NEW FSX. 4 Boeing 737-800 X2 Aircraft

I'm activated now :) and to be fair to Ariane, it was within the 48 hours they claim it may take, even on a Sunday. Upgraded my ATI 3870 to a 4890 OC yesterday and i'm sat in the vc with the 737's systems active at EGCC with 44FPS with sliders to the right. So far I'm quite impressed with the plane.

to tell someone to keep their comments to themselves ? ye what ? this is a forum dude, it wouldn't exist if people kept their comments to themselves.
John,Please read Bob's post. He was really way out of line. Comments in conflict with the forum policies should not be posted. You know that. You got to show people respect. You know that.Bob has now successfully pushed some buttons only to provoke David.I've seen this behaviour from another forum member going for Nick Needham. And now you are chiming in. Eager to start a fight, are you? Please show respect to the forum rules. And please let this thread continue unlocked.

this can only be good for other sim users, I'm really pleased, because there should in theory be more return on experience. I say that because I find personnally the user network for this add-on isn't huge and the knowledge base is limited, for those like myself with limited experience I find it difficult to judge if it's me or the add-on if I can't quite manage something correctly. At least those using their forum, you will see the number of posts is relatively small compared to when PMDG MD-11 or the flight1 mustang was released, they generated pages and pages of postes within days.john

you are correctnot eager to start a fight at all.but the attitude behind the scenes has been to push buttons from the beginning, just wish it could remain technical, which hasn't been the case, for whatever reason, there is a history there much longer than this post, I can feel some injustices here in the tone from an established "authority", when you speak against there is a ferocious wave to shoot you down. This it what is behind all this and that pushes buttons for me. with this there should be no surprise why things degenerate.respectfullyJohn

John I don't think there has been any injustice from me since the beginning of this thread.I have said many times that I'll be happy if Ariane has changed their policy and very glad if their product is good. I'll purchase it immediately if there is enough positive feedback from various customers. What is really bothering me with Bob (and that's not a personnal attack) is that he is so entousiastic to defend Ariane that he claims things without prooving them and that can mislead people that could regret once to have followed the enthousiasm of a quite "stubborn" supporter or Ariane's products.I'd rather see some Ariane's representative joining the discussion. If they read this thread, they are warmly welcome.

I think this thread should be locked. I get the feeling that a sockpuppet is participating in this thread .......

I'd rather see some Ariane's representative joining the discussion.
They could be in the discussion already ......

No, I really don't think so.When I speak about a "special link" between Bob and Ariane it's something like a love affair. And we all know that the eyes of love are not always very objective! :-))

Is it just me, or can you not manually input a route into the FMC like you can on the PMDG/Level D/most other advanced add ons? Seems I have to use the FSX Flight planner :( Also currently having problems inserting Gross Weight or ZFW into the FMC, even with FSX paused and using the weights from the FSX load manager with 3 decimal places as the manual says. Any tips for setting the Gross weight up? Does FSX have to be set to US system or can you use hybrid in the General settings (ie lbs/kgs)?Its difficult to to read the manual while using the aircraft when you only have access to one computer, Its secured so you can't print it off.

no David not from you personnally, just the sense that there is some politics about the whole thing - it's clear Ariane don't contribute in the same way as other devs to the community so I guess they can expect flak. I reckon they would accept this flak and understand they have some history to deal with. If it's just that I can understand, but there is perhaps alot of water under the bridge that users are unaware of, because I can think of one other developer & partner distributor who have not being honest with the comminity and very cynical indeed concerning customer support who's critics don't get any support from influencial chaps at avsim. And I have been bitten by them on several occassions. They are on these forums, they don't hide to be fair, but they can't say very much for their own contractual reasons between them. I think Bob's enthusiasm is just that - that's what aviation does.there is a mistrust of Ariane which seems to be justified from days of old (ok maybe not so long ago for some to want to forget) but I try to seperate their policies from their aircraft. Once the activation and all is out of the way I reckon it merits to be treated along side other respected products.on a general note, I said this somewhere before in the limited time and few posts I have actually sent, that we sometimes need to recall that this is a global community, with users contributing from vastly diverse cultural and linguistic backrounds, mail is notoriously easy to misinterpret (that said I appreciate fully that some things are intended), things can be written very quickly without necessarily retaining the required level of political correctness, there is also pride at stake, strong personalities behind the keyboard. It takes all sorts, and we see the results.I see here that overall people see the sense of it all and don't hold grudges. That's nice.john

