MSFS 2024: Test Every Setting for FPS, CPU & GPU

Bumped into this and thought some out there might find it useful.

Thsi was actually very useful as impact was clearly seen.. although i dont struggle with Vram issues, it does help for sure

This video convinces me to use high setting for trees.

The problem with this type of test is that some settings can have a greater impact in one scenario versus another. For example the tree quality will affect performance very little in this scenario, but if you are flying just above a dense forest, especially at low altitude, it will have a very significant impact. Same with the cloud settings in this video where there were very few clouds in view. If the test was done while flying between layers in dense overcast, the impact would likely have been much greater. I am not saying the test is not helpful, but you should also consider the impact of your settings will vary under different scenarios and flight conditions.

The issues I have with this testing:

1.  Same static view, no 360 pan internal or external to load in all the scenery objects/textures (very important for texture and LOD adjustments).

2.  No actual flight was done in each test so you don’t really see how it would be in a normal end user situation.

3.  Having variable weather and AI traffic influences performance and RAM/VRAM and is not the exact same for each test.

Certainly appreciate the work put into it, but it needs a more controlled environment for each test.  Also for visual reference/difference some of those tests need to be zoomed in (like the TAA, SSAA, DLSS, etc.).  DLSS visual quality will vary based on subject motion and view movement.

Isn't it SimIslandPilot?  I took a few bum steers off him before, and he had a few disagreements on here over his 'findings'.  Some his info can be worthwhile from time to time.

@History  Yes, I recognised turning down trees was worthwhile right from launch last year when I was trying to improve performance.  I never noticed any difference visually.
similar to using 6144 for shadows in the usrcfg file.  I don't notice the visual difference between that and raytraced shadows in the cockpit (the only area where they apply anyway), but I notice the performance benefit of not having them turned on - well at least with my old setup.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

It doesn't really matter who the maker is.

I'm taking a guess that you believe he is an expert on said subject matter...

That's what most YouTubers want us to believe.

Indeed, you really don’t know who is. If you knew you would not write such nnsns…

I've been following islandsimpilot for a few months now, and have found his videos very helpful.

How to set up frame gen on a 3080 ( like his ) doubled my framerate.  Others as well.

A lot better than most YouTubers out there.

Off screen pre caching set to low, it gives me 30% less VRAM and no side effects whatsoever, at least not that noticeable.
