A total P3d upgrade to P3d v7 (or whatever it will be called). I would love to see an LM P3d version that transforms the world into scenery that is comparable or even better than what's found in MSFS. I still fly both sims every week several times, but I must say that I really do prefer the "close to reality" scenery I see in MSFS.

Do all of you P3d'ers still hold out hope for a new upgraded sim, or have you lost faith?

I have no faith in a v7 that will have what you describe, but I’m also quite happy with what I have in V5.

Only if it would be impressive enough to draw the primary aircraft developers back. Otherwise I think it would be a non factor.

In fact about a month ago, I switched to. xplane 12. I have not looked back and I have no regrets whatsoever.

I've pretty much given up on LM. It seemed for a while that they were working on a v7, but from what I understand it will be a completely new platform and only for military customers, at least for the time being.

If MSFS 2024 finally matures into a sim without so many problems and constant updates which fix some things but break others, then I'll end up switching to that. Now, before anyone gets all indignant that I've criticized MSFS, all they have to do is head over to the MSFS forum and read through the many and varied posts about all the problems. P3D has its drawbacks, but it's reliable, and I've rarely have any significant problems with it since v5.

Someone mentioned X-plane 12 here, and I've considered that, but I just don't think the scenery looks as good as P3D. I know that other things are better, but scenery has always been quite important to me.

With ortho products like map enhancement and sim heaven, both freeware or an inexpensive pro version XPlane 12 looks very good. Its binding system is very intuitive and easy to set up. So many things that don’t require a utility addon like the camera system and even push back is free. Lighting system is great and default airports are so good I feel no need to purchase an endless stable of addon airports. I just started using XP12 last fall and could go on singing the praises but this is the P3D forum and I don’t mean to be impolite so I’ll add my P3DV5 stays installed and still looks vibrant due to expensive addons collected over a decade. Too much to walk away from. I don’t see a resurgence in the hobby market by LM. Personally I’m too old to start over if there was one. That’s a big thing about XP12 is it comes with so many features you don’t have to buy addons for.

Xplane 12 has two very significant and free or I should say donation ware scenery additions. you can have Google maps Bing maps other maps that have all the terrain that you see in MSFS I repeat those add-ons are free and they’re fairly easy to install

Dave, I'm really surprised by your remark about the XPlane12 scenery there. I would really recommend you to give it another try and look closer at how the default scenery looks, and check how it can look like with appropriate addons (even without considering any payware). They really have some strong advantages over the old P3D scenery engine, especially when it comes to how cities are depicted, and ESPECIALLY when it comes to night lighting. Also, the few latest updates of XPlane12 have really drastically improved the depiction of the sky and weather (and lighting in general), which are all quite catastrophic in P3D.

Considering MSFS2024, I was going to say that it might be the most "comfortable" sim to switch to from P3D, but XP12 is closer to P3D if we consider the "online" side of things, so I'm not sure which one would feel most familiar in the end. Concerning the constant updates, well you're not wrong there, but your mileage may vary a lot depending on what kind of addons you use and how you use them.

Finally, the P3Dv7 which we all hoped for turned out to be a completely different product not aimed at general users, so I have personally stopped hoping for any new version of P3D. I still miss the TacPack (no, I don't CARE about DCS, which I own but uninstalled) though, and I'm still bitter about the fact that P3D nor TacPack never offered any realistic aircraft carrier ops or aerial refuelling. Now in MSFS2020, 2024, the naval ops are just as bad as in P3D, but at least I can get a much nicer refuelling experience.

I, too, hope for another version off P3D, but I recently re-installed my P3Dv5 and some Orbx scenery just for fun (I run every flight sim I can find).

If interested in a supplement to P3Dv5, for me XP12 is its spiritual successor. The flight dynamics etc are great, the “representative world” of the scenery never surprises you with clouds or strange colors, and the clouds and weather effects are amazing. Default aircraft are more than enough for fun, and the LevelUp 737v2 looks amazing and seems nice. I believe there is a timed demo around KPDX which is free and will give you a flavor for it.

Back to P3Dv5, I was surprised how well it ran and how good the sky and clouds looked even vs XP12 in some cases.

In any case, I like P3Dv5 as another option and there is no reason not to enjoy some “retro” action the same way I run and enjoy Atari and NES emulators. And it’s good to be able to flip between sims because I inevitably end up getting mad at all of them at some point. 😂
