  1. Because I think it is a realistic expectation that there will be more 787's modelled, given time? My comment was merely expressing that we seem to have so many Boeings modelled over and above everything else(and I would say when Airsimmer and the other Airbus are released, we will have the same situation with them). Granted, they may be the worlds biggest aircraft mfr, but don't forget there are lots of other ones out there! 2. I'll second that - for the life of me, I cannot figure out this need for Boeings and Airbuses being done by different teams over and over - don't get me wrong, I think there are some really good ones out there, but I'd much rather a high quality BAE than another 757, 777 or even 787. 3. It was almost certainly the case back in Win98 - a desktop with lots of content would slow a PC down to a crawl and eat up the memory. XP (if not W2K) fixed that.Leo Godalming UKhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpgMain PC:MSI P6N PlatinumXFX GeForce 512MB 8800 GTSQuad Core E6600 @2.4GHz3GB Corsair PC2-6400WD 250GB for Flight SimHitachi Deskstar 500GB - Dedicated FSXP, Regular XP and Vista2nd PC/WideFS:Asus P4V800D-XRadeon 9800 (256MB)Pentium IV 3.2 HT1GB DDR WD2500 250GB - XP
  4. Seemed to be the biggest improvement was turning down the max texture slider in FS options.. I really didnt see any noticeable difference between 8 and 16X AA - looked much of a muchness, and the jaggy problem certainly wasnt greater or (perceiviably) less.Go for the mobo - I really like it, but I've not had much success with overclocking - I put this down to poor ventilation though. Its much better when o/c'ed in the middle of our spare room, but that is hardly practical :) TBH, I rarely use FSX, but in DX9 mode, I can run everything midway quite well. I think another post somewhere here on the fora suggested FS9 for Heavies, FSX for low and slow - I would agree with that. Its on my Vista partition (itself pretty irregularly used), as I wanted the DX10 bells and whistles - but I cannot seem to get AA going with the Nvidia drivers, so DX10 is a no no for me (though the latest drivers may have fixed that, I couldn't honestly say).Shame really, as I also got World in Conflict - and that has absolutely gorgeous DX10 graphics. Despite the complaints of Vista (and there are some justified, IMO), DX10 when it works really is quite impressive - (almost) worth the investment in Vista...Leo Godalming UKhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpgMSI P6N PlatinumXFX GeForce 512MB 8800 GTSQuad Core E6600 @2.4GHz3GB Corsair PC2-6400WD 250GB for Flight SimHitachi Deskstar 500GB - Dedicated FSXP, Regular XP and Vista
  5. OK, well I have managed to get a fix to Nhancer (newer version!) to fix the problems I was having with the earlier version not aliasing properly. Seems that fiddling with some of those settings is having some benefit, though it still remains particularly noticeable on the E-Jet (thats not intended to be a critisism, just an observation, overall its a fine plane!). 6. Anyway, I'd like to say it is quite normal. - meh, not what I was hoping to hear!! I'm going to have a try with the other settings, but I am at max res now - 1280x1024. It does look like blurring the textures may be having a slight effect, but will plug away with the other suggestions. 7. Yup, those small updates are, AFAIK, under the bonnet security changes, and really only affect computers in a domain scenario. The yellow shield is usually there to tell you that updates are either downloading, or have downloaded and are ready to install. If you right click on it, what does it say/show? 8. I'd say only if reinstalling XP from new - integrating SP3 into your install disc is tons quicker than downloading all the fixes post SP2. I use WME, (and also the SDK, that will let you batch encode) and the results are perfectly acceptable, even left to the default values.HTH, LeoLeo Godalming UKhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpgMSI P6N PlatinumXFX GeForce 512MB 8800 GTSQuad Core E6600 @2.4GHz3GB Corsair PC2-6400WD 250GB for Flight SimHitachi Deskstar 500GB - Dedicated FSXP, Regular XP and Vista
