ATR 72-600

Featured Replies

I flew the plan (above) with no real problems. A few questions though:

1) Around the time of the problems, were the throttles behaving correctly?
2) What throttle power management mode were you in (TO/MCT/CLB/CRS)?
3) Does the A/P disconnect when this happens?

Maybe you're getting some spurious control inputs. This is my setting:

First off, let's get you into the correct forum for asking questions!  The Tips & Tricks Forum ain't  the right place.  Now you are in the correct forum.

  • Is your AP still connected when it goes off course? Sometimes with your joystick If there is erratic feedback it  can disconnect the AP. Check it's behaviour in your windows control panel.

    Here's another possibility:

I only have Turtle beach Velocity One Flightstick but I will check that setting. One thing I was wondering,  stepping into each leg on the MCDU there is something called Overfly Yes or No. Should I be changing that?

Just tried again and it was going well, then for no reason AP shut of and down we went. I think I need to see if something on the joystick is causing it

Minorly relevant, but hopefully this will give you guys a chuckle, but I had something similar happening when I first got the Comanche.  I eventually realized I was only turning the fuel switches on to the tip tanks 😂

Any small movement of the joystick/yoke will shut off AP. There is a setting in the EFB to reduce the sensitivity required for that to happen. Operation outside of normal parameters such as over or under speed will shut off AP.

Now I am confused. Once again, everything going well, following the flight path perfectly, I kept my eye on everything, making sure no increases or decreases in speed, then for no reason as I got past FOYLE it veered off the flight path, started to begin what looked like a complete about turn and started to lose height, AP was still on???? Think I'm going to abandon the ATR

I don't see FOYLE in the Simbrief plan you showed earlier. Is this a new/different flight plan? If so, could you paste the route (string) here?

Maybe a daft question, but are you sure there were no discontinuities in the flight plan?

Thanks! I've just flown that route with no problems (in 2024). So ... a few more questions:

1) Where you in cruise? What altitude?
2) Was your engine power management dial set to "CRZ"?
3) Does this disconnect always happen at the same point in the route - or is it random?

I see GOW (Glasgow) is the next waypoint. Do you have any scenery addons enabled for Glasgow (EGPF)? Maybe there's an invisible object you're crashing into - or there may be some other issue with that addon as it gets loaded.

Failing that, I'm out of ideas!

Yes set to cruise on reaching set altitude of 12500 feet. This is the odd thing, it is in random places, this was the furthest point I had reached. I do have EGPF Airport by pyreegue. I know what you mean about running out of ideas. I'm going to try the same route using different aircraft

How's about the same aircraft but a different route?

Another thought ... do you use FSUIPC at all? One of its options is the ability to disconnect trim when autopilot is engaged. I run FSUIPC by default as I'm part way through a long NeoFly career - and Neofly needs FSUIPC to run. That might explain why I can't reproduce these disconnects, but it could also be scenery [bug] related.

I've been working with the ATR as a change of pace myself, I fly west coast US, so far it follows the plans without issue, but gotta say this plane does have a lot of quirks, it's easy to miss something. Don't give up on it, it's a cool plane once everything works.

On a slightly off-topic, but related matter, if you haven't checked it out, the 2024 Marketplace has a replacement cockpit for 1.99 🙂 plus some cargo liveries. I bought both and I really like the cockpit, definitely worth the money with the sale, don't miss it!

100% agree! Definitely worth persevering!

For those who suffer from mid flight freezes, make sure that you fill the FMC POS INIT page before entering a route.

1. Click GPS POS. Now, INIT POS will be populated and highlighted in yellow.

2. Click SENSORS INIT and the colour will change from yellow to green.
