  1. Does this apply to Shaders? I don't think so?. If I want to revert to not using Environment Force, for instance, I not only have to stop the DLL running, but also delete Shaders so that P3D rebuilds them. Pete
  2. Maybe Win10 does the scaling properly, then. Win7 didn't. I might try it next time I boot up the VFR PC. Pete
  3. Not the DPI but the text size. Yes, you can, but then with some types of Dialogues the text overruns the size of the window created, which doesn't seem to automatically change with Windows set text size. But I manage okay as it is. I tend to prefer editing files rather than menus, once I know what each item does. Pete
  4. I have a 55" curved Samsung TV dedicated solely to my VFR cockpit, and that looks superb in UHD with P3D4. The UE55KS9000, which admittedly was £1600 (30 months ago now, probably the equivalent is cheaper now), but then even if such existed as a computer monitor it would be no where near such a price. with "4k" (really UHD) TVs you get much better "bang for the buck" as the saying goes. My only trouble us trying to read the miniscule text in the menus! So I set them just once and leve them (in favour of CFG editing) to save having to put my nose too close to the screen! 😉 Pete
  5. I have a 9900K without HT. HT is always an option - check the BIOS. you can turn it on and off. HT useful for those processors with 4 cores or less, but otherwise it can impose an overhead you don't want, as well as more heat. My 9900K is running at 5.5GHz, with the cache at 5.0GHz and DRAM at 3.6GHz. Mind you, I am using liquid cooling with an external cooling system attached! 😉 Sorry, no monitor or TV here -- three projectors and a 210 degree FOV curved screen! 😉 Pete
  6. This is interesting: https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/aim_html/chap4_section_4.html Section a says clearance by ATC "IS NOT AUTHORIZATION FOR A PILOT TO DEVIATE FROM ANY RULE, REGULATION, OR MINIMUM ALTITUDE NOR TO CONDUCT UNSAFE OPERATION OF THE AIRCRAFT." then section b says: " If ATC issues a clearance that would cause a pilot to deviate from a rule or regulation, or in the pilot's opinion, would place the aircraft in jeopardy, IT IS THE PILOT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO REQUEST AN AMENDED CLEARANCE." So, does P2A allow / implement this? Note, looking further, i find this discussion on AVSIM where the above 'rules' seem to be contadicted, at least as far as SID "ceilings" The last post on that thread does qualify it somewhat: "On an SID, if ATC tells you to climb, usually it means you can climb, however, ATC is supposed to say "unrestricted" to lift any ambiguity, so it is better to double check." I would have thought descents would be far more critical. It's up to the PIC to keep the aircraft flying safely, and many lower altitude restrictions are for proper ground clearance and avoidance of encroaching on other designated paths. Pete
  7. For information, this was also in Win 7 (and therefore, I presume, also Win 8). Pete
  8. "Clear of active" (without 'the') appears in the "P2ATC commands.pdf" document I downloaded from a pinned thread here some time ago. (Sept 6 2017). Pete
  9. My 9900K at 5.5GHz is cooled by an external liquid cooler (by Koolance. Even under heavy load the max CPU temperatures being reached are less than 40C. The cache is clocked to 5.0 GHz, and the memory runs at 3.6GHz. The two 2080Ti's (SLI linked) aren't overclocked. They don't get used enough at present -- max loading about 40% each. Really I should have had a single Titan instead (it's the memory I need at present, not the speed -- 24Gb on the Titan, 22GB on two 2080Ti's. I am hoping that future versions of P3D, or perhaps MSFS, will make fuller use of the power of the GPUs in the video cards. To those who say what's the point of such a beast just to get 20 fps, the point is that with 3 P3D4 windows at 1920x1080, to provide the wraparound view, you immediately cut P3D performance by at least 50% Flying a 738 and prefering short flights (take-offs and landings are much more enjoyable than cruising), I spend a lot of time at or near the airports and I like them to look realistic -- with traffic densities close to reality. Rather than think in terms of frame rates, look for smoothness. Smooth 20fps is much better than stuttery 40 fps. Most places, and flying, I tend to get 30 fps (my limit, set by RTSS), but that isn't possible at Heathrow, or Schiphol (as another example) with the traffic levels I desire. Pete P.S. My system was expertly built for me by none other than Rob! 😉
