A2A updates incoming

I guess everyone needs to decide if their principles permit them to pay for an upgrade and it is optional after all. I flew the Comanche today for the first time in months. If the upgrade was just to make it 2024 'native' then I'm not sure I would be interested but it sounds like a lot more than that so I'm prepared to pay.

For me, it is more the principle than the cost.
If people are doing significantly extra work, then like you, I don't mind paying a reasonable fee for it, but I do wonder how they justify the cost when the plane is perfectly flyable in 24 already.

Customer Support when moving from 20 to 24 seems to be a lot better with say, Just Flight, doesn't it, and not just because they don't charge for the 'upgrade' fee.

Yes, it's principle with me too. I fully support a developer's right to charge for MS20-to-MS24 upgrades, and when you get to A2A's level of quality and customer service, it's almost a pleasure to do so. Just Flight is also a top-tier developer ( quality and customer service again ), and I am rather surprised their FS24 upgrades have come at no cost. Looking at the change log for the BAe146, and trying to imagine the amount of work involved, I would have gladly paid for the upgrade. I'm not usually given to things like brand loyalty, but going forward, I'll buy just about anything JF produces, and hopefully that will be a return on their investment.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

Your reaction, my reaction, and the reaction of many Just Flight customers to these free updates will bring long-term customer satisfaction, loyalty, and increased purchasing power for the developers.

In my opinion, this is far more valuable than quick profits from upgrade fees – which, besides quickly giving developers the reputation of being insatiable, also carry the very real risk of significant customer dissatisfaction.

Whether you live in one of those countries where even those fifteen dollars is equivalent to two weeks' wages, at Avsim we always forget that there are many different realities 🙂

Well as someone delightfully said on here yesterday, some people apparantly elect not to improve their financial situation.

As we're on the subject, $14.99 is £11.23, which will buy me either an A2A Comanche update, or 2.5 pints in the Warwick Arms in Norwich this evening. I think I can stretch to both.

Not to mention that you'll get far more use out of the A2A update 😉👍

"This will be an optional paid update"

How much more "principled" than that can it possibly get...?

I think you'll get a lot more traction comparing to PMDG's forced 737 upgrade (i.e., it isn't perfectly flyable in v2024).

And to be clear, I don't really mind an upgrade fee to PMDG, either - as long as the amount charged is more "upgrade" than "re-purchase".

Agree!

FWIW, JF have been charging upgrade/re-purchase fees for XP 11 to XP 12, but i'm almost positive that's due to the need to pay their subcontractor, Thranda.

In re their BAe for XP 12, the upgrade was something reasonable like $25 on the original purchase of $70-ish, and it came out GREAT. And even better, the retail price is something like HALF what it is in MSFS!

Sadly though, their Arrows for v12 were re-purchases. But I waited until a Black Friday sale and picked it up for half off. 🙂

Anyhow, Just Flight is clearly investing in customer loyalty, and they've won mine for both sims! Now we just have to convince them to hurry up with converting their Tornado to MSFS 😉

Meh - I disagree.

There's only so many addons I'm willing to purchase. I'd rather pay a bit extra now and again for a favored addon than feel like I "need" to continue purchasing additional addons I don't really want just to "support the dev". The Piper Arrows are Case in Point: I have the Turbo and won't buy any others - ever.

as is the stupendously improved Hawk T1/a v2, where I'd gladly have paid the $15 to them for it.

I am reinstalling MFS again to see if removing the camera shake stops it from jumping around. If so, I will pay for the update without any problem, as I am a big fan of A2A aircraft.
