it really shows how any story, no matter how potentially earth shattering, can just get lost in the media's cycle of crazy...

A sensational story will make the front page. If it turns out to be less that factual, the retraction will take up one column-inch on the bottom of page 8.

Since we haven't heard anything at all (NewsNation would certainly report it, right?) it fits the pattern of a sensational story intended as a distraction that simply disappears when the distraction is no longer needed. This is, of course, deep into conspiracy territory.

There may have been reasons the story became too awkward to report. It may be as simple as they didn't want to admit they were taken in by a hoax, and no one else cared to report about it. Google Fiji Mermaid.

Good grief! People are concentrating hard on his "credentials." If he's just saying what he's been told to say, those credentials don't  really matter except to give him "credibility", and he won't get in trouble. If what he is saying is Truth, then he probably blew his security clearance and left himself open to prison time.

I ignored Lazar, I ignored Grusch, I'll ignore this guy. Anyone familiar with Richard Doty? I mean... Lazar? I was designing better spacecraft when I was 12 years old.

Now excuse me, I've got some good science fiction to go read. Currently reading Heinlein.

And what would be the motive ?

Meaningless credentials seem to be a big part of all these ‘witnesses’ and ‘experts’.

What exactly does ‘top tier’ mean? No mention of rank or unit just the usual vague muttering about ‘special forces’ and ‘secret stuff’.

My personal conspiracy theory: ten years ago a bunch of janitors at Fort Bragg got together;

”Listen guys, people are very gullible for this stuff. Hollywood has already done the leg work for us. Get writing, fame and fortune awaits us.”

”Sure thing chief. By the way, I’ve run out of bleach for the latrines in block four again…”

I see you're familiar with the UFO literature. 😄

This is probably truer than some people would like to believe.

A motive for saying what he's been told to say by the government if it's not true? Oh, I dunno... often it's money. Or maybe duty to his country. He probably isn't privy to the government's actual reasoning.

Why would the government select this guy, train him, give him acting lessons (maybe), give him "evidence", etc? Usually it's to create a distraction. From what?  I don't know. The distraction is working.

From 1947, "Its a weather balloon." Yeah, it was a balloon alright, but it was a secret program to monitor nuclear detonations made by nations other than the US. A distraction from the truth. Other distractions are meant to keep you from noticing something else.

Would you risk your security clearance and possible jail time to publish this kind of story?  I certainly would not. Especially with the incoming administration promising transparency in the matter.

Now, I have no idea what's actually going on. But I've been smelling ox droppings for a while and it's getting irritating. And to be honest, I want to believe! What I see is pushing me away from that.

I guess the next question is what is it you want to believe?... And how do you expect that information to be presented to you?

And here I thought "I want to believe" had universal meaning in the UFO community.

I guess another thing I want to believe is that we're being told the truth.

If Jon B tells us he's seen something in the sky that can't be explained, I'll believe him 100%. I've heard credible reports from a few people. I've also heard somewhat less credible reports. We'll see how credible this story is as it develops, as right now it has a bit of an aroma.

That's the problem. There are several different levels of 'truths' that are floating around.

1) There are things in the sky we can't explain that do not have a prosaic explanation.  (Avi Loeb hangs out here)

2) There are things in the sky, some of which have crashed that appear to be non human AND Non-human bodies have been recovered.

3) 1 + 2 AND we can't reverse engineer the technology because it's too advanced and/or the secrecy prevents the scientific collaboration necessary to make progress. (David Grush's testimony stopped around this point)

4) 1 + 2 AND reverse engineering has been partially successful and  produced a few modern technological advances. (see Col. Philip Corso's testimony in the book "The Day After Roswell")

5) Reverse engineering has been very successful and there are black projects operating human-made RV's (reproduction vehicles).  Steven Greer's message mainly stays at this level, and involves some of #7 below)

6) 3, 4 or 5 AND agreements have been made between government(s) and ET species.

7) Any of the above, and psychic connections are involved with both the craft and their occupants.

..... There are about 10 more levels after that.

Often, believing you're being told the truth has more to do with the kind of information you're hearing. Anything past the level you're willing to accept sounds crazy. I'm not saying that's the case here, but that's why I asked.

In the last year, some of the whistleblowers (with verified credentials) have already pushed past #7.

This is a reaction to critics saying for years that none of the thousands of witnesses were reliable or credible.

Now there is a focus on current and former high level government (and military) individuals coming forward with their accounts. The focus is on their credentials, since the call has been for more credible whistleblowers. A former TSSCI-cleared government employee is more credible than a farmer from Ohio.

You can't have it both ways.

'Top tier' refers refers to the term 'Tier 1 operator', which in turn means Green Berets, Delta Force etc. These are high-reliability positions, where personnel are required to take frequent lie detector tests, drug tests etc. They are the first ones called out to respond when bad things happen in inconvenient places. If you do more than a cursory look, you will (often) find their exact credentials, positions held etc.

Hope this helps.

I've been interested in UFOs since I was about 10 years old.  I've read literally dozens of books on the subject over they years.

There's no question that many credible people have seen something in the skies that they couldn't identify, to include pilots, police, military, etc.

I personally believe that there are other advanced civilizations in this galaxy, let alone the universe.  Having said that, it is entirely possible that what all these folks have seen are no more than satellites, weather balloons, man-made conventional and experimental aircraft, planets and stars, or weather phenomenon.

There are also some negative aspects to the UFO phenomenon which involve hoaxes and fraud, the scope of which is usually to make money, and we must always be aware of that.

Not really. There's absolutely no reason why an Oaklahoma farmer should be any less trustworthy or credible than an airforce General or a 'Special Forces' sergeant.

Whether you're subject to workplace drug testing or polygraph tests has no bearing on how trustworthy or reliable an individual is either.

However, to the layman it does sound very impressive. Remember, 'working with' Special Forces can also involve pushing a broom and applying a little Cillit Bang around the rest room.

It strikes me that there is a distinct lack of reliability or trustworthiness around many of the people involved in propagating these claims. They do however seem to have made a decent living by pushing these claims....
