Double FPS in windowed mode?
Trans_27 Pilot Chase replied to Trans_27 Pilot Chase's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
I'll check my nvidia inspector settings. After reformatting, I've had nothing but performance issues. Where I once would lock at 30 frames while on the ground, I now only manage low to mid teens. The last couple of months has been very annoying. For what it's worth, I use the in game frame counter and run in DX9. I'm currently planning a new build. I'm stuck between the 4790k or jumping on the Skylake bandwagon but regardless of what I choose, this hopefully won't be an issue much longer. -
Going from full screen to windowed mode more than doubles my frames mid flight in the virtual cockpit. Is this just one of those FSX-isms? I can't stand windowed mode, but I have been having performance issues since reformatting my computer. Does anyone knows of a tweak that will enable me to get this performance in full screen? I've tweaked my CFG per the AVSIM guide.

Sorry for the late response, Gents. A ton of things came up for work last week. I checked my startup programs and have less than 10 that boot. The ones that boot are for my sound card, video card and a MS service. Video card is also in the same slot that it has always been in. I'm tossing around the idea of moving to P3D v3 and also building a new system. This one is going on three years old. I recently updatec the BIOS Firmware and after, lost my ability to manually change my CPU Speed. I'm now limited to Stock, Overclock level 1 and level 2... Thanks Dell.

About a month ago, I reformatted my computer and installed 2 new SSDs. One for the OS and one for FSX. Ever since reformatting and installing the new drives, my frames on the ground have been horrible until I reach a higher altitude. I know this might make sense, but I have never had a performance issue with my system. I have always stayed locked at 30 unless I'm pulling through multiple layers of clouds. A clean Windows 7 install was performed without any issues. On the ground, I'm averaging in the low teens as to where I was locked at 30 before. FSX has been tweaked using the AVSIM guide and all sliders are where they were before. Anyone have a direction that they can point me in to get this issue corrected? I use the PMDG 737 and 777, A320/321, REX4 and Soft Clouds and Orbx Global with Vector. Alienware Aurora i7-3820 @ 4.2 8GB Ram 2x 250GB Samsung Evo. GTX970

Done with Windows 10 (unfortunately)
Trans_27 Pilot Chase replied to Trans_27 Pilot Chase's topic in WIN10 OS Forum
I reformatted my drive and installed from a usb and couldn't even get the sim to install. I've thrown the towel in.. My desktop is staying on windows 7, everything else in the house is on 10 (laptops and surface.) I'm happy enough with the SSD upgrades. From the time I press the power button to the time that I'm looking at my desktop is under 30 seconds. -
Done with Windows 10 (unfortunately)
Trans_27 Pilot Chase replied to Trans_27 Pilot Chase's topic in WIN10 OS Forum
I just installed two new SSDs. One for windows and one specifically for FSX. I installed windows 10 without doing the "upgrade" but rather a clean install. I'm currently trying to get FSX to install, if I can't get it to install or work without complications, I'm reformatting and installing windows 7 and completely giving up with the new OS. -
When I first upgraded a week or so ago, FSX would not progress beyond the splash screen without giving a fatal error and crashing. I tried right clicking and running as an administrator, I attempted running in compatibility mode for numerous versions of windows and I still was unable to enter the sim beyond the splash screen. I reverted back to windows 7 and all was normal again. Yesterday, I reformatted my hard drive and updated windows 7 and then updated to Windows 10 thinking I would have a different experience. The first hitch came when the dvd installer wouldn't even begin to write the files. After numerous install attempts and no progress being made, I threw in the towel and purchased FSX steam edition. Install went along fine with no issues. After the install had completed, I returned to my desk top, double clicked the FSX icon and.... Absolutely the same as before. The splash screen comes up, then displays a fatal error and crashes. Same as before, I've attempted numerous compatibility modes and scoured the Internet for a fix and I have come up empty handed. I am running the latest nvidia driver for windows 10 (I read that this could cause an issue if running an older version.) I'm just throwing my hands up at this point. I am extremely frustrated with the whole ordeal. I love the overall look and feel of windows 10 and would love to be running it, but I have come to the conclusion that there is something system specific that is causing me this issue. Very disappointing... I have read plenty of positive reviews in regards to FSX and W10 working well with each other and I was really hoping to take part in the experience, but it I'm afraid that I'll be sitting this one out on the sidelines.

