July 7, 20241 yr Lately I’ve been trying to simplify/declutter everything - my office, my bookshelves (ugh!), closets, garage, etc. So today, frustrated by a few long pauses/hard stutters I decided to do the same thing to my MSFS installation after noticing how slickety smooth the sim seemed to run in an intentionally induced “safe mode”. I used my add on linker to blow away almost everything in my “Community” folder, then (carefully!) did the same to my “official” folder. Then, for an added bit of fun, I ramped up the screen resolution to 4K, just to see if my 3060 could handle it. Based on some flights around the downtown Seattle area and Oshkosh in the Shorts Skyvan, DHC-2, and C414, all is well, even at 4K. I also determined what I sort of already knew after 27 years of flight simming, that certain add ons just guzzle main thread resources. I’ll see how long I can keep my sim as clutter free and close to default as possible, but for now it’s great! Edited July 7, 20241 yr by Republic DC9
July 7, 20241 yr Yes...totally agree on both fronts...the house and the sim...however I love many of my addons which tend to be regionally specific, so addon-linker is the tool...I organize at a couple levels so that I can quickly turn stuff on and off depending on the flight I might take... Glad to hear this is working for...now if I could just get up the energy to declutter the darn garage. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
July 7, 20241 yr I am a minimalist probably to a fault (everything I own is in my 20 foot camper RV except for my truck) and only have 2 paints in my community folder. My thought is that if you need a tool like addon linker you have too much stuff. Less is more, small is beautiful ect, ect. Good luck with it. sp

July 7, 20241 yr I use a minimalist setup as well. I don’t have any 3rd party scenery. I do use AIG aircraft to populate the skies, and I use auto-FPS to optimize performance, but that’s about it in terms of MSFS mods for me. MSFS is my scenery generator for PSX, so I don’t have any 3rd party aircraft or liveries for MSFS. And PSX only simulates the 744, so I only fly one aircraft type.
July 7, 20241 yr To add to this...I am mostly a GA flying, occasionally a biz jet..and the old warplanes and modern jets for fun...I like to do short hops and in some regions one can find great freeware stuff that adds lots of spice to airport experience...so no minimalist is not me, I like add-ons for GA airport experience both freeware and payware. I would suppose if flying the big heavy's at 35,000 ft from big city to big city, then I can see how smaller airport add-ons do nothing. Scenery for BC, where I live, tops the list with 6 GB.. but other regions/countries also are in the 4-5 GB range.. At that rate, it does not take long to build up a library.. 🤫 Edited July 7, 20241 yr by Bert Pieke Bert

I’ll see how long I can keep my sim as clutter free and close to default as possible, but for now it’s great! I"m doing the same. I'm on a campaign to keep it simple. Just got rid of two iPads and so far have been able to refrain from upgrading my desktop PC. I stopped using a HOTAS set-up and currently just using a VR headset and a simple joystick but I will eventually get rid of that too. Hopefully just do all my flight simming using a laptop and replace the joystick with a gamepad. I just bought the Flydigi Vader 3 Pro and the Redragon M913 mouse. Lots of buttons on both (see links below) which should work with DCS A-10C too. July 8, 20241 yr I agree with this sentiment, but I'm holding fire until 2024 is released. I get pretty good performance at present using the Frame Gen and AutoFPS mods. 2024 will be incorporating many current addons into the sim itself i.e. VFR regions 1 to 3 for instance, add to that the graphic innovations like procedural generation makes me think MSFS2024 will be a whole new ballgame. July 8, 20241 yr Actually I do have about 20gb of stuff from the MP but don't have to muss with it. sp
July 9, 20241 yr Minimalist is fine until 'something happens' and you must immediately fly to a different country on a different continent. Than you'd be sorry you don't have everything under the sun on your drive!!🙃😂😂😂😉
