Okay everyone, in summary, we have 3 situations:

  • 1 - For those who only have MSFS2024 and native airports:
  • Community - install the native airports for MSFS2024 here
  • Community2024 - install nothing here
  •
  • 2 - For those who have MSFS2020 and MSFS2024:
  • Community - install the native airports for MSFS2024 here
  • Community2024 - install the airports compatible with MSFS2024 that were also from MSFS2020 here - Note: the developer always informs whether the airport is compatible with MSFS2024 or not.
  •
  • 3 - For those who only have MSFS2024 and want to use compatible MSFS2020 airports:
  • Community - install the native MSFS2024 airports here
  • Community2024 - install the MSFS2024 compatible airports that were also from MSFS2020 here - Note: the developer always informs whether the airport is compatible with MSFS2024 or not.

Note: even if you have MSFS2020 and MSFS2024, the folders are in different locations and there will be no conflict, this is correct.

Asoso got it right.

Hmm...I have 2024 and link all my airports to Community folder whether from 2024 or 2020.  What's happens if you put everything in Community?

It is only in use if you have both MSFS2020 and MSFS2024 installed. If you only have MSFS2024 forget it. Everthing should be in the Community folder.

Nothing I have 101 items in my 'Community' folder and everything works as intended. The Community2024 is empty. I have both sims installed as...

F: MSFS 2020

F: MSFS 2024

The sims are separate from each other. Running 2020 will only run items from within it's folder structure. Same with 2024.

The 2024 folder is for 2024 Only addons, the standard folder is for addons that work in both 2020 and 2024.

You can put native 2024 addons in either folder 2024 will read them fine, but if you're sharing that community folder with 2020, you probably shouldn't do that.

I'm about to uninstall 2020 and have had 2024 running for about a year.  Do I need to move anything from the original 2020 Community folder into the one associated w/ 2024?

Tuskin38, negative,
The "Community" folder is only for airports and add-ons native to MSFS2024, and the "Community2024" folder is for airports/add-ons that are compatible with MSFS2024 and also work in MSFS2020.
Want real proof of this?
Just install any add-on using a standard installation program, for example, if you bought something specific for MSFS2024 from sites like "simmarket.com" or "ORBX," you will see that during installation, the installer will install only in the "Community" folder.
If you buy an add-on that is for both MSFS2020 and MSFS2024, you will see that it will be automatically installed in the "Community2024" folder.

Estou prestes a desinstalar a versão 2020 e tenho usado a versão 2024 por cerca de um ano. Preciso mover algum arquivo da pasta Community original da versão 2020 para a pasta associada à versão 2024?

Noel,

You will only move what is compatible with MSFS2024. To do this, you need to ask the developer or do an internet search. For example, in the image below, you can see that SBSP is compatible with MSFS2024, so it needs to be moved to the "Community2024" folder.

Thanks.  But....what happens when I uninstall 2020?  Does it somehow save Community folder, the original one associated with 2020?  I mean I have plenty of 2020 airports in it and have almost all work in 2024.

Obrigado. Mas... o que acontece quando eu desinstalo a versão 2020? Ela salva de alguma forma a pasta Community, a original associada à versão 2020? Quero dizer, tenho vários aeroportos da versão 2020 nela e quase todos funcionam na versão 2024.

Correction: SBSB has a specific version for MSFS 2024 that is compatible, not native. That is, if you have SBSB in your MSFS 2020, you need to get the compatible version from the developer's website and install it in the "Community2024" folder, and not move everything from the MSFS 2020 folder to 2024.

Therefore, you need to analyze each airport. We know that many airports that were in MSFS 2020 work in MSFS 2024, but you need to put them in the correct folder to avoid future problems.

Regarding your last question, if you uninstall, everything in the "Community" folder will be deleted from MSFS 2020, so you need to make a copy of this folder to analyze what goes to MSFS 2024.

Note: The "Community" folders for each version of MSFS are in different locations, so don't worry, uninstalling MSFS2020 won't harm MSFS2024.

But one tip: simply moving the files isn't enough; you have to analyze the situation. Many developers adapted versions of MSFS2020 to MSFS2024, meaning you can't just copy them from one to the other. But if you said everything is working fine, then okay.

As I said, the purpose of the "Community2024" folder is for airports and add-ons that are COMPATIBLE with MSFS2024, and NOT native to MSFS2024.

Knich,

This could cause problems; it's best to follow the ASOBO/Microsoft recommendations, each in its proper place.

Thank you Nico.  This seems strange, unpredicted.  Almost all of my airports designed for 2020 stream fine in 2024 so this begs the question:  what happens if I do just move them into Community 2024?  Will they not work?

ChatGPT essentially says this:  if the airport is purchased thru the Marketplace for 2020, they will be retained and become redownloaded as compatible and therefore streamable, so no need to do anything with those airports.   They do say with 3rd party purchases for 2020 that are compatible they should be moved, pre-uninstall of 2020, to the Community 2024 and all will be fine.

I'm still not sure what picking up the 2024 versions of airports purchased for 2020, and that stream fine and work fine in 2024, offer.  What is added, as I say, if they already work fine in 2024?

Just to give my 2c on using chatgpt for anything (not that it was asked for), As an example I asked it .....

I need to wash my car, and the car wash is 100 meters away. should I walk or drive?

Chatgpt's answer.
It really depends on a few things! If you're only going 100 meters, walking is probably quicker, easier, and more eco-friendly. Plus, you can stretch your legs and enjoy the fresh air.

However, if you're in a rush, it's raining, or if you're carrying some heavy supplies to wash the car, driving might be more practical.

What's your gut feeling—walk or drive?

🤦‍♂️

I have both FS2020 and FS2024 and a separate Community folder for each. I have been putting FS2020 addons that are compatible with FS2024 into the "regular" FS2024 Community folder and all seems to be working fine. I did not realize until now that there was a separate Community2024 folder in FS2024, and so it is currently empty.  Will putting FS2020 addons that are compatible with FS2024 into the "regular" FS2024 Community folder lead to problems somehow? I don't mind keeping two copies of addons that work in both sims.

Thanks,

Al

The Community2024 is for 2024 native addons, you only need to use it if you're sharing the standard Community folder with 2020.

If you're not sharing the Community folder with 2020, you can put all your 2024 addons in whatever folder you want, 2024 reads both.
