MSFS2024 / ASFS / RealTurb question

Featured Replies

Hello Gang!

Today, I picked up a copy of RealTurb and a copy of ActiveSky FS to try with MSFS2024.  ActiveSky installed and everything worked automatically.  My question is.........are there any ASFS settings the super users recommend to use with MSFS2024?  I noticed that with ASFS connected to FS2024 one of them is injecting the weather but not sure which.  Clouds seem be coming from ASFS since they look a lot better than the default, but no idea.  With RealTurb, how does it interact with FS2024 and ASFS?  I could not find any setup instructions.

Any insights or help is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Dennis D. Müllert

Same as with MSFS 2020 for me:

1) MSFS turbulence to LOW
2) ASFS turbulence to realistic-default (check the default values given there)
3) RealTurb to everything minimum except for terrain turb on 100 (because neither MSFS nor ASFS does have that)

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Thank you for your reply.  Understood.  Does RealTurb and ASFS start automatically when 2024 launches or does that require some sort of configuration?  Thanks again!

@Fiorentini's recommendation of setting Turbulence effects to Low in FS 2024 is something I have to try.

I've been using it at Medium, but coupled with RealTurb it sometimes gets overdone.

Will give "Low" in FS 2024 settings a try !

How do I find RealTurb to change the settings..................I know where it is located on my hard drive, but have not seen an app or anything that allows me to change settings?

EDIT - just found the icon in my hidden tray

It should be in your icon tray, right click on it and select settings.

I switch between active and passive mode (Wx control => sim depiction mode). In passive mode, you'll get MSFS clouds + AS "active air effects" (e.g. turbulence). I'm currently flying over Europe with passive mode and everything looks quite impressive (and accurate according to METARs).

As for the settings, I've left everything at default except smoothing rate is set to 20 (simulator depiction options => depiction smoothing rate). With this setting, transitions are less abrupt (in active mode).

RealTurb: I'm using default settings with the sound effects off. RT provides more accurate clear-air turbulence (turbulence outside of clouds), in-cloud turbulence (which is pretty much non-existent both with default weather and AS) + near-ground (mechanical) turbulence.

I've got MSFS turbulence set to realistic.

Yes, it auto-starts by default with the sim.

I've just bought RealTurb, pls can you clarify why "minimum" settings are better than the default? By minimum, do you mean cloud and enroute turbulence set to 20% and the rest a default?

I just made a video on AS+RealTurb settings which might be useful.

Do you think leaving Realturb settings at default interferes with what AS is doing turbulence wise?  Perhaps Damien could chip in with suggestions on how AS/Realturb settings overlap and how best to have the settings in each?

Yes. It's because ASFS already gives enroute and cloud turbulence, so you don't want to double that with RealTurb

Most likely they will overlap when one says "no turbulence" and the other says "turbulence", so you'll end up with a lot more turbulence than actually realistic. Not sure what happens if both say "turbulence", but I don't really see why I would need anything additional to ASFS's realistic turbulence.

I’ve not noticed much cloud turbulence with ASFS.

Check your turbulence settings. I have a lot of cloud turbulence in appropriate conditions (cumulus clouds etc.).
You can also check the debug tab, it will always show when ASFS injects clouds turublence
