  1. Hi all,I'm building some profiles for Flight Assistant, the Freeware Voice recognition program.I've already uploaded a stable profile with 256 Voice Commands. What I am looking for is the following.I am already very familiar with the kneeboard keys fileMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9Aircraftkneeboard_keys.htm What I want is to print out or cut and paste all of the available commands that one can see when they view the "settings, assignments, all commands"For instance there are a dozen or so GPS commands in there. Also, is there a way to itemize all key commands in order without a lot of work.IE: CTRL a CTRL b SHIFT Num9 SHift Num5I want to see what is used up and what is not being used without having to hunt and peck my way through the whole file. Thanks in Advance,Joe
  2. Try This one as the above does not seem to be working.http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...scen&DLID=58379Regards,Joe
  3. Hi all,I have not tried SpeechBuddy2, but have extensive experience with Shoot, which has unfortunately not been updated in quite some time.I find Flight Assistant to be much more stable and has support from the person who designed it, and is accesible.I believe Speechbuddy2 stopped at FS2002, whereas Flight Assistant works well for MSFS2004.It does use some of the functionality of FSUIPC, so you can get some readouts of data and such.I can only compare FA with Shoot, and I feel FA is much more stable. I have not yet had any problems with FA once I hit stability with this profile.I also advise not to change anything in my file until you read my tips about doing so in the PDF ReadMe. There may be consequences if you go fiddling with the ini or just start adding commands to what I have.If you have the speech engine already, load up FA and give it a try. If you want to compare, I encourage it.I also have some ideas of other things I will include with the next profile release, which will hopefully include more than one aircraft. There have been many changes since V1 of FA. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding it.Regards,Joe
  4. There is another way to check these types of things out.Load up your program, and open your Windows Task Manager and view the processes tab.Click on the mem usage column to sort high to low. Then load your program, while viewing the tab, if you highlight it, it will track for you as it uses mem usage. Then minimize the program and maximize it, track the usage. Over time you will see what it is using, and what it goes back to to benchmark its use.Useful to someone perhaps, and then forward that to their support people. Thanks for giving people here the heads up on this.Regards,Joe
  5. Your Welcome and I've got more in the works. You can also execute commands one after the other even while the program is responding to you. It will execute the commands one right after the other.Try this out.Extend flaps slow - retract flaps slow - full flaps - retract flaps without about a one second delay between each command. Do it in spot view so you can watch it all develop. Also, one note, if you try to "go to standby frequency", you must enable the "select com radio", or "select nav radio" first.I think two of my favorites are the checklists, and the ATC. "Air Traffic Control" 1 3 0 3, etc....And the runup checklist is probably my favorite one to execute. Something about verbal prompts. As you learn the program, it can be quote fun. The possibilities are great as well.Just open up your settings, assignments, choose all commands, and look at all the commands that are possible. I plan to add PDF's to the next package which will itemize all key commands and I have some other Ideas.Great program....Anyone else trying it out, let me know how you like it and how it is working.Stay Tuned.Regards,Joe
  6. Ok, I now have it in the correct category along with the main program.***********************************USE THE FOLLOWING LINK TO DOWNLOAD:***********************************http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...misc&DLID=58334Enjoy,Joe
  7. Thanks Ed,Let me know how it works out for you. And make sure you read the ReadMe PDF for tips before you start changing anything. Also, if you can let me know that the instructions were ok, and made sense, I would appreciate it.Regards,Joe
  8. Ok, the file is in the library now. Here is the Link and the description:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...util&DLID=58334Happy VR,Regards,Joe
