Walkaround query.

Is it right that in order to walk around you first have to enter the aircraft then exit it? This is what I have to do and it seems to be *bum* 😄 about face. Have I missed a trick here?

If I start on a ramp usually I'm outside the aircraft.  I think that applies to only native 2024 aircraft though.

Indeed, you start outside. That is sensible. You would think you'd do a walkround THEN enter the plane. But 'one' has to enter the plane first THEN get out and do a walk around! Maybe I'm making to big a thing of it. It's a slow day.

Well I'm thinking to when I fly for real...  yeah I'd at least open the door, and flip some lights on to make sure they are working (especially for a night flight).  But then I'll do a walkaround, sumping the fuel, etc etc.  Check the oil, take the chocks out and stick them in the rear baggage compartment.

No, you don't need to get into the plane and back out to walk around in 2024.

Just a guess, but I notice sometimes it can take an extra minute for the sim to respond to inputs.  It is like everything is loaded, but it takes another minute or so for it to let you actually move.  My guess is that jumping in and back out leaves enough time for it to wake up.  Another similar thing, I can shift-c to get in, but not look around for a few moments.

Perhaps I haven't been clear. I'm whinging because the 'walkies'(WASD) buttons don't work until you've entered the exited the a/c

This is so pathetic I wish I hadn't started. 🙄🤣😖

Ahah! That's exactly what I mean. OK mate, I can live with that now. 👍

Back from a test. Unfortunately no amount of time makes any difference. It's probably something to do with a controls conflict.

Is there a 'throwing in the towel' emoji? 🤣

Ok that's odd.  It works for me right away outside the plane.

No this is not right.  You absolutely don't have to enter the plane first.  You start outside the plane, you can walk around and twiddle with things, then go into the plane when you're done twiddling.

Are you saying that your controls to walk around (verb) aren't working until you've gone into the plane, then come back out?   Because that's not normal behaviour.

Yeah... you should be able to walk around right from the start.  Maybe another addon is stealing focus from the sim when starting a flight... try clicking anywhere on the screen to make sure MSFS is the active window.

At least something has come out of this thread and that that there is something amiss. Thanks everyone for clearing that up.

I shall now go on a mission to sort it out.

I'm going in! 😛

Sorted. Kinda. Walkies are OK if you use the keyboard first. Which I don't. FSUIPC handles the keystrokes but Assobo insists on its keystrokes being in charge until they say it's OK for FSUIPC to take over.  Oy vey!

Case closed.

That's not true for my MSFS2024 install.  I start outside and I can WASD to my heart's content right away.   It could be that you're not giving it enough time to load as was said.

A tip on this, spacebar lets you "run" or walk faster.  You probably know that, but some people reading this may not and it's a neat thing.
