June 20, 20241 yr Author One day my $799 Pimax Light will ship. I got an email from them saying "soon". 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. June 21, 20241 yr I’ve only trusted the Oculus/Meta Quest HMDs, They actually have the $capital to stay in the game, My Quest Pro colours are exceptional - absolutely no chromatic aberration… As always - caveat emptor
June 21, 20241 yr Big prices but then to be fair, we have had plenty of warning at what it would start at so no real surprise. Just confirms that I won't be buying one. Ultimately the same panels as the Crystal Light, albeit with improved optics, but can't justify 2.5x the entry price. Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB, Win 11. MSFS2020. Moza, MFG, Fulcrum & Virpil controllers. Quest 3 for VR.
June 21, 20241 yr The lowest tier headset in this line-up is over 2k with taxes. Pimax's new headsets, which I have no doubt will be just as good if not better than these, are way more "affordable" than these. Unless these are business editions, I'm not sure what the thinking behind the pricing is. Edit: If you compare the specs between the Somnium, Crystal Light and Super, the Light is pretty much on par with the Somnium in all aspects, and the Super is superior to the Somnium in resolution, FOV, and lens tech (QLED and Micro-OLED available). And it's still slightly less expensive or equal to (depending on taxes) the lowest tier Somnium headset. Other drawbacks with the Somnium are it's heavier than at least the Light (most likely heavier than the Super too) and it lacks inside-out tracking vs. the Crystals, so unless you have some already add a further $500 for two Steam base stations if you want full tracking. It also comes without controllers, so you're gonna have to pay for that too if you don't already have some... making it even more expensive. word not allowed. Pimax is clearly the way to go here, as you get more bang for fewer bucks. They also are an established player in the VR world, whereas Somnium has yet to prove itself. Here is a comparison between the Somnium and the Crystal Light: https://vr-compare.com/compare?h1=fJwyyQiC3&h2=6nd6PhR_A This is Somnium vs. Crystal Super: https://vr-compare.com/compare?h1=fJwyyQiC3&h2=F206d3eAD Edited June 21, 20241 yr by threexgreen

If you look at the specs comparison Pimax wins easily, and that's as factual and objective as it gets. If you then factor in that Pimax's highest tier headset (Super), which is superior to Somnium in many specs, is about equal in price to Somnium's lowest tier headset, which gets even more expensive since you need to buy controllers and base stations for tracking separately, I don't see what Somnium still has going for it compared to Pimax. As for the form factor, that's probably subjective. Personally, I couldn't care less about what the headset looks like on the outside. Size is semi-important to me. What's important is the weight, and Pimax again wins easily. Somnium is new to the game. This is their first headset, and there is no way of telling how they are going to hold up in the market. Pimax has had a high-end headset on the market for a few years which has been successful. So yeah, I'm very sure at this point in time.

June 24, 20241 yr I was at the FSExpo, saw it. I'll stick with my Aero, but hear me out. I bought the Aero a while back at the 1/2 price drop point. So I'm speaking economics. I know my Aero is an orphan unfortunately. But if it went South, I do like the VR1 (a lot!). So those that can afford the price point, the pass through and build are awesome! I wish the best for the VR1. Since I have the basic eco-system, (base stations, etc...) going with the VR1 would dip in just fine. Understood, the whole support and longevity is also an important component. Note, my Aero is a dead end at this point, so hopefully I can ride it until... maybe a VR2... 😁 MSI MAG Z790 Carbon, i9-13900k, NH-D15 cooler, 64 GB CL40 6000mhz RAM, MSI RTX4090, Yamaha 5.1 A/V Receiver, 4x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe, 1x 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD, Win 11 Pro, TM Warthog, Virpil WarBRD, MFG Crosswinds, 43" Samsung 4K TV, 21.5 Acer VT touchscreen, TrackIR, Varjo Aero, Wheel Stand Pro Super Warthog, Phanteks Enthoo Pro2 Full Tower Case, Seasonic GX-1200 ATX3 PSU, PointCTRL, Buttkicker 2, K-51 Helicopter Collective Control

We are talking apples to oranges here. Somnium VR1 a dedicated hardwired display port high visual fidelity HMD with a specific target pc power user consumer base. You are comparing your standalone wireless HMD that has a ton of visual compromise through wireless and optional Link USB cable compression. While your Quest Pro has slightly better colors than the Quest 3 it's still visually inferior image wise to a full display port powered HMD like the VR1. Alot of folks still prefer the Quest 3 over the Pro as far as heavy PCVR gaming is concerned. Neither are superior to the image quality Display Port powers. The Quest Pro standalone capabilities are simply null and void to the targeted consumer base of the VR1. We are buying this VR1 HMD for the hardwired experience with far superior visuals of what Quest HMDs are unable to provide at this time. June 24, 20241 yr I prefer using the still excellent Quest Pro with AirLink - just love the freedom while flying untethered, Also, I know how to tune it well, & the DCI-P3 beautiful colours with eye tracking as well - plus no chromatic aberrations, Enjoy your VR1 as much as I do the Quest Pro… Very happy in VR for now!