  9. You said:"Typically, when someone asks a question about a payware product, the best source for a timely, correct answer would be in that company's forum, assuming that they have one."Whether it is the best source is an opinion, as I've seen people get bashed on developers sites for asking questions as well. (I saw one today on a different site) It is A CHOICE, and should not be the ONLY choice. And this is not meant to only encompass payware developers. But since you mention it, Microsoft is a payware developer, just like yours, no difference. They sell stuff. Yet, I don't see too many posts here or otherwise demanding people go directly to MS for support. Why should any developer free or pay be able to do that to a consumer, and demand they go somewhere else or highly stress that they do. Why should we allow any developer pay or free to do that. Not many developers demand that of their clients, yet in our hobby it is seen as ok by some. I disagree with that, and I think it is wrong. You said:"Considering the plethora of flightsim websites, forums and newsgroups, do you really think that it would even be possible for any group of developers - freeware or payware - to monitor every single forum or newsgroup to answer questions?"They should not have to, nor should they try. MS doesn't. If someone has a question, they should feel free to ask it anywhere. Eventually, if they do not find the answer, maybe they will take the time and register at umpteen forums to get answers to their numerous programs. But I don't see too many questions unanswered here, so why not commend the members that do answer the questions instead of seeing the poster condemned as is the practice now exhibited from time to time. But me, I have faith in the users here, sometimes more than anyone else, because they may have the same question, or know the answer without the hassle of multiple site registrations. That is what makes Avsim a Community, when I or others can ask any question about flight simming, find very good advice given by members here, and it's all located at one place. Pretty convenient for me, and I have the opinion it's quite convenient for others too.At least it used to be that way. Now we have people answering questions with "go to xyz site and ask it there". And sometimes, I even wonder if the person who knows it might know the answer but feels only support questions can be asked at one place.Well, I guess know one should ever ask a question about MSFS 2004 then and people can just lead them to the MS site instead. But I don't think so, as long as I can help a bit, I will, and I will encourage others to do the same.Regards,Joe
  10. Hi all,I just uploaded to the library a zip file titled: fa172.zip It will show once they clear it.In the meantime you can TEMPORARILY Get it Here: [a href=http://www.aboutpolitics.net/fa/fa172.zip]Click here to Download from my site[/a] This package is only for use with the Flight Assistant program by Timm Linder located here in the library or at his website here:[a href=http://www.linder-network.de/thelindercompany/html/english/flightassistant.html ]Get Flight Assistant and other required files here.[/a] This Profile is by Joseph Ranos, (Sonar5) and includes 256 Voice Commands that are all executed with a voice response.Approximately 190+ Execute a MSFS2004 Key command as well as a Voice response. (voice response may be limited if you do not have all programs according to main Flight Assistant website). Approximately 60+ have a response but do not execute a key command. These are used for Cabin Crew Calls, Jokes, and optimized with Cessna 172 Checklists to show you the possibility of what the program is capable of. (for use with Flight Assistant version 2.2 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 ONLY)This package is uploaded to Avsim with the permission of Timm Linder, the author of Flight Assistant, and it may NOT be uploaded to any other site without the written permission of Joseph Ranos. What is included in the Package: 1) fa172readme.pdf This PDF file explains the use of the files. 2) fa172.ini This file is the BACKUP configuration file you will have when you create the fa172 folder as advised below. It acts as a backup file in case you delete the original. 3) FlightAssistant.ini This file is an identical file to the fa172.ini above. This is what you will use to replace the original .ini file that came with the program. 4) Fa172voicecommands.pdf A separate PDF File showing all of the Voice Command prompts that can be printed out for reference. These are in order of placement. Subsequent versions will be cleaned up and organized, as I wanted to get this out sooner rather than later.5) fa172.txt a text file showing a limited amount of info. Please Read the Readme PDF before you install it. Regards, JoeSonar5
  11. hmmmm..Have you installed the MS patch for MSFS2004?patch here:http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/downloads.aspCould be the seasonal thing some were experiencing. Also before installing the product, did you install any scenery? You may need to backtrack the problem to something you installed recently. You can also take a screen pic of the error box an dpost it here as well.Regards,Joe
