December 22, 2025Dec 22 Hello, MSFS set FG to 2 by default. I'm just curious whether I really need this with my PC (see below) and what is a drawback of using it? I like x2 for sure, but I'm afraid that some other areas of performance might be affected, such as GPU load or VRAM usage. Am I wrong? I'm at 1440/2k Only you can tell us based on what you see in front of you. Try everything and see what works best. I much prefer FSR3 for FG for example. 9950X3D - X870E Aorus Master- TUF 5090 OC - 64GB DDR5 - 1500W HXi - Titan 360 RX LCD - 9100 Pro x 2 - LG 45GX950A - HOTAS Warthog with Ava Base

I'm at 1440/2k I currently use 2x with frames internally locked at 30 (so I get 60fps essentially). FG does use more VRAM, but it feels a lot smoother to me than without. December 22, 2025Dec 22 I have i think a similar system, and quite frankly, Have never used FG at all since getting my system with all on Ultra. It runs like buddah! Of course your milage may vary...... There are some minor artifacts in very fast moving scenes (like if you look into the spinning turbines of a 320), but nothing that matters. Keep it on and you'll probably forget you have framgen on after a few days. It will just be very smooth (100+ fps) Edited December 22, 2025Dec 22 by JonathanC 9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen
December 22, 2025Dec 22 i do not use fg. locked at 72fps, smooth as silk, goes down to 60fps at big payware airports, as soon as i take off it is solid again at 72fps. MSI Z790i Edge | i7-14700K | EK 360AIO | 32GB DDR5 6400mhz | nVidia RTX5080 | Acer Predator 34"
December 23, 2025Dec 23 There are some modest artifacts using NV DLSS FG but as a diehard purist not using FG for a long time found it's improved especially in one key area: if you have a second display connected I used to get a bad screen judder every time I moved the mouse to make each display active focused. That problem completely disappeared so now FG is a strong net plus. Also, when you get strobe/flicker in particular on nearby tarmac during taxi for example when textures are built with high contrast say black and white particles I can simply hit a key to turn FG off and this mitigates the aberration a good 80-90%. December 23, 2025Dec 23 I run frame gen (x2 only due to my card) on a 9950X3D and 4090 at 3440x1440 ultrawide. This allows me to run capped in Nvidia control panel at 80fps and most of the time hit that with my settings (depending on the aircraft). If I fall below about 45fps my monitor falls out of Gsync and I noticed that a lot more when looking around the cockpit than any potential FG artifacts of which I've never seen any in MSFS/MSFS 2024. Yes I know what they look like, I tried FG in Starfield once when support was added and quickly turned it off as artifacts were immediately obvious.
