Real Life Night Lighting Comparison

That's what the assistance settings are for: Make it an option if you really want. But don't dumb down the sim for everyone.

Unfortunately the people here or the "real simmers" as we like to think, are a very small minority compared to all sales/users.  But sure, I'd love to have more options.

  • Its been like this since the beginning of flight simming.  MS2024 should be better than it is though.

  • 2020 is , imho, more realistic than 2024 in the night lights department....

  • The night flying experience has been an issue since 2020. None of them are close to real life night flying, not close AT ALL.

This night lighting issue is highly subjective. I for one find it decent. On a computer monitor or TV screen it will never match real life!

Really, subjective. How can you find this decent?

I wouldn't think it is a high priority for Microsoft to address considering the lengthy list of more pressing issues to fix.

Should be a priority as it's number one on their list of bugs and supposedly partially fixed!

We're not talking about that - that's a known bug.  We're talking about general night lighting in 2024

I think the general night light is pretty decent though!

Judging by your screenshot and several YT videos I think the night lighting suffers from them using older code as a starting point for 2024 development. The way it looks to me is that every light source in the foreground has the same size and intensity. This creates an unnatural look and feel, as it was the case after the sim update in '2020 where they tried to improve night lighting and initially ended up with a TRON-like environment. I have the feeling that they are using the code from one of the following versions, which were better but not yet the final '2020 version. It took a lot of time and effort for an endless thread on the official forum to always convince them to try harder. Should my impression be correct, that would be a bummer, but maybe in that case they could use existing code from 2020 should it need fixing.

Ah, okay then. But for me though it's all part of the same thing. In the end you have to take off and land somewhere! It's a flight sim after all.

By the way my screen shot is from after the supposed fix. It's not the only default airport like this.

It is now, if you are flying  2024.  😉

I have honestly seen airport lighting that bright in daylight and I’ve had to ask the tower controller to turn it down as it was dazzling.

They have a scalable setting in the tower for the lighting and that level of intensity would be suitable for daylight LVOs. Surely it would be also easy enough in the sim to have an auto/manual intensity setting?

There was a partial fix with the previous update I believe, I just did not see any improvements. Might be wrong though.

Anyway, apologies if I have taken this out of the threads intended context.
