  1. A sad loss for his family and our community. R.I.P. Mr. Marshal.Sincerely,Kail
  2. Anybody who has had anything to do with the development of Flight Sim over the years has made a great and welcomed impact on my life, especially if they were so integral to the development. It's a shame that I'll never have the oppurtunity to say "Thank You" to Mr. Lacey. It's a horrible tragedy that he's left this Earth too soon leaving behind loved ones. R.I.P. Steve Lacey. My sincere condolences to your family and friends. And, Thank You.Kail
  3. Hello,If you have Flight 1's Ultimate Traffic 2 there is an additional little utility they put out called UT2 Power Pack. If I read the directions right you can convert ttools style flight plans to UT2 Flight Plans which follow waypoints. I don't know, however, if you can create SIDS/STARS for them to follow.Good Luck,Kail
  4. Hello, You might want to look in the scenery folders of any addon scenery you might have installed. I went throught the same thing after I installed the very nice freeware Daytona Beach scenery from here in the library. There was an included traffic file in the scenery. I think there was also one in the Aerosoft Tahiti Scenery that made default airlines show up.Good Luck,Kail
  5. Hello All, I no longer have room to store FS history. I have a bunch of Flight Sim addons going back to Flight Sim for Windows '95! Including Aircraft Factory '99; Apollo Flight Shop for Flight Sim 5.x and Windows '95; various versions of Flight Deck and even versions of Flight Sim itself going back to at least '95. Since I assume there is no Flight Simulator Museum, I figured I'd see if anyone here wants my old FS collection for any reason. If so, please let me know here by Sunday the 25th of July. I can get together a list of titles if desired. Have a great day and good sim flying.
  6. Hello, Yes, this is true. After SP2 for FSX I believe, aircraft ground shadows will cause AI aircraft made for FS9 not to visually appear at add-on airport sceneries that use custom ground textures.Thank you,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB SATA-3GB/S HD for O/SWD 160GB SATA 3GB/S HD for FSXWindows XP64 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  7. YES!!! Excellent point Jeff. That's very important. On that second partition of mine I also have a folder named "FSX Payware." I have folders for each publisher, i.e: Flight1, Aerosoft, etc. Then in those I have folders for the individual products with the executables and any updates or required additional files. I create a text file in each folder containing the serial number. I save the FSX Payware folder to hard drives on multiple computers. Reinstall is a snap!Thank you,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB SATA-3GB/S HD for O/SWD 160GB SATA 3GB/S HD for FSXWindows XP SP3 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  8. Hi,I routinely reformat my computer and re-install Flight Sim. Usually about every 4-6 months. I'll just describe what I do and you can take from that what helps you. To start with if you are reinstalling Flight Sim you will not only have to reinstall the service packs, you will need to uninstall SP2 first. I reformat because I like a clean environment for Flight Sim to start out in.If you don't have a drive dedicated for FSX you might want to consider that. It's a great way to keep your FS install from getting cluttered. You can see from my Sig that I have two drives. The 1st one I have partitioned into C: for operating system and programs, the 2nd partition, D: is for storage of FS addons but also where I keep my active AFCADs and addon scenery. On my D: drive I created a folder called "Airport Facilities" and put all my AFCADs and scenery that only consists of 1 or 2 .bgl files in it. I renamed all of them to start with their ICAO identifier code to make it easier to avoid duplicate sceneries. I also created a folder called "Additional Scenery" and place all addon scenery package folders in this folder. Some of the scenery bgls in my Airport Facilities folder require object libraries. I put those library folders in the Additional Scenery folder. Then in Flight Sim I activate the Object Library folders and then the whole Airport Facilities folder. Then I add and activate the individual scenery folders within the Additional Scenery folder in the order that I wish. When I need to reformat and reinstall I just move those two folders via network to another computer and move them back when I'm done.I can go through those folders and delete stuff I don't like or use and can keep things cleaned up.If you uninstall Flight Sim some files will remain. You can delete the Flight Sim folder after the