  1. If I had known that the manuals come as PDFs, I would go with any tablet computer like an iPad and read them on that. I neither had the information nor the iPad at that time, so I went ahead and bought them - since the NG is pretty much the only plane the I will use in FS once it's released. Don't get me wrong, the manuals are nice to have, especially the QRH. But considering the costs... I used USPS to Germany by the way - not too much trouble, fairly quick delivery (about 2-3 weeks?) and no taxes. One benefit of the PDF (this is in no way against PMDG): Boeing has some poor colour choices in some diagrams that translate badly in a black and white print (like blue and red nearly look the same).
  2. I ran into the same problem wanting to use FS2CREW voice commander with a German version of Win7 Pro. However, there seems to be another solution besides upgrading to Win 7 Premium, should be somewhere in the FS2CREW forums.Radarcontact does not use the windows speech engine (at least that is what it looks like) and should run fine on any version of Windows.
  3. The yaw damper indicator is functional - you can see move it in the night takeoff video, if I remember correctly.
  4. +1 for the Thrustmaster Warthog, I find it to be very precise. Every axis is indeed digitized by a hall-effect sensor, even the mini-stick and the slider. Plus, it is obviously makes the DCS:A10c much more enjoyable, if you want to look beyond the civil aviation world. One possible downside: there is no axis (wheel or slider) on the throttle itself (compared to the cougar hotas or others). Another thing I don't like much is that due to the construction of the stick-gimbals (there actually are no gimbals, just a ball and springs) the stick never returns in a straight line to center, but always wants to move in a slightly curvy fashion. I don't notice that while I'm flying, but when checking control surfaces, e.g. the elevators, I always get some deflection of the ailerons as well. But that's really nitpicking. For me, the precision feel while flying really makes this an excellent product.Christoph Kuehne
  5. It is actually just a re-branded version of the free and open-source FlightGear project:Flightgear info on flightprosimChristoph Kuehne
  6. Assuming your camera has some sort of a tripod-mount I would suggest using Superclamps with a Magic Arm (by Manfrotto/Bogen) - obviously only if there is something in the cockpit suitable to fasten the clamp on. This is a very sturdy solution often used to rig cameras to pretty much anything. Some camera equipment suppliers have these items available for rent. I have even seen a film crew using nothing but gaffers tape to put a camera on a strut of a wing outside - that is always the cheap solution - lots of gaffers tape usually gets the job done pretty well.Christoph Kuehne
  7. Hello, since I have not read anything about getting the NGX-manuals to Germany I'd like to share my experience. Despite ordering a couple of days earlier, because of the backorder my package didn't ship until December 15th. I was lucky enough to receive it today (December 23rd). I used the USPS Express Mail International option. Tracking through USPS actually wasn't half bad. Once the package got to Germany I was able to track further progress through the German DHL tracking (using the USPS tracking code or the newly assigned DHL code). It is a little confusing since the parcel went through customs twice: the first time when arriving in Frankfurt, the second time in the customs office responsible for my area (Mainz). So it got shipped from FRA to Saulheim (major DHL base), then to customs in Mainz, back to Saulheim and then finally to my house. There where no charges to be paid (at least I haven't gotten a letter yet). But it has a "customs approved" sticker on it and as far as I'm aware, DHL usually collects any charges during delivery.Concerning the quality of the manuals: I don't know what exactly the advertised "professionally printed" means (I'd say offset press), but they definitely had some problems with ink transfer on some pages as seen in other posts. Some parts are affected, some not at all - I actually don't mind much since everything is perfectly readable. Why Boeing decided to use inverse colors on all the diagrams is beyond me, you get black fingers from all that ink. The packaging is ok but not perfect for a rough ride across the Atlantic Ocean. The manuals shift easily from side to side - one cover page got torn out. Easy to fix though. In one of the binders the rings don't match up so you have to be careful not to tear pages when turning. I'll have to look into that.So what's the bottom line? Overall I'm pleased with my investment (and an investment it is - the total amount paid were 256 Euros). But I think that after the NGX comes out, it will be my main plane to fly in FSX. Since the depth of the simulation seems to match the depth of the manuals I feel it warrants the time spent on reading the manuals. Although I read news on my phone I hate reading long documents on a screen - I have to have a print. In my mind there is no comparison between having an actual QRH in your hand versus just looking at a PDF. So I'm looking forward to spending some holiday evenings going through all this information. One more thing: Since there will be a substantial holdup introduced by customs apparently playing ping pong with the parcel, there is no point in paying for the express handling on the USPS side of things. It might make a difference in the US but once it's on the plane to Frankfurt, is doesn't really matter anymore. Three to five days delivery is just not going to happen (ok maybe five if you're really lucky), even if you take the current difficult weather in Europe and the pre-Christmas rush out of the equation.Anyway, I hope this helps German customers making a more informed decision.Christoph KuehnePS As an aside this is the second set of manuals I bought from PMDG: I also bought and still own the manuals for the Aerowinx PS1 747 sim (about 11/12 years ago?). Quite a difference...