  10. Hi all,Well, first off, apologies if I've posted in the wrong forum - it's a sort of hardware issue (8800 GTS 512), but more driver related. Please see the attached - this is really noticeable (and annoying) when in flight - spot viewing from angles gives this rather unpleasant jaggies across the wing (and this paint nicely shows off the problem on the fin too). If I look straight down, though, the lines are crisp and sharp. It'll happen on the ground and in the air; I've also noticed taxilines and runways exhibit the same problem. I've found that if I zoom in to 1x, then the edges are rendered fine, but as soon as I zoom out more than 2x, then they'll appear (happens in VC too, can attach screenshot of that if it helps). Again, all other AA seems to be fine - the aircraft body, for example, renders just fine, as does scenery buildings, even zooming out to max - it just seems to be the finer detailed lines etc that exhibit this problem.I'm using the standard Nvidia Control panel (I have tried using Nhancer, but I've not really been able to get this to work - I end up with really bad aliasing), and AA set to 8Q, AF to 16. I'm using the 169.xx drivers, and haven't upgraded as the 175.xx break Remote Desktop access, which I need to have. I did notice, though, that the problem continues on these later versions, so I think its a setting rather than the driver version. I'm on XP SP3, and it's FS9.Other than this (annoying) problem, FS runs really really well on the rig! 12. I think what DarkKnight means is changing the a/c names in the plane selection menu ?If so, then all you need to do is change each a/c's entry in the aircraft.cfg;eg the default Boeing 747 aircraft.cfg you have ui_manufacturer=Boeing - change that to ui_manufacturer=Big PlaneYou would probably also have to go thru and edit each of the title= as well, since these have to be unique, and would be the only way to identify each aircraft model/mfr/paint.But, I agree with Roby - why would you want to do that? I would have thought a very timeconsuming excercise with no perceived benefit. But each to their own, I guess.Hope that helps,Leo Godalming UKhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpgMSI P6N PlatinumXFX GeForce 512MB 8800 GTSQuad Core E6600 @2.4GHz3GB Corsair PC2-6400WD 250GB for Flight SimHitachi Deskstar 500GB - Dedicated FSXP, Regular XP and Vista
  13. >>There is a need for my comments. The number of posts in this>forum relating to PSS robbing people are numerous and a>reflection on society where instead of taking responsability>for ones own actions everyone looks to blame somebody else.>>Regards>Russell Jourdain (ANZ007/ZK-RHJ)Russell, I find this comment particularly ironic given that PSS were happy to blame pirates and anything else OTHER than their (in)actions. From botched initial releases, incomplete software, poor Maltese internet connections, broken patches, broken promises, accusatory and rude comments to their paying customers suggesting the problems found lay with the end user's configuration, rarely the planes themselves.Perhaps one cannot go so far as suggesting PSS robbed end users in the legal sense of the word, but their clear contempt and distrust for those paying customers I think cannot help but encourage those feelings. IMO, their "anti piracy" measures were at best ineffective, as we can now see from the extremely simple workaround legitimate users have open to them - to back up the content on their disk. A simple back up of folders bypasses the anti-piracy safeguards. At worst, these "measures" only served to irritate those legitimate customers - had I known such a simple workaround existed at the time, there is no way I would have bothered to keep the installers and wasted time redownloading all the files from their servers. I'd still have that content I paid to use. PSS/Gralin knew the writing was on the wall a long time before support ceased here - they were duty bound to at least advise customers of the importance/need of backing up. That's just basic courtesy to someone. Some years ago, I remember another addon developer warning customers that they couldn't depend on their servers being used as a backup for end users anymore - they had the courtesy to warn users. Sure, they got flack for charging this extended download service, but at least they showed their customers they cared enough rather than saying (or not) "we will just let you find out for yourselves you cannot download from us anymore". I didn't download, and paid for the extended download service. I've backed up now.Additionally - FFS. Remember them and their nice SAAB? They warned their customers to back up before they went off line. They demonstrated a concern that users have access to what they paid for after they went under. I still have that, bugs and all. I can still reinstall it, exactly because they warned me that not backing up ran the very real risk of losing the software. So to say the responsibility to backup lies solely with the end user..well, there's a couple of precedents right there of providers giving their customers warning that downloads won't be possible in future. Had PSS bothered to forewarn their customers of their impending demise and how to ensure their products would be available after shutting down their servers, I am sure we would not have the level of complaints and accusations seen here. Whether or not PSS come back, I am now beyond caring. I've written off the
