  1. Hi Oliver, Thanks for getting back to me...the first issue is not a biggy just an inconvenience really, hope it can be fixed all the same! And thanks for verifying the second issue! I have to say...it is great being able to set up my saitek throttles with reverse thrust in a more realistic fashion although I have had to make a small modification to them using rubber bands as an idle detent position thus preventing moving the levers to far...works a charm. Regards Russ.
  2. Hi Oliver, I am using your freeware 'axis and ohs' latest version (1.10 on P3dv5) and have found it very useful thanks. But not sure if this is normal behaviour...when trying to save/over-write a saved template that I have edited a pop-up always asks me to enter a new name for the template...if I enter the same name as the one I want to save/over-write it will ask me 'do I want to over-write the existing template'...should it not just automatically over-write the template I have selected to update? Secondly...when I try to change a control axis (say for example a throttle lever) by double clicking on the box for the existing axis...the dialogue appears as expected but I am unable to select a new axis. I have to delete the existing axis and start the procedure from scratch for that lever! Let me know what you think is going on...ie normal behaviour or possible bug. Keep up the good work... Regards Russ.
  3. Both of these scenery worked fine in P3d v5 (and still work in v4.5) but since doing a clean install with the v5 hotfix my sim stops loading at 5% trying to load a default a/c at CYQQ (even flying towards it, at about 10 miles the sim freezes), and at CYYJ it will take 3+ minutes to get past 5% but then at 74% (creating world-wide weather) the sim also crashes. I have no problems with any other add-on scenery in my collection! Has anyone else come across this problem with these scenery or had a similar problem and if so what is the cure?...I have tried numerous approaches to try and fix this but all I have concluded is that the problem lies with P3d v5 hf1. Regards Russ.

    Farewell FSW

Sad to see the killing off of FSW but hard to compete against billion dollar corporations in the business of killing!!!
  6. You can also click on 'Edit' and select 'Preferences' and then put a tick in 'User Defined' then select the folder path P3D. cheers Russ
  7. Hi Jeff, After starting FSX, go to the menu to open FSUIPC, in 'Button and switches' put a tick in- Select for FS control, in the box 'Control sent when button pressed' select- Throttle (1,2,...) decr. Put a tick in 'Control to repeat while held' and then in the box 'Control sent when button released' select-Throttle (1,2,...) cut. This works well on my Saitek throttles... regards Russ
  8. Hi there... I have the same Mobo and Cpu and I found some good tutorials on youtube specific to the sabertooth...sorry I can't be of more help than that but it was only a few changes and I have 4.5Ghz...haven't bothered to go any further... Good luck!!!
  9. My CS777 serves its purpose...hand flying circuits...and it looks nice doing it too!!! And i'll hold off for the free upgrade to my 747...yeah right!!!
  10. Yeah...really nice pic... If you hadn't said it was CS's 777 I bet you would have had a thousand praises by now!!! Haha regards Russ
  11. G'day I recently upgraded to a Gigabyte GTX770, great card, but I believe, and I stand corrected by the experts...but to get optimum performance from it you will need to upgrade your cpu as well...the logic being that the 2600k is only PCIe rev 2.0 and therefore will only run the GPU at that speed, which, while being backward compatible, will not run the card to its optimum which is PCIe v3.0 (or double the speed of 2.0). regards, Russ.
  12. Just today I tried to activate FSX online and was told i'd reached the limit of activations...had to phone MS (toll free) to get it activated. Despite the inconveniance there wasn't any issue...not surprisingly it sounded like the call centre was in India...I just wonder if they reset the number of activations or whether this is going to be an issue everytime!!! I think I must have done atleast 20+ activations in the last 5 years... cheers Russ
  13. Don't forget that airliners, and particularly the big jets, are flown 'by the numbers' (boring but true). Expected landing weight, temperature and pressure all play a part and thats where the FMC inputs come into their own. The speed tape and flap indicators on the PFD are a good indicator...select your speed and practice maintaining it until the flare using your power levers and pitch (with yoke). As mentioned before, at 20-30ft close levers and gently pull back...careful not to pitch up! regards, Russ
  14. All we need now is another devastating earthquake...this one will bankrupt the country for sure...and insurance will be unattainable!!!
  15. Hows the nerves now...a little shaken again today I believe (6+)...didn't feel a thing in the winterless north!!! regards Russ.
  16. Might very well work!?! One of the best investments in flying I ever made was the purchase of an active noise cancelling headset. Would this make a difference with a hearing aid? I have no idea!!! But I do know that it transformed my african bush flying experience...if I'd known how good they were, I would have bought one years earlier...they are expensive but worth every dollar!!! regards Russ.
  17. Hi David, thanks for your input...My operating system is vista 64 bit and I have all the permissions I need...I think!!!Ok so I understand that basically the file can be called anything you want...and that fs9 traffic bgl's over-ride the fsx bgls...now that I have removed all my WOIA/MAIW bgl's from 'scenery, world, scenery' it would appear that the stock Ai bgl is now been reactivated...only it is not in 'scenery, world, scenery' and does have the 'traffic' in the file name...so my next move was to deactivate all my addon scenery files and low and behold...no stock Ai...now the long process of narrowing it down to the culprit...thanks again!By the way...yes it is a bit more difficult to update the traffic files...but i'd rather have to do that occasionaly with the few airlines worth updating than wait 3-4 minutes every time I want to start the sim...which is a lot more often than I want to do an up-date...cheers for now,Russ.
