I agree. In 2020 I used ReShade for a while, then nvidia filters, then REX Atmos. In 2024 I've briefly tried nvidia filters, but I prefer how the sim looks "unfiltered" 🙂

2024 has a better light model, so no filters are needed - would be better to fix monitor calibration and remove any NV/Windows colour changes.

The screenshot on the right looks a lot more realistic, so thank you for admitting your mistake. I look forward to seeing the updated video.....and the MSFS 2024 champions commenting on it

The lighting in MSFS 2020 is generally OK for me, but I would really love to fix the deep red horizon at dawn and dusk. That looks unrealistic.

I'm not even sure why people are using filters for MSFS 2024. The default colors look quite good to me for MSFS 2024.

I agree to most of it. I really do not want to use filters, but I find that many times, all colors are washed out by the brightness of the screen, especially on late afternoons when the sun is low.

All I wanted was to lower the brightness a bit just as it is in MSFS 2020. But I know that many people love the increased brightness in 2024. To each their own I guess 😊

Have you tried using the Brightness slider in the Nvidia control panel?   Not ideal but it might help.

You couldn't do that without changing other colours - this is what 2024 fixes.

In your humble opinion (cough cough).  I find the VC to be dull and too dark w/o the GFE filter in both 202 and 2024 which I use always which largely selectively brightens up the VC in all planes wonderfully while having little impact on external views.  I hoped this improved in 2024 but it's really about the same as in 2020.

Except that in the real world, you can wear sunglasses and the colours are even enhanced that way, not washed out. Not something I care to do in the sim, and even if I did wear sunglasses, the colours would still be washed out.

That defense of the washed out color and over bright appearance in 2024 doesn’t make sense. In the real world your pupils constrict to adjust to brightness so that the world doesn’t appear too bright, and you can put on sunglasses in extremely bright conditions. Same problem in 2020 in some conditions but not as pronounced.

Yes, and?

I am having some difficulty understanding your point when talking about colours on a monitor.

What happens in 2024 doesn't make sense when it happens in the real world?

For your pupils to do that, your monitor would need to produce thousands more nits of brightness.

Your monitor doesn't give out extremely bright conditions.

The video I posted yesterday is not entirely accurate as far as the colours are concerned. A while back, I had added a filter with the Nvidia app and I forgot about it. When I removed the filter, the colours are significantly different and actually look more realistic in my opinion in MSFS 2024, especially the greens.
Here a screenshot that shows the difference. I will need to redo my previous video without the filters.

Sorry about that 😳

MSFS 2020 looks better now than MSFS 2024 which is over-saturated out of the box…. Too much Polaroid look.

With NV filters this can be corrected.

I know you will go to any extreme to defend 2024 but you totally miss the point. Your pupils OBVIOUSLY don’t adjust to the brightness put out by 2024 on a monitor, but they DO adjust when you are out in the real world in bright conditions. In conclusion the washed out brightness in 2024 is not what you see out in the real world. Simple, understand now?

I always thought that 2024 looked somewhat cartoonish (polaroid) compared to 2020. You could be right, it’s perhaps over-saturation causing that. Good for future reference (when someday I reinstall it) to know that can be corrected with the filters. Thanks

No, because in the real world, colours get washed out in bright sunshine which is the first point I made.  Do as you first suggested and look towards the bright sunshine at dawn or dusk - your eyes cannot adjust enough to compensate for such brightness - the colours will be 'washed out'.
