300, wow. Just curious, what are your pc specs?

Hey Pete, it doesn't seem to make any difference where I set the LOD but 300 is as high as I've gone- performance is about the same.

The same setting in MSFS would be brutal and I couldn't that at 300.

It's like the 2024 is going to do what's its going to do regardless.

Thanks, mate, I shall try that tonight. Btw, love this line "It's like the 2024 is going to do what's its going to do regardless" 😃!

That happens in 2020 though.  When you have that same perspective, you're zoomed into the subject there, distance mountains are visible and look about like that in 2020... at least mine did even with the map enhancement mod

That looks terrible in the distance.

Yeah, distant terrain and mountains have always looked like that. Not sure why we're making that a 2024 thing. I doubt that will improve much with 2024, because to render terrain that far away means rendering in a much larger circle, i.e bigger performance hit. It means downloading terrain miles and miles off in the distant, which requires a lot more bandwidth for both players and the Microsoft servers. So unless it can be done via fetching cached content or something, doubt that will change much.

As for overall sharpness and quality, I am pretty sure that just slowly improved in 2020. People have complained for YEARS about the blurry terrain, slow loading, bad tinting and rendering in a small area. All that improved over the years, as the world updates rolled out, as servers stabilized, as patches got rolled out. Some of the crisp terrain we see now in 2020 was absolutely not a thing back when it launched (Also why the map mod got so popular). People have a short memory but I absolutely remember the many complaint threads about areas we saw in trailers and screenshots looking a lot worse in the sim.

Right now I wouldn't be surprised if they've soft limited bandwidth for each pilot flying, i.e amount of bandwidth allocated while there's extra strain on the servers. Because while my terrain loads fast and looks good, I can see it struggling once you're in drone cam and moving fast. Think we'll just see it all slowly improve as the months and years go by, just like 2020.