uninstall. But, if you can reformat you won't have to uninstall or delete anything! Just back-up everything you want to keep.Actually I'm in the process of upgrading from XP 32bit to XP 64bit. I'm reactivating all of my scenery and reinstalling addon aircraft at this time when I get home from work.Sorry for the long post, from reading your post I thought detailing my procedure for this might help you. I hope it does.Good Luck,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB SATA-3GB/S HD for O/SWD 160GB SATA 3GB/S HD for FSXWindows XP SP3 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  9. Hello,There is a utility for creating custom shipping traffic in FSX. I believe it is called AI Boat Traffic Creator by Lamont Clark. Keep in mind that if you're using custom aircraft AI utilizing FS9 format flight plans your shipping and ferry traffic won't show up in the sim. Good Luck,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB SATA-3GB/S HD for O/SWD 160GB SATA 3GB/S HD for FSXWindows XP SP3 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  10. I don't know of any program to do that. You probably have quite a few add-on aircraft then? What you could do is move all of those aircraft out of the simobjects/aircraft folder, then, before you start FSX just move the aircraft you want to fly back into the folder. That should reduce the load time of the aircraft selection screen.Happy Trails,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB SATA-3GB/S HD for O/SWD 160GB SATA 3GB/S HD for FSXWindows XP SP3 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1

  12. Hello, Yes. When you run the .exe that you d/l you will be prompted to purchase the product through the Flight1 Wrapper. It's very easy to purchase stuff from Flight1. I would recommend setting up a Flight1 account and then logging in when you purchase, you'll see what I mean when you go to install. Logging in when purchasing from them makes it even easier to re-install later should the need arise. I live in the U.S. and I have purchased a few items from Flight1, both d/l and on disc. Couldn't be any easier or more reliable.Have Fun,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB SATA-3GB/S HD for O/SWD 160GB SATA 3GB/S HD for FSXWindows XP SP3 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  13. Hello, Jeff probably hit the nail right on the head. The only times my FSX installation wouldn't start up it's been the logbook.bin file. In My Documents/FSX Files you can pull that file out and try to load FSX. If it loads then you might want to grab a couple of utilities out of the file library: one will fix corrupted entries in the logbook and there is one that will let you edit your logbook. Searching for "logbook" here in the file library under FlightSim X should turn up what you need. These two utilities were also mentioned in another recent thread here in the FSX forum.Good Luck,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB SATA-3GB/S HD for O/SWD 160GB SATA 3GB/S HD for FSXWindows XP SP3 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  14. Hi, In the main section of your fsx.cfg add the following line to remove all the red text such as view and brakes: HideInfoText=1 I don't know about just left brake, right brake and such.Have Fun,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB SATA-3GB/S HD for O/SWD 160GB SATA 3GB/S HD for FSXWindows XP SP3 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  15. Hi, I don't think you're crazy. When I first switched to using FSX, before I had any addons, I took a flight in the default Goose from where I live in Southwest Florida up and over to Fairbanks Alaska via some places I've lived or visited in Missouri, Illinois, South Dakota etc. In FS2002, I flew the default Kingair 350 from SW Florida up through the U.S., with a couple of fuel stops, to Yellowknife, NW Territories Canada. Then over to Eastern Canada and across to Greenland, Iceland, England, down to Cairo, a stop in Riyad Suadi Arabia, over to Bangkok, up to Japan. I was going to continue up to Eastern Russia and across to Alaska and back to Yellowknife, but, FS2004 came out and....well. Enjoy your flight and maybe throw some screenshots in the screenshot forum here if you get a chance.Cheers,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB SATA-3GB/S HD for O/SWD 160GB SATA 3GB/S HD for FSXWindows XP SP3 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  16. I believe TAS varies from IAS, as a rule of thumb, by 2% per 1000ft of altitude. So 100kts IAS at 10000ft would be 120kts TAS, and then figure winds into the equation. Perhaps someone with real knowledge could correct or expand upon my post, as I'm only going by memory