How to reliably avoid W11 24H2 update and continue to use the G2 with WMR, but keep critical security update?

I think 24H2 starts to deploy in 3 days!

Ok I'm going to try first one of the methods explained Here

I ran tests to try blocking feature updates when I first heard about this.  Ran a few tests at work and at home on Windows 11 (Local Policy, Windows settings, registry settings, etc).  Somehow the update got through, sometimes not right away but eventually it did.😣  Gave up and bought a Pimax Cystal Light, never looked back.🍺

thanks for that link. as a further precaution I have made and will continue to create image backups of my Windows drive (Macrium Reflect - https://www.macrium.com/ ) while I'm still running the current windows version with WMR support.

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

That's not a current option for me as my computer has too low specs for a Crystal Light (and probably also for MSFS2024).

I'll have a look to the Crystal with my next rig probably.

I will also download the W11 23H2 ISO right now.

I've read that preventing a feature update install, such as 24H2, is as easy as disabling the automatic feature update option that's found on the Windows Update app.  Supposedly one can hold off a feature update install for one year by using this setting.  Regardless of this option's setting, security updates will still automatically install.  I'd imagine that if one uses this disabling method you'd have to be extra vigilant in what Windows asks you to install, but (disclaimer) as a G2 owning win 10 user this is something I'm not worried about (yet).

Edit: of course I might be wrong here for I haven't ever tried it.  I'll find out soon using my win 11 laptop.

InControl allows you to take control of Windows updates, especially Feature Updates, Windows 10 to 11 updates, or any Windows update that installs without your consent. Developed by Gibson Research Corporation, the author of Never10, and many other popular security utilities.

InControl is free, portable, and simple to use.

Once you run InControl, you will be notified if you have control of Windows Updates.

Click on Take Control if you don't. You can also restore control by pressing Release Control.

InControl comes from Steve Gibson, a well-known name in the computer and security industry for longer than MajorGeeks has been around. While you can change these settings manually, Steve has simplified the process with this portable app.
