To change or not to change?

With the end of W10 approaching, there are options available to change to a windows look a like Linus OS.

I know nothing about LInux, what would be the problems  of transferring/installing P3D and all the accompanying programs on Linux?

Is it a viable proposition, being free after all?

Anyone tried it?

Why not upgrade to Win11?  its free to upgrade from win10-11.  Lunix will just be a new can of worms. I doubt it will be hassel free.

I've owned every version of flight simulator since Flight Simulator 3.0 in 1988.

Windows 11 Pro loaded on a 4TB Gen5 Crucial T700 SSD, 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD, Ryzen 9 7950x3d, AS Rock X670e Taichi Motherboard, Gigabyte Gaming RTX 4090 OC 24GB, 64GB (2x32GB) Viper Venom  DDR5-6000MT/s, MSI 32" MAG 321UPX QD-OLED 260hz 4K Gaming Monitor.

Just keep using w10, I got win11 and still I need to strip it down to core and never update (only manually install critical safety patch) to keep is at least "usable"

I'd also like to go Linux but too less information regarding flight sims, I have posted this but not much reaction.

That is the other option. Do we really need any further updates, W10 is quite stable now and private PCs are extremely unlikely to be subject to any attack caused by new flaws in the OS.

There workarounds YouTube to install on a not compatible PC.

I have not used my sim for a while, other things get in the way. But I just fired up V6 again to check out things are ok.

Shots of KMEM in V6.

What does "PC not compatible" mean? For example, my PC is also not compatible with Win11, but this can be solved very simply (or difficultly) - I need to change Legacy to UEFI in the BIOS. Then cleanly install Win10 and update to Win11. I do not dare to do this only because I will need to reinstall a lot of software products. This procedure will take me several days and this is a nightmare for me. But it can be solved...

Google 'flyby11' .  This utility will update your OS to windows 11 on non-compatible pc's.

Used this several times, works perfect and very easy to use. It will run fine on your 6700K

It means what it says. I would have to use a "hack" to update it as the processor is too old. I also do not want all the hassle of re-installing.

Does it remove everything and you have to reload all software. Or,does it just replace the OS.

It will just update the OS. No data will be removed.

Finally got round to trying this.

It failed and reverted back to W10.
