March 16, 20251 yr Rescue at long last. March 18, 20251 yr It is bizarre how the media portraid those two as being 'Stranded' When you are an astronaut you spend your entire life training to be in space, anytime that you are in space that is exactly where you want to be, just like a Chef in a Kitchen is not stranded, again where they are supposed to be. March 18, 20251 yr The chef went in to work a normal shift but there was a cave-in and no one tried to get him out for 8 months. Anyone still want to be an astronaut? 🙂 Hook PS. I guess I should expand on this a little. When the space shuttle blew up, people were saying "How horrible, how horrible!" I'd ask them if there were another shuttle going up next week and they were given a chance to go on it, would they go? Their face would go blank, they'd stare off into the distance for a while, and no one said no. Butch and Suni get back after an enforced extended stay in space. People say, "Yeah, so? Isn't that their job?" I'll ask if you want to go spend a week at the space station. The launch vehicle is a Boeing. Think you might wanna go for it? For myself, I think I'll just watch it on TV. This is what people missed out on, those Astronauts got into that capsule knowing that plan B was going to be months in space, Plan B was never a stranding, it was Plan B. They ended up with Plan B which for them is the better outcome. To be an astronaut you train your entire life to be in space, to end up with Plan B means more time in space, that is what they were born to do. Anyone sees this scenario with these astronauts as being stranded, that is the difference between you and an astronaut As for the Chef, they are Workaholics, if they were to ever be 'stranded' in a kitchen they wouldn't even know it, because they are always there anyways. 🤣 Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

March 20, 20251 yr Don't know why they keep saying, rescue. It was a scheduled Dragon flight. If required, for instance an emergency, they could have been brought home any time. Stranded is media and politics nonsense. https://www.yahoo.com/news/nasa-defends-decisions-astronauts-says-222400996.html Edited March 20, 20251 yr by martin-w

We heard that SpaceX offered to mount a mission to return the astronauts but was refused by the administration. Some months later I saw Musk talking about it in an interview. The only "politics" involved at the time seemed to be that they didn't want to embarrass Boeing. We really know very little and the current politics have gone so far off the rails that we may never get a definitive answer. There was always a Soyuz vehicle to be used for emergency returns. This wasn't really an emergency, and using the Soyuz had its own political problems. Was it ever really a problem? Matthew Kane is probably right, that the astronauts themselves considered this 9 months worth of Christmas mornings. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! NASA officials said safety, budget concerns about a separate mission to retrieve the astronauts and a desire to keep a crew on the space station were the reasons.