  12. Well, I don't own it, but I am learning eric's 727 at the moment with Richard's awesome panel. I am also developing a config file for use with eric's 727 in Voice recognition using Flight assistant. I'll have that hopefully in a few weeks, maybe sooner. Should be over 250 + Commands when I am done woith it.I'm mostly a GA guy, but I appreciate you taking the time to come up with the data, even though I don't fly the big iron as much as the pistons, I do appreciate it.Regards,Joe
  13. I don't think he is talking about screenshots, I think he is talking about modifications to the panel config file, along these lines:[VCockpit02]file=Cessna_172_Panel_Decals.bmpsize_mm=512,512pixel_size=512,512texture=$C172s_2background_color=0,0,0Except having to do with Wing View locations. And I am not sure, but all he is doing is changing numbers to get a different view, right?Regards,Joe
  14. Hi all,Ever wonder what Community means? IMHO, it means people coming together to help one another in a common cause. If you download programs of any sort, you will no doubt have to obtain support for some of them from time to time. I know I do.Now what does that require?Well, normally it requires you to register for umpteen number of forums, sites, or even email support when a product does not have a forum.Count up how many forums you have registered for just to get a few questions answered. You should not have to do this, IMHO.I don't feel a person should be required to only ask questions at a certain place. And I certainly don't feel a person should be ridiculed for asking questions here, no matter what the question if it involves a product. After browsing these forums, I have seen numerous responses to questions along the lines of.EX: "why are you posting here, go to xyz's site, register for their forums and ask the question there. How dare you ask a support question here"orEX: "If you had only contacted xyz by email, we would have helped you out"Many of you may have seen these posts. Maybe some are posts asking a question that can be answered without the hassle of a person having to register at 20 different forums.Maybe, just maybe for products without forums, there are more than one person who has the same question but was in fear to ask.IMHO, this is a community that all questions should be welcomed for support whether another forum exists or not.Now maybe not every question can be answered here, but nonetheless, shouldn't these members not be ridiculed for asking a question? When a product has no forum, sometimes multiple numbers of persons can be helped by seeing a question answered here.I've always given back by helping in areas I am familiar with. More so in the past than recently, due to other responsibilities. And whether a product had a forum somewhere else or not, I've tried for the most part to answer the question, provide the link to an answer, or point the person in the right direction. So in the spirit of the coming New Year, I will try to help others here with questions on products whether they have support forums somewhere else or not. And that to me is Community.BTW - For those that feel certain questions should only be asked in a specific product support forum. Microsoft has boards too, but no one seems to say go ask your question there, so why should anyone be expected to do that when a product has something to do with simming. MS Board http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertz...blic.simulators And that is my feeling on community.Best Regards,Joe

  16. Pssst....Yeah You.....Over here....Welcome to Avsim...... :-)By the way... What about Cessna...? ;-)Regards,me,... ....
  17. Happy to provide it.I just hope more people discover speech recognition, as it is pretty good technology. Not perfect, but nothing is, no matter what the hype.Regards,me,... ....
  18. Hi Todd,That is a brave concept. I would advise against it, unless you are ONLY talking about files you and your friends create. If so, there are many scripts out there that allow you to accomplish that.I did a search in Google and came up with these:http://www.google.com/search?q=freeware+up...=utf-8&oe=utf-8However, the king of all script places that I use regularly is here:http://hotscripts.com/If you are allowed PHP, CGI, Perl, or other fun code, you can also set up password access and all kinds of locked doors to keep others out except your friends.Remember, a lot of freeware license files stipulate that a file can only be uploaded at a certain place. Why open a can of worms that can be left open somewhere else instead of your place? You may be better off doing what this place has done by providing links to where the files are housed.http://vanslooten.org/fs2004.phpI can help you a bit if you have some questions on all this. I know quite a bit about it actually. :-)Oh yeah, you can do all this with 100% FREEWARE Software. Where you host and what you pay for that is entirely up to you though.Me, I use these fine folks, which I pay for.http://www.globat.comJust my nickel.regards,me,... ....
