Why do those screenshots look better than MSFS? 👀 Even the sky looks excellent.

I would have thought such discussion on tress would have been long put to bed given the trees representation in P3D was much the same as FSX unless "Dynamic 3D Autogen Vegetation" was enabled which tu

Given how little I’ve spent on my setup in the last year I bit the bullet and got both. Installed but not had a fly yet as summer has arrived in the last couple of hours. I’ll give you some feedback a

I just use the ORBX HD trees, and they are much better than the stock ones IMO. Dave

You should probably ask your medic about that, not us :)

More seriously, concerning the OrbX Terra Flora, I remember I tried to use it for a while, but in the end I was always coming back to the semi-transparent tree textures by A.Leclercq mentioned earlier, because they blended better with the ground textures (both generic or ortho). However, only the conifers were benefiting from this transparency, other tree types were still 100% opaque, leading to sometimes unpleasant results, depending on the quality of the orthos.... EDIT: actually some other types as well, but not as much as the conifers... I just checked some older screenshots.

There were also some special sceneries from FranceVFR that brought high-resolution tree textures.... beautiful if you are in the covered area, but not really matching the textures of anywhere else...

I took a short flight yesterday from Liverpool down to Bristol in the Carenado PC12 at 4,000ft. Nothing jumped out at me as being false. The many areas containing trees looked entirely natural. What a pleasant change and for so little outlay.

Next target are the false waves around coastlines. After that maybe the ASCA clouds need looking at as the absence of anything threatening when cumulonimbus is present is disappointing.

There is a way to turn the coastline waves off if that helps you. I’ve done it myself, but can’t remember the exact steps. You can find out how on the orbx forum. I believe you have to manually turn them off every time you install a new orbx product or verify files in the orbx app.

There are also replacement coastline wave textures out there that look way better than default, but I still prefer to just have them off completely.

This seems like a good starting point.

P3Dv5 utilizes the Triton Ocean SDK for its 3D water effects, and you can manually adjust how waves behave using its configuration file. [1]

  • Navigate to your P3D installation directory and open the Resources folder.

  • Open Triton.config using a text editor like Notepad.

  • You can adjust values for wave cresting, splashing, and overall wave scale.

  • Note: Adjust these settings cautiously, as pushing values too high can cause severe drops in FPS. Always create a backup of the original configuration file before making any edits

Maybe we are discussing two different things. I was referring to disabling the 2D coastline wave textures that I believe are originally from FSX and don’t look good at all in my opinion.

Orman, I thought there was only one set of waves. Haven’t used FSX in years.

Hello Rogen

Is your "In the end I built hybrid packages consisting of Terra Flora v2 & Orbx HD Trees with just the alternate vegetation components to suit Orbx, along with config adjustments for coverage changes." available to download ?

I still use The Aimé Leclercq textures

Thanks in advance

Ray I found the thread on AVSIM that fixes the issue I was referring to regarding waves.

I wouldn't say the pics look better than MSFS overall, that said P3D is a pretty open platform and with the right amount of programing & configuration effort P3d can look pretty fine IMHO.

The main issue I see is people shy away from configuration effort preferring to run in the default config because it's not their "thing" to adjust configurations to suit. Cannot really blame consumer level users though, LM never did make it easy to understand.

Even the Prepar3D.cfg is not well documented, the platform is basically LM's product they build and configure for their direct customers (who spend $$$ in the multi millions), leaving everyone else pretty much on their own.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure if you're running v5+those shoreline waves are disabled/removed as a default.

I still run shoreline waves though, but I use the "Global_Orbx_Wave_Effects" package rather than the default FSX style.

Global_Orbx_Wave_Effects is a freeware package from Orbx originally designed for P3D v4, the package still does function on P3D 5+, however the changes to effects structures (in particular to transparency) means a person must manually edit the effects files on a trial and error basis to cater for the transparency shift, (because LM didn't document a "How To" make suitable compatibility changes that I'm aware of).

Anyway, they do look pretty fine as shown in the vid below.

There are also a few other shoreline wave packages created by other devs as well but the Orbx crew's package is the nicest overall.

Sure... from Orbx, you have to buy them of course.

Then configure the packages and adjust the Prepar3D.cfg to increase the density of vegetation.

You can use it with P3Dv6, but you have to install it for P3Dv5 and then change the addon path to your v6 addons.