the aircraft is by default overloaded, so you have to unload, for example put all cargo to zero, put centre tank fuel to zero, then calc GW - FW = ZFW and put that in the ZFW in the FMC, the GW will then be correctly calculated.john

wilko81,First of all, did you adjust the load of the aircraft (please forgive me....... like the manual explains?), so it is no longer overloaded?? By default it is filled to the brim with passengers, cargo and fuel which makes the aircraft roughly 15000lbs overweight (at least in the case of the 737-800). I previously stated that the aircraft had to be paused to enter GW into the FMC and that statement was incorrrect, you do not need to pause FSX. Until you adjust the load so that the aircraft is no longer overweight you will continue to get an "INVALID ENTRY" error in the FMC. I will also point out that even though in a previous post I said that you could enter ZFW instead of GW and it appeared to work (although I did not enter ZFW until the overloaded aircraft was taken care of), the manual clear states "DO NOT enter ZFW here".I'm sure that statement was added to the manual for a reason. I've had no problems manually entering a flight plan. The only problem I have had trying to manually enter a flight plan is incomplete/outdated NAVDATA. That is something we will have to live with until there is hopefully an update available. I have not seen a means to switch between US units and Imperial units.

Re Printing manual (FS9):The fs9 version of the Ariane product I bought about 18 months ago did permit a printing of the manual. I printed it out (the better part of 500 pages) and have it here on my desk as I type this. Good manual. I believe the policy was changed after this due to an individual who was printing them out and attempting to sell them. I have the fsx manual on order......the ones available to purchase from a developer are great.....I have the level D one - money well spent. Also, Bob, if you get silenced, don't sweat it. Your info was honest and accurate. And, you remained polite and courteous when it has been suggested you were lying and also on the Ariane payroll. I know it can be a challenge.

I initially only adjusted the fuel loads, think that was where I was going wrong. I dropped the cargo weights down to 8000lbs and turned the engines and APU off and connected to a ground power unit, reset my fuel levels and managed to get the values to go into the FMC ok. I'd prefer to work with an external load manager PMDG/Level D style, perhaps something for Ariane to look at in future? Also worked out how to manually enter nav data, its just a little different from all the other aircraft I have, so its just a matter of re-learning it the Ariane way (not actually read that far into the manual, my own fault!). Im cruising at 25000 Feet at the moment with LNAV and VNAV and all is going well so far!I was also originally set to the "Hybrid" setting in the FSX general settings menu (kgs). The manual says the plane works in lbs so make sure flight sim is set to the US system in the FSX general settings.

since you mention VNAV, my difficulty has been trying to determine if my -800X2 correctly follows altitude constraints, or if the navdata available is insufficient, or if I just don't know what I am doing, or combination.for example the FMC seems to accept altitude constraints above and below, for example 3000, 3000A, 3000B etc. but the FMC didn't seem to respect this. Like I said I perhaps don't fully understand the intricate functioning of VNAV, does the speed take priority over altitude or vice versa.what's your feeling on the VNAV ?john

I've not actually tried any altitude constraints, I'm not upto speed on this FMC yet still getting used to it. I took off from EGCC and it climbed to FL250 ok on VNAV and LNAV followed my route to EGLL. But I was too busy reading these forums that I completely missed the top of descent, I was at FL250 and 15 miles from touchdown! Since I'm just about to go out and enjoy whats left of the sun today in a pub beer garden I was determined not to go around so switched autopilot off and nosedived it to 4000ft with the gear and speed brakes extended and managed to get speed and ILS on track within the last mile. It handles pretty well anyway! I'll try something more complicated with VNAV tonight when I get back in, like entering some proper stars/sids.
