Recommended TLOD value at CRZ level over big cities

Featured Replies

Hi!,still investigating my VRAM leak issue, but I kindly request info to know what TLOD are you using at high level altitudes over big cities.

Over the islands I can set TLOD400 without any problems….but over big cities I found that TLOD250 is the limit to prevent VRAM leak.

FS2024,9959X3D,64MBRAM,5080.

Very curious to know your TLOD setting on cruise and your system specs…

Thanks!

I've got mine, TLOD and LOD, fixed at 75, in sim settings, FS 2024.

Flightsimming since 1992

Im sorry none of this discussion makes any sense without first stating what resolution you are running your sim at.

I’m sorry obviously FS2024, at 3440x1440 full screen.

I use AutoFPS so it varies. In full Auto setting it goes not up further than 200 in IFR mode, in expert mode I can get up to 700 depending on the circumstances.

I have used DynamicLODReset in the past but found since making peace with NV DLSS FG I can just leave it at TLOD 200 and OLOD 100 on the ground and up to cruise and call it good.  When I sit and look out at mountainous scenery the difference between 200 and 400 is just too subtle so I leave it at 200 and so pickup some CPU headroom for essentially no visual penalty.  I enjoy exquisite sharpness, smooth animation and freedom from artifacts all at 60FPS-fg at a minimum on up to 120+.

Aircraft used in MSFS 2024:  Fenix A320,  Aerosoft CRJ, FBW, WT 787X, I-Fly 737 MAX 8, Citation Longitude.

Specs in Sig. + Smart Access Memory is off (VRAM hog for MSFS2024)

I do not run addon airports. However i do have the premium deluxe version so a fair number of major metropolitan airports are deluxe versions.

I download all the base content, world and city updates.

My addons are PMDG 777's+ Boris soundset,  Fenix A32X, the Starship and the comanche. (all liveries are in 4k) + AIG and BIjans for the photogrammetry clean up.

Graphics settings, Ultra + TAA + TLOD 275

I lock my frames to 40 and use framegen (Fluid motion frames)  to get 80fps with no stutters to speak of.

Any higher than 275 i will end up with stutters at the large airports so i set it as high as i can get away with.

I will say that if i load the 777 at lets say KJFK i will get the very occasional GPU warning at the very start of my flight when the aircraft is loading up. but my system does not have major stutters when the VRAM is reported to be used up to capacity and the vram lowers itself very quickly after that initial load to a manageable level.

The singular thing that freed up a lot of VRAM for me was turning off smart access memory. I was resistant to that idea initially but i tried it and it works so...cant complain.

I will still however upgrade my gpu when a card with more VRAM becomes available. I dont really like living so close to the VRAM limits.

200 max TLOD, usually.

Above a certain altitude, usually a few thousand ft, AutoFPS sets my TLOD at 400 in IFR mode and I have zero stutters (with SU4 beta), regardless of how big the city is or if it has PG.

The reason why you fill up your VRAM is probably because of textures set to Ultra. I have them set to high and I never see the pop up. I play at 3440x1440.

At 4K you may have to sacrifice other settings.
