December 8, 2025Dec 8 Slightly higher frame rates and definitely smoother. I'm pleased, but I was hoping for more. December 9, 2025Dec 9 My first impression of SU4 is not very positive either. For whatever reason, I probably lost a few fps and time to time I got a few jittering/stuttering. No idea why. Seems getting better after I took the same flight a few times, maybe the cache file was being cleared / refilled? Night lighting seems to be nicer. Fixed foveate rendering definitely works now, helped me to gain back lost fps and I could barely tell any difference in image quality. Overall, no too much to say about SU3 -> SU4 in VR, at least for my VR set up. Maybe b/c I exclusively fly GA airplanes, and those fly big airliners may benefit more? 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
December 9, 2025Dec 9 Same here, not really impressed, still quite a bit of small (and sometimes big) stuttering. Not pleasant to play. VR never really worked fine for me in MSFS, not in 2020 and not in 2024 either. Other sims are just smooth, not so for MSFS, don't know why. December 9, 2025Dec 9 Wait for the servers to settle down after everyone's updating then try again later in the week, during beta the performance difference was huge on my old GPU but as ever it deteriorated during the beta. But it was still much better than SU3 at the time of my upgrade, I'd be surprised if it's the same or worse than SU3. December 9, 2025Dec 9 Yup - OK here over the first couple of test flights in the Pimax Crystal Light. I did a short day flight with the splendid Black Square Baron and then the equally splendid day and night flight iFly 737 Max8. I was able to use Foveated Rendering for the first time (used the default 50%) and it made a tangible difference to the sharpness and smoothness. Both flights were smooth on the ground and in the air. Pleasantly surprised so far 🙂 Ryzen 7 9800x3D @5.2GHz; ASUS X670-P Motherboard; nVidia 4080 (factory o/c); 32G 5600MHz DDR5 SDRAM; Pimax Crystal Light VR Headset; Quest 3 VR Headset

December 9, 2025Dec 9 I did notice the ground texture was quite blurry last night, which is not sth I noticed prior to SU4. Hopefully this is just due to MSFS servers are jammed due to heavy traffic for SU4, and things will improve after the peak. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
December 9, 2025Dec 9 You know that they say only change one variable at a time? Well, I had just installed a method of plugging my ethernet cable directly into the hub rather than through a power line (85Mbps changed to 640Mbps!!!) and the next time I booted up MSFS2024 to try it, it updated to SU4. So I don't know exactly which difference of those two events made what proportion of the improvement, but I've just completed a 1hour flight from EGCC Manchester to EGPD Aberdeen in dusk-to-dark in the iniBuilds A340 and running to FSHUD ATC and that was head and shoulders the best VR flight I've had yet - of any sim....beautiful scenery, amazing sharpness of all instruments & displays, and not a single judder of micro stutter anywhere. For completeness, I will at some point repeat the flight with the cable plugged back into the powerline but, for the time being, I'll just enjoy the stunning improvement. Do you mean the ethernet/usb c adaptor method ?
December 10, 2025Dec 10 7 hours ago, solito said: Do you mean the ethernet/usb c adaptor method ? No. Simpler than that. The fibre broadband router is downstairs and the PC is in a spare room upstairs. The house is old with thick brick walls and so wifi boosters don't work. As such, I've been using a decent quality Powerline booster that sends the signal through the house electrical wiring from a sender ethernet connected directly to router and plugged into a nearby house electrical socket to a receiver plugged into an electrical socket near the computer with then a short ethernet cable plugged into the PC. While this works a lot better than a wifi booster, the losses through the house electrical system are massive - 640Mbps at the router drops to 83Mbps at the computer. So I've rigged up a 'hidden' cat8 ethernet cable from the router round the downstair room's skirting and up to the top of the door frame and then, when I'm using the sim, I can trail a temporary second cat8 cable across the landing, and across the downstairs hall ceiling and connect it to other cable. It is around 15metres total but has negligible losses and I'm now getting around 640Mbps at the PC rather than 80. And that has made a BIG difference. Then, when I've finished flying, I disconnect the upstairs cable and put that away and reconnect the PC to the Powerline booster, which is fine for normal use. And MrsAJZip2 remains relatively happy with times when there's a cable across the landing but at least there's no irritating husband getting in the way 😆 Ryzen 7 9800x3D @5.2GHz; ASUS X670-P Motherboard; nVidia 4080 (factory o/c); 32G 5600MHz DDR5 SDRAM; Pimax Crystal Light VR Headset; Quest 3 VR Headset
December 10, 2025Dec 10 Author I have to admit, I'm warming up to this release. The FFR and dynamic TLOD/OLOD enhancements are working quite nicely for me on top of an improved base frame rate and smoothness. Still the odd stutter, but quite tolerable. I can finally use this MS 2024 in VR without getting nauseous! 👍 [email protected] - ROG Strix Z790-E - 2X16Gb G.Skill Trident DDR5 6400 CL32 - MSI RTX 4090 Suprim X - WD SN850X 2 TB M.2 - XPG S70 Blade 2 TB M.2 - MSI A1000G PCIE5 1000 W 80+ Gold PSU - Liam Li 011 Dynamic Razer case - 58" Panasonic TC-58AX800U 4K - Pico 4 VR HMD - WinWing HOTAS Orion2 MAX - ProFlight Pedals - TrackIR 5 - W11 Pro (Passmark:12574, CPU:63110-Single:4785, GPU:50688)
