Canopy pops open in flight!

Featured Replies

Had to be really harsh on her eyes.  My first thought was that a helmet with goggles or a shield would have been a real benefit.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Strange how the camera panned down just after it occurred?

She handled it very well. You could see what happened right when she closed the Canopy. I could see the Canopy pop up ever so slightly when she closed the deadbolt indicating that the pin impacted the edge of the steel tube welded onto the fuselage but instead of slipping down into the ring it slipped over the top causing the canopy to raise very slightly. I can imagine that might feel like the canopy closing normally. I lost my canopy in a sailplane entirely in a similar fashion several years ago. In my case I was distracted during my checks and didn't lock the canopy at all! 🤪Then on down wind when I dropped the gear it jarred the canopy out of place and wosh! It was gone!🤣

It's a one piece canopy and windscreen so when it it opened whatever GoPro type device that was fitted was also exposed to the airflow.

Personally, I think it was staged.