Fsx box edition not opening windows 10
Trans_27 Pilot Chase replied to DcoltGaming's topic in WIN10 OS Forum
I had the same issue when I first upgraded to windows 10. I'd start it and it would just hang on the splash screen and that was as far as I could get. I couldn't figure it out and finally decided "if it's not broke, then don't fix it" and reverted back to windows 7. I reformatted last night and finally have W10 up and running on a clean install. I attempted to install FSX and the installer seemed to hang up. Closed the installer and tried again, same result. I finally threw in the towel and purchased FSX:SE which is downloading now.. Fingers crossed. -
Here's my question: I ordered two new SSD's this evening. I currently run Windows 7 and FSX from a 500GB Hybrid drive with a 1TB as my secondary drive. Last week, I installed the upgrade to Windows 10 and reverted back to W7 after having some issues with FSX. I blame all of this due to not doing a clean install. Since I activated Windows 10, has my computer already registered with MS as having an active W10 key even though I reverted back? I'm under the impression that there is a code on my motherboard that was recognized and saved by microsoft in the event that I need to reinstall on a new drive. I've been searching the web but haven't found a direct answer. My thinking is that I can create a W10 USB using the Media Creation Tool available from Microsoft. After completing this, I can replace my 500GB Primary drive with the new SSD, install my 2nd SSD and format my two drives that I currently have and move them into the 3rd and 4th bays. I'm just trying to make sure that I can install the W10 upgrade on a new drive in my current computer.

SHE HAS ARRIVED - Flight Deck Solutions B737NG
Trans_27 Pilot Chase replied to Mike_CFII_MEL's topic in Home Cockpit Builders
Mike, CONGRATS! I'm excited for you! Can't wait to see the finished product. -
Kyle, Can you please post the link to this? I just looked, but didn't see the pinned post that you're referring to. Not sure if I'm looking in the right place or not, but I looked in the 737 forum as well as the General section of the PMDG forum. Thanks, EDIT: Disregard... It performs as designed when you ensure that there is precipitation around.

Windows 10 THIS MONTH! Questions for FSX
Trans_27 Pilot Chase replied to spilok's topic in WIN10 OS Forum
Any changes with performance? Im glad to hear that everything is working well, W10 is sounding promising. No compatibility issuea with PMDG or anything else? Just finished picking out parts for a new system, they are currently sitting in my newegg cart. Im itching to buy tonight but I know Ill regret it if I dont wait for the new intel chips. My other option is to update my current system with an SSD and W10 and get another year or two out of it. No issues with my current system, runs stable with an OC of 4.2, just wouldnt mind having an new system. Sorry for the lack of punctuation, Im using my Surface to type. -
Windows 10 THIS MONTH! Questions for FSX
Trans_27 Pilot Chase replied to spilok's topic in WIN10 OS Forum
Rich, Any positives/negatives from the upgrade? I've had my computer for two years, I'm considering dropping in an SSD, moving some drives around and doing a fresh install of W10 once it's released. Like everyone else, I'm just wondering if there is any drawbacks and if I'll regret the upgrade. How has your experience been thus far? I'm a PMDG user as well. -
CPU speed looks good. From what I've read, the GTX970 is comparable to the 780. Take that with a grain of salt, though. I don't follow hardware nearly as much as I used to. So yes, I'd assume you'd see an increase from the 680. Google GTX 970 vs GTX 980. You'll find a site that compares the specs. That should give you a basic idea from what it looks like on paper. Yeah it is. I was a little nervous about getting one with "coil whine" but I didn't. Perfectly silent. Very happy with my purchase.

Razbam: $10 each at PC Aviator

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up. I like the Metroliner, just haven't picked it up because I'd hardly operate it. For 10$ though, it's a steal. Picking it up now. -

Wow... I hope you're right about it being close to being completed. Looks great! -
I want to say that any app like that will carry a subscription charge. I use airnav.com on my ipad when I fly. Just open up the charts that you need in different tabs and switch between them as needed.

Haven't seen or heard anything else since they announced it. I don't even know if they had started development when they had announced it.

If You Were Offered a Free Home Cockpit...
Trans_27 Pilot Chase replied to Groovin_DC-10's topic in Hangar Chat
Easy decision for me... 777 All the way. Except for the larger size of the aircraft, it out performs the 737 in every way, stops on a dime, when lightly loaded (flying a typical 737 route) it takes off quicker thanks to that thrust, climbs like a bat out of haydees, and smokes the 737 in other performance values (pretty much all of them, agreed?). And it doesn't have an issue with short strips... Just don't plan departing off of the 5500ft strip if you're going on a 10 hour flight. ^_^
