A rainforrest in Iceland

Featured Replies

Since the release of MSFS i noticed that the density of trees was a bit overdone in the area where i live.
Since it's a urban area and building seem to have a priority over trees, it didn't look that bad, just a bit too much.

Earlier this week i came back from a trip to Iceland and decided to fly around a bit over there.
Much to my amazement, Kevlavik airport was covered with trees while in real life there isn't a tree in sight, it's as good as a barren wasteland.
For me it was a all of sudden a big mock-up. The so called super reality MSFS always bragged about received i big beating. GA flying in MSFS will never be the same.

I'd recommend 1) getting the MK Studios Keflavik payware airport scenery for BIKF, and 2) also looking at the tree removal mods available on flightsim.to as they address the overabundance elsewhere in the country.

Why are there so many trees in MSFS? Why have Asobo not corrected this after four years of active development?

Do you think it could be the Blackshark AI algorithm telling the sim to depict a tree -- when in fact --  the image may actually depict something else, like a depression in terrain or a sheep (BAA!) or road sign?

I don't know the reason, but it sounds plausible.  I mean they have to be using some sort of AI, or at least some sort of *instancing*, to populate the world with vegetation like they do.  They simply wouldn't have time to hand-draw the forested areas vs. non-forested otherwise.

Overdone and ridiculously placed trees have been reported through the life of the sim its evident throughout the sim's world to a varying degree

Its one of the things that has been constant since 2020 was released, 3rd party tweeks are the only way to alleviate it.

The question is: why is the number of trees in the real world about 2 times the number of trees in MSFS (3 trillion VS 1.5 - 2 trillion) and it always seems like there are too many trees in MSFS?

Maybe the problem is their size and variety: they may initially have gotten an estimate that includes every shrub on the planet and aimed at making such a number of huge, house-size trees instead...