  19. Well Jimmie,I feel for you in terms of perceived promises of "virtually training-free use". (Your words) that is almost like saying you don't have to memorize (voice) commands. ;-)If you are truly that unhappy with it, perhaps ask them for a refund and see what happens. Thanks for posting your experience, and good luck with it. Let us know how it all turns out.As for memorizing commands, I have about 230 Commands in one profile I use, and while you may not have to memorize keys, these types of programs do require you, IMHO, to memorize voice commands in order to get good functionality. All you have done is switch memorizing key commands for memorizing voice commands. You still need to memorize no matter what some say, IMHO.Start by printing up your key commands list in MSFS2004. And then I also printed up my Profile for Shoot, which I keep nearby. I'd guess I have close to about 70 or so memorized, and the rest I use the sheet just like I would if I was using the keyboard. What these programs do is cut out the keyboard commands, and SUBSTITUTE the memorization of key commands for memorization of Voice Commands. Simple as that. I don't have voice buddy, but with shoot, I did have some concerns with the speech engine randomly jumping around. (That was also with a desktop microphone) I no longer have that concern except one in a while. It still happens occasionally, but it is minimal. It may have more to do with the MS Speech engine than any of the programs that utilize the engine, but I have read where others using this particular program have experienced some of the same concerns you have.As for another user asking you to contact support. That may be a good idea, they also have a Knowledge base on their site, maybe check there. But guess what, from their original site, it appears there are no specific Forums to ask questions in, so any high traffic forum like this one should produce results.Going through support may solve your problem, and it may not, but making others aware of a potential problem with any software is a very noble deed, IMHO.I do hope you take some of the advice in this thread, and judging by the number of reads, it is likely by asking your question, others here have been helped or learned about speech recognition or other Freeware speech programs they can try before plopping down some dollars or euros. As for others contemplating a purchase, as always buyer beware, and I advise beware of companies that promise things that may not turn out to be what you think they meant by their statement. LOOK for DEMO's instead, and ask the company for a demo copy, they may be able to send you a time expiring beta or something. Worth a shot if they want you as a cuctomer. Thanks for posting it. I appreciate it.Regards,me,... ....
  20. Maybe if they had a demo, your frustration could have been avoided. If this had been a demo, would you have still bought it after your experience?Sorry you had to find out some things the expensive way. me,... ....
  21. Well, I hope you get it cleared up, but this company should be COMMENDED for offering a demo, even if you are not happy with its performance. The Best news here is that they do have a DEMO, which I wished more of the developers did, especially with complex technology, etc, AND aircraft. I feel it would add integrity and pride within their product, and it serves our hobby well. The truth of the matter is that any company can successfully offer a demo prior to purchase, most just CHOOSE not to. WHY???I think if more companies did DEMOS's, it may end up increasing their sales. I know I would probably have more payware than I do now if some of them offered demo's. Especially when they ask what I consider to be higher costs, you would think they would offer a bit more than glorified screenshots. So accolades for this company offering a Demo, for good or bad, it is the RIGHT thing to do, and they should be commended for doing so, even if you don't end up buying their product.Just think how much money you could save by viewing a demo before you bought it. Could save much dissapointment. But I don't expect developers to go down that route, as they are POSSIBLY more happy with the impulse buyers instead of the delayed gratification crowd that does its research before it buys.I wonder why many don't offer demo's. Hmmmm......But think of the goodwill and good publicity of those that do. Trying a demo and not liking it is like trying Freeware. Just delete it if you don't like it, and encourage others to try the demo before they buy it. At least you are not out any money, like many who are dissapointed at the hype.My advice. Practice delayed gratification with every new product. Wait until UNBIASED-(rare) Reviews come out, and see what problems people ar ehaving before you buy. You may save quite a bit of money in the meantime, and be happy about your purchase once you do buy.You can Grab their demo here./DisclaimerI have nothing to do with this company and have never even tried their software before. I did just download their demo from here though./End DisclaimerDemo at bottom here:http://fshotseat.com/Downloads.aspRegards,me ... ....
  22. I haven't heard of it, but I know there are a few different ways to obtain the schooling for it.Some do it several ways, self-study is the cheapest, and then you take courses after you have mostly learned on your own.Or you can take a full course, classroom style, which costs the most. You may be looking at between $3,000 -$4,000 for a full course. As low as $1,000- $1,500 for a self study type course.Regards,Joe
  23. I should have rephrased, you take a similar test as an ATP, which does get you a Dispatchers certificate. Same Knowledge is required for both.
  24. Yes there are numerous 707's still flying, and many DC9's and many 727's.A quick search at landings using their query found several registered 707's in the United States.Great and free databases can be accessed over there.http://www.landings.comme,... ....
  25. I also don't see a whole big difference in the panels between the Real Air and the other one.Flight One has some Screenshots here of their 172:http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=esd172And I have posted some pics of teh Real Air 172SP in the Screenshot Forum here:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=177949&page=I guess it would be great if they offered a demo, but not many do that.I also adjusted the eyepoint of mine a bit.me ... ....
