March 7Mar 7 I am completely Baffled by SIM update in FS2024. in FS 2020, you would simply Receive “mandatory updates” and they would install right in. No problem. I have had now, FS2024 since last August and, frankly I have found it to be an annoying pain in the word not allowed every step of the way. The scuttlebutt seems to be that it really started to behave like a lady when SIM update 3 came out so recently I have decided that I should keep up with the Jones's and get it. Not so simple. I have done searches and inquiries and have been buried in reams and reams of “release notes” But is there such a thing as a link? Not that I've found. I believe that there are now 5 SIM updates out. I'm feeling a little simple minded right now as I've been doing this (simming that is) since FS4 but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to get them. I have done the Base Content download; I have well over 150 gigabytes on board I believe. I fly on FS2020 every day. I have what I consider a very nice establishment there several airplanes and I'm flying all over the world. I'm very happy with 2020 and I keep asking myself why on earth am I even messing with 2024? Tres

While I agree with your sentiment in general, there is no sim 5 update yet, it is still in beta. If you lack patience with the process, you certainly would not want to take part in the SU5 beta - that is all there is at the moment. The normal sim updates will happen automatically when they are ready without all that registration to get the beta. SU3 was the best for me, SU4 broke a few things for me, and in my view degraded the experience, but still, at least the kids have got 120 FPS now. SU5 beta broke the Tobii head tracker for me. I am hearing it might now be fixed in the latest beta but I don't have the time and patience any more. Like you, I am back to 2020, with decent performance, and all my old aircraft that I paid hundreds for working correctly. If you are happy with it as well, it might be the place to stay for a while! March 7Mar 7 By changing to windowed mode (alt + enter) you can see the version number. That tells you which update you have (in the title bar up on top). 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. I would echo this. I suspect you've got the sim updates without even realizing. It's a much more seamless process in 2024 than in 2020. The updates get installed pretty much automatically, and unlike in 2020, you don't get a long download after you start the sim. So maybe this is why you thought it isn't working for you, when in fact it is?

As others have noted, you almost certainly have sim update 4 (the latest non-beta) you just don't realize it. You don't need to do anything. Go to windowed mode and check the version number in the upper left. If the first 2 numbers are 1.6, you have sim update 4. As of today (March 7) the latest build is currently 1.6.34.0 I believe. My experience since moving to 2024 from 2020 has been the exact opposite. I've had only minor issues, and the process has been easier than any other sim upgrade I've done to date. While it's still installed, I haven't touched 2020 since moving over and I'd have a very hard time going back. An uninstall is definitely soon to come. If I was tight on disk space, I'd have already done so. Scott
March 8Mar 8 Author Thanks fellas. It's just typical of the confusion that has been my experience of 2024 so far. It is very stable but the incredibly complicated key bindings world is just making my head hurt. It doesn't look any better than 2020 to me and I'm still groping for why anybody would. think it's better. I think part of the confusion I got into was over beta versions and I have never been concerned about that, it's enough of a headache as it is LOL! But I have it now and, PITA that it is I'm going to keep plugging away. but so far I'm having a lot more fun with 2020. And yes, I do have the up to date version; 1.6.34.0. Key binding in 2024 is a little more different than 2020. But once you do your first plane key binding, it's a piece of cake after that. I have not looked back at 2020 since I installed 2024. If you downloaded the latest version of 2024, then you have the latest build (SU4). Which is the best stable build with great performance. Almost every plane I owned in 2020 has now been now updated for 2024 platform. Just be a little patience and accept change moving forward.