of something I read. 17. Hello, Right here in the Avsim file library you'll find Airport Design Editor. It's an excellent freeware program that will allow you to redesign airports in FSX. I believe you need the Deluxe version of FSX though with the SDK installed. If you don't have the Deluxe version of FSX you might have to look at Flight1's AFX. It is similar to ADE except for some functions and it is payware. If you look into AFX you probably want to look at Instant Scenery as well. It is also by Flight1 and the 2 go hand in hand. Remember too, you can try these programs risk free from Flight1 cause they have a money back guarantee for 30 days I believe. There is also another freeware program, I think it's called FSXplanner? I'm not sure if that one requires the FSX SDK or not. I'm not familiar with that program.Hope this helps,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB SATA-3GB/S HD for O/SWD 160GB SATA 3GB/S HD for FSXWindows XP SP3 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  18. Hello all, So, the night before last I ran a defrag on my FSX drive. Last night I got home from work and went to fly but FS wouldn't start. I got a "Fatal Error" message. I pulled the logbook, no luck, the FSX.cfg, no luck, scenery.cfg, no luck. Then I tried a repair using the disc. After that I got a message stating that Flight Sim could not load some programs and I should run a repair or remove. Now I'll have to uninstall all my add-ons and FSX. I have the Deluxe edition so I have the SDK installed on my O/S and programs drive. My 2 questions are:1: I'm assuming I have to re-install the SDK as well. Is that correct?2: It's alright to have FSX on it's own drive and the SDK installed on the O/S drive isn't it? That's how I had it but I haven't needed to use the SDK since installing FSX on it's own drive.Thank you for any help anyone provides.Have a Great Day,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB SATA-3GB/S HD for O/SWD 160GB SATA 3GB/S HD for FSXWindows XP SP3 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  19. Hello, There are custom sound sets for AI aircraft of various models available. A search in the file library should turn up some options. I edited the sound.cfg file of my AI aircraft to alias the closest FSX default AI sounds. So all my AI 737's have the sound.cfg edited to read: "alias=b737-800/soundai" and so forth with the other models.Good Luck,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB SATA-3GB/S HD for O/SWD 160GB SATA 3GB/S HD for FSXWindows XP SP3 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  20. Hi John,I know exactly what you mean. I would go into the optionscontrolsbuttons and keys menu and there should be a section about radios - I apologize, I'm at work and unable to acces FS - you might wanna scroll down and look for the number 1 key listed in the keyboard commands row. Then you should be able to select it and add a controller button as you desire.Good Luck,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB SATA-3GB/S HD for O/SWD 160GB SATA 3GB/S HD for FSXWindows XP SP3 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  21. Hi Greg, I fly it in FSX SP2. I am very, VERY, picky about what add-ons I'll use, and I have enjoyed the 737PIC. Nice looking model, good number of systems simulated, and I haven't run in to any snags. 23. I'm in the U.S. and if someone makes a high quality model with realistic systems simulation then I'm in whatever the aircraft is.I'd just have to do some flying in new and exciting places I guess:).That'd be a good aircraft for the Carribean, too.KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB SATA-3GB/S HD for O/SWD 160GB SATA 3GB/S HD for FSXWindows XP SP3 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
  24. Did you have Service Pack 2 installed for FSX? If I remember correctly that has it's own uninstall operation. If you have SP2 installed and run the executable for SP2 again it will give you the option to uninstall or repair that as well.As a side note, I just added an FSX dedicated drive to my rig as well. I was a lot more comfortable formatting and re-installing O/S and everything. Nice clean install. I have a good deal of add-ons so it was no easy task, as in it took a week to get it all re-installed and back where I had it before, but it was well worth it. Some may not have this option understandably.Good Luck,KailFlightSimmer since 1987C2D E6850 3.0GHz 1333FSBXFX Nforce 680i LT SLI2x XFX 8800GT 512MB SLI'd4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 800MHzCreative SB Audigy2 ZSUltra Xfinity 600W SLI PSUSeagate 320GB SATA-3GB/S HD for O/SWD 160GB SATA 3GB/S HD for FSXWindows XP SP3 / FSX SP2 / FS9 SP1
