January 5, 200521 yr JD,Did you or the team ever get an opportunity to jot down some of the features/capabilities of RC4? Bill Moore
January 6, 200521 yr Commercial Member i will put some bullets together, and ask the beta team to add their comments and give you something by the end of the weekjd JD Read my blog
January 7, 200521 yr Commercial Member maybe a few screen shots, and some commentshttp://www.jdtllc.com/V4/v4_startup.JPGyou can still load .apl files, but the preferred file format is .pln - which all flight planners are able to export to.i split the options into 3 different area. the area next to the option buttons shows the current option settings.the debug will be defaulted to off (grey). it's on and green for the beta testers. this button creates a log, which i can use to troubleshoot any problems.you can save a rc session by either saving the flight (.flt) with the appropriate FSx key (; be default), or by the menu, or by the rc hot key ctrl-shift-; (by default)let's pretend i clicked the "load Fs200x flight plan" buttonhttp://www.jdtllc.com/V4/v4_plan.JPGnothing new here. wherever you last loaded a .flt will be where i go looking for the next one. there are no alternates defined.profile descent is something new. if you know what it is, then you know what you might expect. it will probably make it in v4. if i'm mired in problems, it may be ripped out.notice next to the controllers button, the frequencies you might need are display.let's look at the controllers page. there is some new stuff therei'll click okhttp://www.jdtllc.com/V4/v4_post_plan.JPGnotice next to the load buttons, a shorthand view of your flight plan. by default RVSM is onhttp://www.jdtllc.com/V4/v4_controller.JPGthe frequencies are accurate for each airportthe center frequency is accurate for atlanta centerthere are som visual clues, such as MHz, ft, 00 ft, which i hope will help with the entry of some of these numbers.you notice there are three options for departure procedure.a departure procedure with no altitude restrictions, in other words you can fly the plate, with nary a word from the controller.a departure procedure with altitude restrictinos, which is what you would experience with version 3.x - iow, you must follow the altitude clearances issued by the controllerno departure procedure - this is there, so if you have a checkpoint within 30 miles of the airport, you would automatically get a departure procedure. you might not one, or intend to have one. just turn it off here.no speed restrictions - is mainly for non USA airports, allowing you to have no speed restrictions below 10000, when departing an airport.by default, RVSM is on, you can choose not to use it.the rest is self explanatoryclick ok, and we'll look at the general optionshttp://www.jdtllc.com/V4/v4_options.JPGyou can choose to have enroute holding based on weather, always on, or always offthere is ai chatter and "live" chatter. not really live, didn't know what else to call it. it is location specific recorded chatter, if available. ai chatter is where the rc controller will be talking to the surrounding ai, on the ground and in the air.something many people have asked for, a simple way of controlling what controllers they have to listen to. also which pilots and co-pilots. here you gohttp://www.jdtllc.com/V4/v4_voices.JPGif you'd like to be part of the voice sets in version 4, contact mei will continue to add to this thread after dinnerjd JD Read my blog
January 7, 200521 yr Hi,looks very promising, can't wait for the next round of shots :)And if you need european beta testers, let me know! Recently finished my german IFR ATC license (called AZF here) and already have real world experience with flying in control zones so i do know about ATC :-wavejanosch
January 8, 200521 yr JDI would be interested in adding to the voice sets. Always fancied myself as a controller here in Australia and it would be so cool to hear my own voice as a pilot.RegardsAndy b Andy Brockbank
January 8, 200521 yr Hi Andy,Gets more wicked when you hear your own pilot voice, and have your own voice as controller responding to your own pilot voice! I did voice sets of pilot and controller for RC; freaks out friends of mine I show RC to... :-lolCheers,Mike Turano
January 8, 200521 yr MikeMaybe being the voice of the chap who provides the Critique and Bill Stevens giving you a severe going over would be cool too. Perhaps a series of excuses for busting altitudes would be fun too e.g. "Sorry Bill, got an offer I couldn't refuse and when I got my attention back to the task at hand I was already 10,000 feet higher than I should be and 120 miles off course - wouldn't you be?"Andy b Andy Brockbank
January 8, 200521 yr Commercial Member now for the things you can't see, but will hear and experienceatis - not much changed here. atis is pretty much atis. there is some "internationalization" with what atis says. i also know what runway fs9's ai are using, and this will be used in the message.clearance -pretty much the same, there is some "internationalization" here as well. you will hear the ai planes getting clearance from the rc clearance controller.ground -more "internationalization". i also know what runway is being used by fs9's ai, and you will be given the same runway as the ai. you can always change it. you will also be told to "follow the" or "give way to the" "delta 737" or "american 757", or whatever the closest taxiing ai aircraft.tower -tower now knows how many planes are in front of you, and you will be told you're number N, when you call tower. you don't have to call tower when you are the threshold any more. you can call tower as you taxi out. you will be told when to taxi into position and hold, and when you're cleared for takeoff. you will also hear tower talking to landing and departing ai planes. more "internationalization" of course.more, after the football game. January 9, 200521 yr Commercial Member indeed."delta 391 taxi to runway 23 and hold short...or for the non US locations"delta 391 taxi holding point runway 23....of course this only happens when delta 391 starts taxiing to runway 23, and you are on ground frequency :-)jd JD Read my blog
January 9, 200521 yr jd,Can't wait for RC4. I recall reading a thread from a few weeks back in which you were having difficulty controlling the AI aircraft in order to avoid stupid things like repeated missed approaches. Have you made any progress on that front? Yours could be the product which finally fixes the stupid AI :)
January 9, 200521 yr Commercial Member yes, i have made a lot of progress on that front JD Read my blog
January 9, 200521 yr HI,are conditional clearances like "behind landing boeing 737 on short final line up behind and wait" are also implemented now? Just curious :)janosch
