It's the opposite with my CL. If the room is too dark, then I loose tracking, even with my monitor on.

Interesting...🤔 Not good these devices are acting differently.  My thing now is to figure out why tracking get's affected by third party scenery.  This is especially a problem for approaches and departures.

If this has been a problem with others I wonder why it's just now being brought up when I buy the headset.  I could have saved myself some money and aggravation.

More finding with the Cystal Light:

There's a difference using PimaxXR versus OpenXR/Stream:

1. Using the PimaxXR runtime causes the problem I've been having with head tracking during the day

2. Steam/OpenXR seems to run fine without issues with head tracking in the daytime

3. Cheaply made add-on scenery (MS Scenery Builders) has serious performance issues with the Cystal.  I need a replacement now for KORL and KSFB.

Still testing.🧐

I don't use steamVR. I don't have the controllers to navigate in steamVR.

Make sure you are using OpenComposite to switch between both.

You don't need controllers.😶 You just run it from the Primax Cystal console.

If you're talking about room boarder setup, you press the button on top of the Crystal to choose you your desired option.

Update/Observation🧐:

It appears the after much testing PimaxXR runtime option has a slightly better visual in MSFS than the OpenXR/Steam option. Makes since as the runtime was specifically designed for the headset.

Update/Observation🧐:

Thank you Dillon for reporting your findings...I have a Crystal Light on it's way and your postings will help me.

I assume you do not have the light houses and simply use the inside out tracking...if so, are you able to lean in or left or right (to read a gauge for example)?

The Pimax Crystal Light Setup Guide implies I need at least one light house to do this...

Here's what they say:

If you don’t have the base station select the 9-axis sensor in tracking mode, which can be used to watch movies or experience racing, flight simulation, and other games.

Please note: if you are mainly into Sims then you can use 3DoF mode. However many simmers will recommend having at least 1 Lighthouse due to the ability of lean. Without a lighthouse you cannot lean forward, backwards or left and right.

Thanks Dillon,

But, can you answer my question for me?

Are you able to lean forwards and backwards, then lean left and right with the Crystal Light?

Again, I assume you are using the inside out tracking and not a base station light house...

Wish I had the heads up I'm giving you guys.  Concerning the light houses it's not needed for FS.  What you'll find as far as I'm seeing is you may need to use either of the runtimes depending on the light coming into your room.  For me the PimaxXR runtime works best at night.  Meaning load up the Pimax Client console and go flying.  In the daytime if you start noticing your losing head tracking stability make sure you have OpenXR/Steam installed and used that option (you can access that option in the Pimax Client as well).  Works like a charm (at least for me so far).

More Observations:

1. With the Reverb G2 I had settings configure to overcome the jagged distance views (excess sharpening and resolution adjustments via the OpenXR Toolkit).  This will hurt you with the Pimax Crystal as you don't have to fight the resolution with that headset.  You can lower settings down like sharpening and the resolution doesn't have to be as high.  This will boost your performance and you'll have a better experience.  I just remembered this tonight as I was having problems with head tracking and sim performance.  It didn't make since until I realized in the toolkit I had things optimized for the Reverb.  By all means watch the video I posted here from 'VR Flight Sim Guy'. Those baselines will save you allot of time.

2. I mentioned earlier about the headset being uncomfortable.  Use that top strap along with pulling the rear back like the Pimax setup video suggest and the headset you'll find more comfortable as you find your sweet spot.  I'm ordering modified padding as that will help as well.

Until my next update (if any) stay tuned...🧐

Looks like the 'Edit' button is gone.  Answering this, yes you can lean anyway you like without issue just like with the Reverb (no station bases needed). 🍺

Another observation:

Looks like performance is better in the sim using PimaxXR's runtime versus OpenXR/SteamVR's runtime.  There's absolutely no suttering over the ground as is the case with Steam which was is go to option when head tracking becomes a problem during daylight into my room.🧐

The problem is the MSFS boots up in theater mode and not in VR.

Any idea if there is a way to use a mouse in steam vr?

Head Tracking issues seems to be sorted for the most part with this tool (I'm sure I'll find something else down the road):

QuadViews Companion:

For now I'm using 'Give Me FPS' in this utility.  Now the only thing that's causing head tacking slippage in VR is excessive clouds which I can live with for now.

There's an option to link to this tool in PimaxXR and it helps with performance.🍺

After playing with SteamVR, the PimaxXR runtime is the way to go with this headset.  That's where QuadViews comes into play to further refine the settings (the tool I believe was meant for DCS).  This is something the community will have to play with to find the best settings for MSFS.  Also hopefully Pimax can do some for MSFS specific work with their runtime where QuadViews will no longer be needed.

Have you had any issues with the IPD adjuster on your headset? Mines is very intermittent and only works at a guess around 20% of the time.
