Crescent City, California (KCEC) Preview - MSFS20

Featured Replies

Howdy all,

Just wanted to preview my recent project as I feel it's getting close. Have been frustrated for a long time that this lovely little airport in Northern California has never really been available, so decided to take a crack myself.

Main features are the new terminal, FBO facilities, and replacing the odd default houses all over the GA area with proper custom and library hangars.  Don't really have the skillset yet, so nothing fancy like new ground ortho or custom ground polygons unfortunately. Will add fencing and other security features and then version 1.0 should be good to go. Please note the static aircraft are just there for scaling.

Any feedback welcome, especially those familiar with this airport.

You are off to a good start.  I used to dabble with scenery in my P3D days.

Nice. I've flown in and out of there several times IRL. United express and Horizon Air had a few flights in and out of Cresent City.

Thank you for all the comments, glad there is still love for these smaller GA-heavy airports with limited commercial service.

Small GA airfields need all positive energy. Thank you for your hard work! Looks great!

That's a real confidence boost coming from such a scenery legend!  Do you ever plan on releasing a limited library of California airfield objects, like speed signs and fuel tanks?

I have also been hunting for a replacement rotating beacon, because the default Asobo one isn't very useful.

Whaou, thank you 😉 A library? I do have a very limited number of handcrafted object and almost none of those I build are really copy/pastable to another scenery. For example, the fuel tank I've made, are customized for each airport because of the texture, so a library wouldn't really make sense. And believe me, my object are really not professionnaly designed.

You mean this rotation beacon?

What about combining a simple stick red-white pole (I suspect there's one avail in the MSFS lib) and put on top a rotating beacon? It wouldn't make the trick? Because I'm strong believer that there's room for highly-skilled scenery developers capable to create dozens of 3D objects and we have a place, as freeware passionate developers, for those who recreate an ambiance, as the real airport with a as-like-as-possible approach. The MSFS engine is so capable that you can disseminate hundreds of small objects (from MSFS stocked library) here and here and here to build this feeling of reality.

Yes, that's the one! I will keep hunting. There might be a rotating light object I overlooked that can go on top of a pole, as you suggested.  The default beacon object though is not suitable for this airport I think...

Other airports I am investigating to make next have good views of fuel tank and other infrastructure, but I couldn't find the right angle for KCEC yet. I even checked YouTube videos, haha!

Oh no, I am not sure what the issue is. I am still able to view them. It is my first time using Imgur, so apologies for that.

Story of my life when deciding to rebuild an MSFS airport. I spent hours to collect material: flickr, youtube, bing maps, google maps, still pictures, pilot videos, tourist videos, government document, local community report, survey... anything is a source of details.

Imgur hosting service - that I'm also using for most of my screen shots at avsim - is known as not accessible at least from UK. It's been discussed on several posts, here on avsim. I'm lazy to change my screenshots sharing flow (fully integrated, one click, with ShareX) for only one country 😉

Not at all, not your fault. Is there anywhere else we can see this though?