  14. Hi Max,Yeah, sort of. I've built a new PC that has an XP partition for everyday stuff, then a (very) stripped down version of XP, which I've removed as much unneeded stuff as possible - services, default XP apps, all that, so I get the best of both worlds that way. The old (redundant machine) runs RC4, AS6, FS Commander and FS build via Widefs. I've also configured the whole thing so I can surf on the second machine whilst the first sits off t'interweb, but maintains network connectivity - thus bypassing the need for AV etc - since I am careful about what websites I go to and emails I open, see no need for this anyway.Leo Godalming UKhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpgMSI P6N PlatinumXFX GeForce 512MB 8800 GTSQuad Core E6600 @2.4GHz3GB Corsair PC2-6400WD 250GB for Flight SimHitachi Deskstar 500GB - Dedicated FSXP, Regular XP and Vista

  18. Hi all,Originally posted this on the Saitek forums, but I am guessing I may have more luck here as someone (hopefully) is more likely to have this configuration on here...I am having a problem that whenever I have the pedals plugged in, and switch to either WAF view, the camera seems to turn 360 degrees horizontally - if I unplug the pedals, then I can pan the camera normally. I cannot obviously see what's causing the problem - WAF has hardcoded the pan up/down to the HOME and END keys - but I don't see anywhere, either within SST or FS commands (which I cleared anyway), what may be causing this. I also have FSUIPC registered, and did not see in there anything which may be causing the problem. Interestingly, within FS assignments, HOME and END show as NUM 7 and NUM 2, and the regular NUM7 and NUM2 show as they should. At the moment, the pedal movement is detected without any command input, bar the toe brakes (reversed). Anyone else found this, and found a fix? I would ask IGFly if they are intending an update to allow configurable keys for up/down panning, but they dont seem to answer to support queries.Has anyone else experienced this problem and managed to find a fix? I can get round it by unplugging the pedals, but its not really idealUsual info - FS9 (not using FSX), XPSP2, whole Pro Flight kaboodle (working otherwise absolutely fine and brilliantly; cannot recommend the kit enough bar this niggle). Problem happens with any aircraft, default, pay or free ware and any scenery. Many thanks,Leo Godalming UKhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg

Hi Nelson,Did a quick search on this - try the following;Start-->Run-->cmd then click OK...this will put you in the command prompt, type the following command:netsh int ip reset c:reset_tcpip.txtreboot and see if the blue screen continues. If you still have problems:Reinstalling SP2 should get you a new tcpip.sys.Leo Godalming UKhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg..and I think my friends are sad 'cause they DON'T use Flight sim...
  20. I guess at least with the CD you've got a version that has an offline installer. Hindsight being what it is (see my other post here), I would probably have plumped for a CD version of both T7 and '57.You're still no better off in terms of paying for an incomplete product, though.Leo Godalming UK
  21. Hi Jim,I tend to ignore System Restore (imo, waste of resources..)What I did was install to FS as normal, but use a bit of kit, installwatch that takes a snapshot; here though is where it may have gone wrong; I have two installs of XP, one for everyday, where installwatch is located, and another specifically for FS - just about everything unneeded in XP stripped out from the outset, minimal AV etc. Both look at the same partition for Flight Sim, so I can install on the everyday, take the snapshot, export out the registry, check for OS localised files etc and it *should* import back into the XP-FS, with all the requisite files etc in the correct referenced location. But it didnt really work for me this way, I'd get CTD's, hangs or general "weirdness". I found the only way to reliably have it work was to reinstall via the PSS server download method. Maybe it was just me, and perhaps it was a convoluted way of doing it that caused it to go wrong, I don't know. Notwithstanding, I think we need to have an official method rather than these hacks and workarounds that we're seeing at the moment.Leo Godalming UKhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
  22. >I have to ask - has anone tried uninstalling their PSS>products and copying the installation folders over? Does it>all work correctly? Are there not XP/Vista registry entries>that need to be created for this?>Yes, I think there are. I tried to do this, and it seems all was not quite right. Would get some errors trying to use the 757 after a registry reimport. Welcome to the reality of Digital Restrictions Management - I fully support a company's right to protect their IP, but not if it means I lose out as a consequence, which is what it looks like may have happened here.Leo Godalming UKhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
