Where is the global shipping traffic?

Featured Replies

Hello Gang!

MSFS 2024 has been out almost three weeks.  I've been using it every day, testing all kinds of different scenarios and settings.  One thing I cannot help notice is the obvious absence of shipping traffic.  I have shipping traffic set to the max of 100% in online mode.  I have tested Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Hong Kong, San Juan, areas of real life heavy shipping traffic and nothing appears.  I remember all the fanfare about shipping traffic using real-time routing from the shipping equivalent of FlightRadar24 and even collaboration with the GAIST team to produce this feature.......any ideas what happened to this?

Sincerely,

Dennis D. Müllert

I think it all got stuck in Paris trying to take a shortcut down the Seine.

Moderator. Christopher is using humour where a lot of people won't understand and then get upset or angry.

I petition to add the word "humour" to the avsim profanity filter.  🥳

I've seen it alright and once I did it was turned off. It's as janky as it gets and almost all the ships look like the Cutty Sark. Never seen so many tall sailing ships. All identicle. Normal modern ships were rare and when they made an appearance were parked in totally stupid places. Half onshore, half off. It was a total immersion killer.

That said, there wasn't any where I would expect to see it such as one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world like the English Channel. But then I would find 5 massive identicle tall sailing ships crammed on top of one another in tiny harbours.

I think it fair to say that it doesn't work and when it pretends to work it looks absurd.

Did they move it to the MS2025 ship simulator?

SAR Pilot. Flight Sim'ing since the beginning.

The new ship models have a very short render range, you have to be a lot closer to them to render compared to the old models

Also for some reason their cfg file has a lot of them at like 3 KM long. maybe that’s related related

If you turn on nameplates in the user interface options the ships will be labelled

I haven’t seen any real convincing shipping traffic either, honestly. I flew over places like Singapore and Rotterdam hoping for busy ports but it was just empty water or weird clusters of identical ships like you said. Felt really off, especially when you know there should be tons of container ships and tankers there. I pretty much turned off shipping traffic as well since it kept breaking the immersion for me.

Dang me! I thought I was being dumb and doing something wrong. So I gave up on ships.

I feel better now I'm not alone. 😀

I get loads of ships going in and out of Southampton water even got the little hovercraft going back and forth between southsea and the IOW.

Grab Global Ai Shipping traffic off flightsim.to for some more model variety.