  18. Maybe this is a simple problem...I have removed all 'Traffic_' bgl's... including FSX's standard traffic bgl, except the boat traffic bgl from the 'Scenery,World, scenery' folder...thats fine except I am still getting stock Ai traffic showing up in the Sim.I do not have any other traffic bgls in any other folder and have done a file search for all files with the word 'traffic' in them and still I have stock Ai showing up in the sim...is it possible for traffic to show up even if it is not prefixed with the name 'traffic' in the filename and if so what could it be named and what size could it be (assuming its the stock Ai traffic file)...so that I could search by file size...And finally if a traffic bgl is compiled using ttools, can aircraft not listed in the 'aircraft_' file still show up the sim? or do you need to delete all the flightplans with an aircraft number even if that aircraft is not in the aircraft list???Would appreciate any help as this is getting rather frustrating...By the way I have used AIFP to open the traffic bgls I have removed to see if the stock Ai aircraft appear in any of the aircraft lists...none of them do!!! (I have consolidated all the WOAI, MAIW traffic files into 11 bgl's...this has halved the time it takes FSX to load)regards, Russ
  19. I don't have much more to add to this thread except to say that I have been having this problem for months and am following this with great interest to see if anyone can come up with a solution thats workable! While my problem is the same, for me it mostly occurrs straight after I do a 'save' of my flight, therefore I have been relatively lucky in that after restarting the sim I have not lost hours of spent time... thank god the fuels free! Here are my specs if anyone can correlate that with the problem,64 bit windows Vista running on Quad core Q9300 @ 2.5 Ghz4 Gig ramNvidia 9800 GTX 512 - latest driver(having tried earlier ones, none have made any difference)FSX sp2 using Dx9UTX, FEX, GEX747X, MD11 and LD767Fingers crossed someone can work this one out!cheers Russ.
  20. Hi Konrad,Yeah like I said to Tim, all the BIOS stuff is way to technical for me, can you read that post and I ask you the same question about the problem I have occasionally with ATC in the sim when flying the 747.For some reason my flight from NZAA to YSSY is not going to happen...when I start the flight from my last save, within minutes it freezes up the Sim. But if I load the default flight but start with the MD11, day time with building thunderstorms (with the high res clouds from FEX looks amazing), it works perfectly, maybe somehow there is a corruption of the saved flight???Any ideas!!!cheers Russ.
  21. Hi Tim,Thanks for that but it all sounds a bit technical for me!Some other strange behaviour I have noticed, and I vaguely remember reading of it somewhere else, is that while flying the 747, at any phase of flight, ATC will call me but no dialogue comes up that I can answer them with, until they cancel the flight plan and then it seems to start working normally again...though having to re-activate the flight plan again. Have you heard of this happening and if so do you know if it was ever resolved. A similar thing has happened with the MD11 whereby I couldn't get any window when pressing the ~ key.Like I said in my first thread I have not had any OOM problems just the disappearing textures, anyway I'll keep at it...my settings are reasonably high I guess but I don't mind a little slow down for a bit of eye candy when doing a circling approach...if you make any further progress in sorting your problem I would be keen to learn how!cheers Russ.
  22. Hi Konrad,Again thanks for the info...I am running Vista x64 + 4GB, I have checked that fsx.exe is capable of using greater than 2 GB and so when the sim freezes and I check the processes in Task Manager it is only about 1.6 GB of memory...I have recently installed SHD clouds for FEX but my problem was happening before that!'tfm' mentions- quote 'I've relaxed the "Performance" level of my RAM from 7 to 10.'- what does this mean and if you read this tmf please tell me how to go about this...I'll try anything!!!I don't fly the stock fsx aircraft but don't expect that would be an issue, I'm still working with it being an UTX problem...will keep trying...cheers Russ.
  23. Hi KonradThanks for the info, I will try diabling night lights and 3d traffic as you suggest. My problem seems to occur at any time, anywhere... at the moment I am flying out of NZAA in the day with the MD11 so does what your suggesting still apply.I have UTX Europe 1.1c and USA 1.3.0a which don't appear to be the most upto date so can you confirm whether these versions are okay. On occassion, which seems to be happening with more regularity, the whole sim is freezing up (no anti V running etc) could there be a conflict going on somewhere? My system is a reasonably new and fast and I have just updated the Video Driver on the GeForce 9800GTX to V178.13.Regards Russ
  24. I've been trying to follow the thread about OOM problems, well lucky for me this has not happened, but there was a post of a similar problem to mine in the thread whereby at various times the cockpit or aircraft textures would disappear until eventually all I had was a black screen but with the sim still functioning in the back ground. No amount of changing between full screen and windowed mode makes any difference but it appears to happen most frequently when I try to save a flight. Restarting the sim reverts back to normal untill I go to save the flight again. This is happening with the 747 and MD11 and if I'm not mistaken begun after installing UTX USA and/or Europe...has anyone been able to confirm if this is the case and if so come up with a solution that doesn't involve un-installing these programs. Both aircraft seem to be functioning normally otherwise!Looking forward to any comments or advice!!!Regards Russ
  25. Thanks for your in-put Yufeng...Q1. is a no brainer, I was interested to hear if the fps I am getting is comparable to other users of pmdg's 747 and if so then I can always reduce my settings to increase fps...if I want to!Q2...I had to have a laugh...having spent the last 10 years flying around Africa and the itcz I am well aware what the risks of flying in bad weather is. My FSX experience is some what different as it seems that clear skies and 50 miles viz shouldn't be up-setting the 747's AP. Sorry I'm not familiar with ASX, what is it and where can I get it...my search was futile! Q3...thanks at least I'm not alone!!!cheers,Russ.
