  1. Hello, Welcome to the AVSIM forums and to FSX. PMDG 747-400X has a freight model. I don't know your FlightSim history so I don't know if you're familiar with PMDG or not, http://www.precisionmanuals.com/index_css.html, they make top-of-the-line FlightSim add-on aircraft. This beast is very detailed with many systems simulated. You may want a 747 but not as high of a learning curve or resource hungry add-on. CLS has a 747 200 and 300 model that doesn't have as in depth an FMC. I'm pretty sure it has a freight model, but double check. For a little smaller a/c but with highly detailed systems like the PMDG , I believe there are freighter paints available for the LevelD Sim 767-300ER. Another real thinking man's sim add-on there. Very nice aircraft as you've probably seen if you've skimmed any forums. Those are just some off the top of my head. I'm sure more good suggestions are coming:)Whoops, forgot what I just read!!Have Fun,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  2. Hello, Here's one idea. On the front page of AVSIM for Monday's Downloads is AI Flight Planner V1.4. Grab that and follow the directions to decompile your traffic.bgl. Open the flightplans.txt file with notepad and do a search for VHHH. Compare the aircraft used in the flightplans with those in your aircraft.txt and whichever ones you want to go to Kai Tak change the VHHH to VHHX. VHHX may have to be added to the list of available airports. If I were you though, I would wait to do this until some of the guys who are a little more familiar with AI in FSX give you some suggestions and/or tell you whether my idea sucks or not.Good Luck,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1

  4. Thank you Peter. I joke about my wife not being interested in Flight Sim, which she indeed is not, but, she supports me 100% in my enjoyment of it including the money spent on it, so I really am very lucky. Except for the dang frantic stupity. LOLAnd Noel, I just fired up the sim and flipped on bloom. I was panning around in spot view and jeez, I was almost blinded by a reflection of the Sun in a glass front bldg. It was really neat and pretty realistic. I looked around at all the lighting effects and saw no anomalies, no weirdness. I didn't do a long flight or anything, but did view the effects from all the positions I would through the duration of a flight without seeing any problems. It was quite a hit on performance though. Went from mid 30's in my particular testbed situation without bloom to high teens with bloom and no other changes. Hope this info helps in your decision!Blue Skies,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  5. It must vary by system. I have no problems with the lighting. The flight deck flood light can be operated from either one of three switches: 1 on overhead; 1 on lower pedestal; 1 on parking brake panel. Then there are panel lighting and digital lighting switches for each of the panels (except overhead only has panel lighting). Just stating that in case anybody might have missed a lighting switch.Good Luck,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  6. I have the Flight1 ATR 72-500 and I love it. Nice model, lots of systems simulated, nice 2D panel and VC. Comes with an extensive config manager. I don't suffer a frame rate hit at all in 2D or external views, only a small hit in the VC. The VC has 2 options, standard textures or high quality. It's very fun to fly. You might also wanna check out the Super80. I think it's very close to the LevelD and Pmdg for systems simulation. Very realistic feel in flight. Again, very nice 2D and VC. The cockpit training system is great for learning the aircraft right in the sim. And both come with excellent, full manuals. I love printing out a big AOM and digging in. They're working on the newer Super80 Pro with an FMC. This Super80 has the older Omega Navigation System, very neat.Hope this helps. I'm VERY, VERY picky about the add-ons I purchase and install, and do a lot of research before buying. But, these 2 are a permanent addition to my hanger, I highly recommend them. And with Flight1's return policy you can't go wrong.Good Luck,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  7. I haven't run light bloom yet. I have my scenery sliders and especially traffic turned up pretty high, I like busy skies. Since I hadn't had light bloom previously I figured I wouldn't miss it and I could probably keep performance up at my current settings if I left bloom off. However, since I've just re-installed everything and it's all pretty streamlined at the moment, I can flip it on tonight when I get home from work and see how well it works. I'll post here with my findings on performance and reliability.Until Then,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  8. I'm running FSX with SP2 in XP. I have no problems at all with it. Like I say I prefer to run SP2. I was testing and upgrading my system about 6 months ago and ran with SP1 for a bit. Then, while weighing the differences btwn the 2 service packs something in particular made me decide I was better off with SP2, but, I can't remember what. Now the add-ons I have are either fine with SP2 or specifically compatible with it. I wish I could remember what it was that sold the deal for me, it was one of those "oh, ok, I definitely want to run SP2" moments. Alas, my memory fails me. Like last night when, after doing a complete format and re-install of everything last week, I start up FSX and load a flight...I realize my toebrakes aren't working, and neither is the button on my yoke for parking brakes...what the heck??? I spent 15 mins testing control axis and assignments and buttons and levers....and then remembered I had added the hideinfotext=1 line to my fsx.cfg. What a Duh! moment. I even looked around to make sure my wife hadn't seen my frantic stupidity. I don't have to worry...she won't read this!!! She starts snoring when I start talking about my Flight Sim install, LOL!Good Luck,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  9. I uninstalled SP2 for FSX once. I didn't have any problems after doing so. I was trying to diagnose a problem that revealed itself while running FSX. Turned out to be a hardware issue. Since, I have gone back to using SP2. The changes from SP1 to SP2 seem to agree with my system and I like the enhancements SP2 implemented. Have you had problems running SP2 in the past? If so, what are your system specs? Just curious.Good Luck,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  10. Is your texture resolution set to 7cm? I thought I read in a forum post somewhere that Texture Res of 7cm automatically sets the Mesh Res to 10m. For the life of me though I can't remember where I saw that. I'm pretty sure it was a post by NickN. I just read it a couple of days ago, too. I guess it'a true what they say, the mind really is the first to go.Good Luck,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  11. Hello all,Kevin:I joined the AOPA a couple of months ago and it was $39 a year. Kind of surprised me that it was that inexpensive. There is a wealth of information and resources available on their website and the monthly magazine is very nice. They have membership geared toward flight training for student pilots as well, this is what I signed up for. After simming for 21 years maybe it's time I learn to do the real thing. Sorry to highjack the thread. Just wanted to answer Kevin's question since it's fresh in my head.Thank you,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1