  10. Same here with around 250+ AI and the ProSim737, and no on-screen cockpit, but 3 windows for the 210 degree view. The difference with my new overclocked system (9900K at 5.5Ghz) is that, as well as the AI increase I can obtain, it is smooth. Very pleased. Still some stutters over London itself though. Just not approaching Aerosoft Heathrow, not on finals, landing and taxiing. Pete
  11. Today I updated AIM and then the airlines and flights (OCI only). No problems it seemed --- till I ran P3D4. Then during loading P3D4 stopped twice reporting two separate instances of duplicate aircraft titles: "AIGAIM_Real Tonga Airline Harbin Y-12 - old logo" in AIG Flights\AIGAIM - OCI\SimObjects\AIGAIM_MCAI_Harbin_Y-12 and "AIGAIM_FedEx Express Boeing 777-200F" in AIG Flights\AIGAIM - OCI\SimObjects\AIGAIM_TFS_B777-200F I fixed these by deleting the later of the duplicates which each appear in the two specific AIRCRAFT.CFG files. However, I am concerned that they might re-appear next time I perform an update. I should add that this is the first ever problem I've had with AIM which is most certainly the best AI Traffic add-on ever for any of the FS/P3D family. And I have tried them all! Pete
  12. Ah, good! I was about to point you in those directions! Pete
  13. You run P3D4 as well, I take it? Pete
  14. In the latest version of FSUIPC (5.152) we have changed the way the "TargetFrameRate" facility for the traffic limiter works. As before, it only limits the traffic when the frame rate is lower than a set value, but now instead of using instananeous frame rate readings it uses a 2-3 second average. Then it reduces the amount of traffic a little at a time (10% of the current difference to the minimum set). That way you don't suddenly lose a load, and it allows the traffic level to find it's own value to assure you of the minimum frame rate you require. Using this, I can actually set the P3D airline traffic slider to 100% That way I get the best variety of aircraft and airlines, but still with my required frame rate. Pete
  15. Odd, then, that I have the opposite problem -- the AI sound is louder for me than my engine and other sounds, and in fact vibrates the cockpit so much that I get annoying rattles with it. This is only on the tarmac, when an AI starts up or taxies past near my aircraft. I generally have to halve the values -- down to about 4500. May be my difference is using ProSim 737 aircraft sounds. I don't know. Pete
  16. In each operating "soundAI.cfg" (I say 'operating' because a lot are just liks, "alias" ing the sound to another file), the are lines OutsideConeVolume=4800 These appear for each of the engine sound modes, but i think the overall control is by the one in the [FLTSIM] section. Pete
  17. I find that the sound levels for AI are usually far too high -- they drown my own aircraft cockpit sounds -- so I've adjusted most of those CFGs. I suppose this action will put them all back high again? Perhaps in a future version you could allow the user to select the sound level (as a % perhaps of what is set as default). Pete
  18. And I have a friend who sees flicker at anything below 100Hz. But I tell you that I an many others cannot see any difference once the rate is over about 25Hz (in fact for me even 20Hz). It's part of the variability between visual acuity and perception between folks. Pete
  19. Oh, there's one of those there too? I searched the one in my AppData\Roaming folder. I really do think L-M have made all this rather over-complicated. I assume the one in AppData is for the current user, and the one in ProgramData is for everyone. But not many add-ons offer the choice during installation in any case! Thanks, Pete
  20. That's odd. I searched the Add-Ons CFG for both Orbx and Buildings (separately) with no results. I must have been looking in the wrong place. "Orbx" only found Objectflow 2. Never mind. Now I see it in AddonOrganizer I'm okay, a happy bunny! 😉 Pete
  21. Right. I also found it in the AddOnOrganizer "other addons" tab. It was searching the assorted addons files (XML and CFG) for 'Orbx' which misled me. It's obviously under something else. Thanks, Pete
  22. I don't quite understand this. FTX central (yes, the latest one) shows that "Buildings HD2" is installed, and I have seen the buildings, but although the Add-On.XML for it is certainly there, how does P3D see it? I assume it is referenced elsewhere, but where? Pete
  23. Really? That's not like the other Orbx products I have. And usually for a new XML-added product P3D prompts initially asking if it should be added. I'll have to look in my Add-Ons folder. Thanks, sounds good. Pete
