

So, I feared that these things will future customers make very upset, but all that seems to be solved now?! Great!