  13. I'm using the CH Rudder Pedals and yes the toe brake is digital proportional. I did not have to use FSUIPC to set it up. Haven't had experience with the Saitek brand, but I would assume they also apply gradually.Good Luck,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  14. And I believe I did see on the CoolSky site about a discount for Super80 owners. What a fantastic aircraft for Flightsim. I love the kind of realism packed into the current Super80.Thank you,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1

  17. Maybe you guys should compare what sound cards you all have? Maybe drivers as well. I fly the Goose a lot and switch btwn views a lot. Haven't had that problem with the Goose or any other aircraft in FSX. 20. Greetings to all, I see a heat shimmer effect in the library for FS9. Will that work in FSX? I hate to assume it will and be wrong, so I ask first. If it does not is there one that will work for FSX? Thank you,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  21. Hello,I believe AIFlightplanner by Don Grovestine here in the library will do what you are asking about. Search the library in FSX Utilities, it should be there.Thank you,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  22. I just wanted to clearify my post from earlier. My only concern is whether or not adding combat to Flight Sim would have an adverse effect on the sim in any way. For example having to limit features or systems simulations or degrading performance in any way. If it doesn't then I suppose it doesn't matter. I would just think that if Flight Sim and a Combat Flight Sim were developed seperately more attention to detail could be programmed into each one. Of course if it could be done without sacrifice we would have to spend less money!;) But then if MS does seperate titles they make more sales because they're selling two titles. I guess we know which way MS would go. Would adding combat change the rating of the sim? Like from being rated for all ages to mature or someting?Thank you,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  23. I agree with Jeff. I really enjoy combat flight sims, but, I like MSFS for the recreation of GA and commercial flight. I also think that to make a "hybrid" military-civil simulator, quality would have to be affected somewhere in there. You might lose some features of either-or to have both. I like as much realism as I can get, and despite the fact that I'm not a r/w pilot, I enjoy full systems simulation. I'd hate to lose that just to be able to blow something up. That being said, I really liked Jane's USAF. That was a fun combat sim.Thank you,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  24. Excellent help as always gentlemen.Yeah, it's a lot easier to tell if you have an update to a particular airport if you can just scan through the codes in alphabetical order.I also have AFX and am getting Instant Scenery this weekend. I want to start updating the airports in my area of Southwest Florida. So, I really appreciate all the additional info. As soon as I build one spare computer and then add a hard drive to my FS computer, reformat and re-install I'll finally be able to get started on those airports. Which I'm sure will bring up further questions ;)Thanks Again,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  25. Hi All, I put all my "afcad" files in my add-onscenery/scenery folder. Different authors use different naming methods. I would like to re-name them to their four letter ICAO code. Can I just re-name them as I install them before loading flightsim?. I can't imagine it would be a problem but I sure hate to assume! Can someone enlighten me?Thanks in advance for your help,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA-3GB/S HDWindows XP SP2 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
