Major update today?

I can't believe how long it is taking to install it.  Started at 10:30am yesterday and its now 8:20am today and its still working on it.  Last night at midnight it was 92% but this morning its only 57%.  I guess 92% was just that one packet 🥵

I have a nice and fast connection but the delay seems to be on the server side.  0.60 MB/S!

MS store trash as usual. No problems with the steam version.

MS store version here. No problems with the store version. ever.

complete re-installations and loss of CONTENT folder contents can easily be avoided, as we have discussed here on avsim so many times.

There's been a few reports of MSFS2020 getting wiped after users removed the Tech Alpha of MSFS24, something similar happens at the end of SU Betas to a select few for some reason.

What's the betting they're people who accepted the default location instead of specifying a different location?  🙄 I believe Microsoft even recommended using a different location for 2020 betas.

Give people power to really test their personality.

The 2024 alpha didn't install in the same folder as 2020.

Also you couldn't select where to install the alpha content.

You could choose the folder where the exe would go if you had that option enabled in MSStore, but there was no directory selection for the Official and Community folders when you got into the actual sim.

This happened to me... because I joined the 2020 beta by accident when I was trying to install the 2024 beta. Easy mistake to make, as 2020 isn't specifically labeled as 2020 in the Xbox app. After realizing my mistake, I opted out of the 2020 beta, but didn't wait long enough for the store to reflect my changes. It kept trying to install a 2GB update over and over, and then I made the mistake of opening 2020 and it continued trying to update itself. By this point 2024 was installed and I was impatient... when I closed out of 2020 (which was still trying to update), it ended up deleting itself. Oops.

With only a month to go, I'm going to keep it uninstalled and spend some time revisiting my Steam backlog. Hard to go back after seeing what is next, especially since 2024 ran a lot smoother than 2020 for me.

You know now that you mentioned it this is exactly what I did.  During the time trying to install the FS2024 Alpha and rebooting the sim I accidentally selected the FS2020 Beta.  I am pretty sure I unselected it but not sure if that is going to matter?

I hope it installs and just works and not in some sort of install doom loop.  Ironically the M$ store no longer shows my FS2020 purchase but when you launch FS2020 it shows that I purchase it and tries to install it.

I will find out in about 3 hours.  If it's still downloading I will abort the install and try something else?

Hopefully this is not some sort of precursor for the FS2024 launch day.  Oh you had the Alpha so you have to do all these crazy steps to get it working!

BTW, I checked the FS2020 file structure or at least everything you can see.  However all it wants to do is update/reinstall.  I see no reason why it should not work.  Must be some odd security issue is my guess?

I had posted a long rambling warning about pitfalls of the alpha being removed automatically also removed 2020 community and official and addonlinker folders. Not true, thankfully. My kids apparently moved the parent folders elsewhere. At least I'm blaming them, LOL.

Have you tried a restart by chance? I remember the 2020 beta mentioning that you may need to reboot for the store to recognize you opted in or out of the beta.

I did a few days ago but same thing...all it wanted to do was install the update which after a grueling 1.5 days finely finished.  I am already missing the 30 minutes from install to first flight in FS2024 already!

MSFS booted up and it looks like all settings held.  My trusty CH Flightstick works as before.  However ironically none of my add ons are working that were in the community folder.  I backed up my original community folder and just deleted the new one it created and replaced it with mine.  At least the scenery in there should be working.  I am going to attempt a reboot and see if that helps.  Never had my community folder be ignored before!

I spent a few hours last night figuring this out and it's a strange one.  I backed up my community folder by renaming it.  When FS2020 reinstalled it built a new community folder right next to my back up renamed folder.  So I deleted the new folder and named my backup folder back to community.  This worked in the past just fine.  However after booting FS2020 a 2nd time it created another community folder deep on my windows drive.

I said okay fine so I attempted to copy my backup community folder to the new one but I get an error message!

Unless someone has an idea on how to remap the community folder it looks like I might have to reinstall it AGAIN!

Originally it was installed on my SSD drive or at least the community file was and a few others.  Worked out better that way!

I will try that next.  I should have tried it first.  Looks pretty handy and I am running out of storage.  Would not mind upgrading to a 2TB SSD and using that for all the xtra's.  Of coarse with FS2024 coming it might be some time especially if I delete FS2020 at some point after.
