nvidia smooth motion for vr

Featured Replies

Well, tried the smooth motion thing and it was indeed smooth... but alas the ghosting on the speed tape in the Fenix was not tolerable for me so back to TAA mode...

I was using DLAA mode and it was very clear all around and in the cockpit except for the speed tape...

OK, so I finally got round to trying this. It absolutely does make a difference in VR. It's smoother. I'm trying to decide if I like it though. I didn't have long to evaluate. I think there might be more smear as I pan my head but I need to spend more time comparing.

That was it. Thanks turbomax!

It turns out, there was more to the story. Of course, frame gen must be off for smooth motion to work. But, frame gen and overclocking of my 5090 was not the culprit...

It turns out that running TechPowerUp GPU-Z along with MSFS_AutoFPS BEFORE starting MSFS 2024, is the real reason FS24 CTD with Smooth Motion ON.

I tested this several times, and if I start GPU-Z and MSFS_AutoFPS before starting FS2024, it will CTD with Smooth Motion ON.

If I do NOT start GPU-Z and MSFS_AutoFPS before FS2024, it does NOT CTD with Smooth Motion ON.

Interestingly enough, once FS24 boots up OK and I spawn into an airport, I can start GPU-Z and MSFS_AutoFPS without issue.

Is this working with WMR, HP G2, W11 23H2?, I tried in NvidiaInspector and smooth motion setting in on, and HAGS off/on, and nothing, I didn,t note a difference. I am with a 50XX card and a X3D CPU, and last Nvidia Driver, and DLSS 4.5 in Quality, without Nvidia App installed, and not fps limiters.

Yes, it is working with the Nvidia App, though in my case it works bad with fps limiters, and FS24 (OpenXR toolkit also I think) foveated methods, and the FS24 foveated isn´t well implemented still for its CPU charge and I didn´t use it anyway, compared to the Toolkik one.

Smooth Motion has more or less the same performance or a bit more, in feelings haha, like with toolkit and foveated wide/quality settings, and stutters from time to time in the same way, though the Nvidia App performance overlay says ~100fps, I usually flown already at 60fps so 100 it is less noticeable the difference sure.

Anyway, testing yesterday and already with the 25H2 and Oasis, the best for me in smooth..., is Nvidia Smooth Motion off and only the OpenXR Toolkit with foveated in wide-quality still. Maybe in a future Smooth Motion and FS24 foveated improves, I hope.
