What's the consensus about World Updates? Disable or not?

Featured Replies

Hello,
All the previous content from MSFS is enabled by default in “My library”, but I was reading in this post that apparently WUs can be in conflict with FS2024 specific handcrafted areas.

So what should we do with World Updates (and also aircraft)?

Thanks!

I disabled all the ones I don’t fly in…

So, I have only the North American and Caribbean WU enabled.

But, that’s a hold over on 2020 for saving disk space and it did improve start up times in 2020, also.

Since the World Updates often give a much improved scenery, I wouldn't deactivate it. If you encounter problems in a certain area, you can still deactivate.

That's what I was afraid of... it's a case-by-case scenario, what a mess!

Nonsense, really.

Not really. If I have to experiment issues before knowing whether I have to disable a default Asobo package or not, it's a mess. As you know, it's not something that can be done on the fly: you have to exit the sim (kill the task if you were on the A320), restart the sim, re-enter the FP, etc.

For example, have you noticed the dangerous slopes and "steps" on the taxiways that you have to cross at LFPG to reach the runways? I wonder if disabling the Asobo package solves the issue, I will try.

I disabled every 2020 world update from my library, including the handcrafted airports. I compared the before and after at those airports, and saw no difference. Don't quote me, but I think 2024 by itself contains all the scenery needed. My reasoning is that not everyone had 2020, so those updates wouldn't have been claimed in their library. Anybody ever see the Cliffs of Dover hovering in mid-air? Disabling the 2020 UK updates fixed that for me.

Thank you, makes sense. So they should have been disabled by default. Another sign of Asobo's shabbiness.

The Cliffs of Dover have always been fine here down to the sea but I've just noticed that the tops are higher than surrounding roads.

I have all World Scenery enabled and up to now haven't seen a problem.

Now to deselect UK
